Idle speeds?

I've finally managed to get the ZXR going so I'm chuffed fuckless about that! One problem though, which I think is probably idle speed related, is that it cuts out shortly after starting, the amount of time varies but it's always when I think it's warmed up a bit and want to see if it'll idle without the throttle and/or choke (I'm getting used to the starting finiks of a new bike so experimenting with what works).

I think the problem might be idle speed because I'm thinking it should be idling around 2k ish and, now I think about it, an engine that goes up to 19k would probably have a much higher idle speed. So, any idea what I should be trying to set it to?

I've also got battery problems but I assume that's because I've been turning it over so much with sod all running :o

My Honda CBR600 idles around 1500rpm. I definitely use the choke until it is warm. It would probably stall without the choke when the engine is cold.

mine seems to be fine without choke once it's started but needs revs on, which I thought was a bit wierd. I've never owned an engine with this kind of a rev range before so I've just put it down to an oddity of the engine type rather than a problem though, maybe I'd best look into it a bit more :s

My 250cc engine is also a high rever and my manual states that the idle speed should be 1,500rpm.

I would adjust the idle so that the engine will run smoothly when warm.

Whatever you do just make sure as P.darth has said make sure the bike is warm, also make sure you have got your lights on. My old ZXR was set to around 1800 rpm but with lights off was higher. Set it up to work for you so your not second guessing yourself while on the bike.

well, I've decided to set the idle quite high and then adjust it down rather than having it cut out all the time. I'll do that tomorrow though as I really can't be arsed tonight (and I've got a couple of whisky's under my belt :))
