View Full Version : Car Auctions Are Fun!
I thought I'd visit a car auction last night and find out what they're all about. I was amazed at the bargains you can get there.
Ms Biff wasn't too happy when I got home though, as I got a little over excited and bought a '96 1800 Auto Nissan Primera (boring I know) with 160 thousand K's on the clock for a mere $1400 !!!! I didn't really want it, but hey - it would have been rude not to at that price.
Brand new WOF
6 month rego.
Squeeky clean inside.
Farq knows what I'm going to do with it, but I love bargains!
Anyone after a cheap motor?

"Sold!! To the man blinking in the first row...'
can have some bargains there. The Pajero my bro got stuck after he bought it - sold it on for $7,000 after a month of driving it. Fairly well condition, TD, full leather etc etc. He bought it for $4500. Auctions can be very good. But equally, that's the last resort for crap-heaps too.. Repo sessions are the best. Most of those have been looked after, until Mr Repo man comes to take them away..
Where do these auctions get the cars from? Apart from repos? There were some real shit heaps there, but equally there were some spanking motors as well.

people who are going overseas and need to sell quick. People who need money quick and don't have time for things like TradeMe etc. Garages that get trade-in cars and can't sell them on the forecourt, partners with a grudge, all sorts really..
It's a good place to buy, a bad place to sell. You don't normally get top buck for your truck.. well car or whatever
I don't go to auctions, but I know a lot who do.The thing is to buy what others don't - there may be 3 identical hatches,a red one,a black one and a white one....the white one is mint, the others not so good. The bidding is crazy on the red and black, but the white one is ignored - you buy the white one.Every now and then a really good vehicle won't sell...low reserve and no bids, that's when you pick up a bargin, even if you don't want one of those. The guys who do well in auctions go all the time and just stand and watch....
Just plain Biff now eh? - I had a cat called Biff once, and another called Daisy May...Daisy May and Biff - what's the song quote.

I hate auctions where you're waiting for your spot car, but have a couple of others as 'backup' incase the one or two your wanting go over your price.. then your backup cars come thru first... wank.
