Anyone own a restaurant, cafe or takeaway booth?

Any size, big or small. A major franchise or a small take away place size equavalent to a sausage sizzle fundraising.

Anyone working in that major? If so I have a serious question.

How did you start? What are the nessesary things that must go through to start? (Tax, government, safety etc...)
Any brief/ detailed explanation of process would be very helpful.

First, you will need some sausages.

Depending on where it is there will be council permits and all that as well.

Go see your council and ask them. When you register for gst, the IRD will plug you into everything else tax-related, such as acc.

Then you will discover everyone else wants to put a finger in your pie, or at least tell you what you can and cannot do. It will be up to you to decide who you will listen to and what you will do.

There's a big difference between a one man operation and running a restaurant/managing staff. What do you want to do, open a sausage sizzle outside Bunnings or a sit down joint on the strip ? My one man operation was making pies funnily enough, but the wife runs an upmarket function centre. Apart from the tax man your local council are going to have the most people sticking their nose in, so that's the best place to start your quest.

Just a partnership or upto 4 people size. Takeaway business similar to the one in Auckland where they sell stuffs from a bus/ trailer in town? You know? But not from a bus/ trailer.
So first start is the local council? I'll look into it.

Nah, just give it to them. And your pants. And underwear. It makes it so much easier to take a giant dump on their 'customer service' counter that way.
