or has this happend to other women?

I've been going along on regular rides with a couple of bunches of riders. By far the majority are males of various vintages. Several times I have had the riders pointedly making reference to their wives when it really wasnt part of the conversation. In one case, one of them felt needful to tell me outright that going out riding was in fact 'not a date'

What the fuck? I am riding with these folk because I like riding in a group and need the onroad time to improve my appalling skill level. NOT i repeat NOT to try and hook up with someone.

I was puzzled as to why they would feel the need to do this. Then I was mortified that I may have been doing something that would make them think I was interested in them rather than the riding. Now Im just plain f****n pissed off.

To the point where I am seriously considering not joining in anymore. FFS, I assume they are there to ride, what the hell makes them think they are so f****n attractive that I would be distracted from my desire to ride and overcome with desire for them?

Is it just that my startling resemblance to a old knobbly spud is so marked that they feel the need to say 'gross, I find you unattractive" Again that would come back to them having the unbelievable attitude that they are so attractive that I would fling myself at them. er...not even

Is this a common reaction from males toward us homely females? Can I assume the pretty ones don't get this type of reaction? Or is it just that they can't believe that a mature woman would be so keen on riding that she would actually be keen on riding?

What do you think is going on?
anyway, I feel better for having had a rant. Off to work.

You said you ride out with males mainly. That makes you a minority, minorities always get picked on. If you had more females in the group I'm sure you wouldn't get those comments. I'm sure it'd happen to a guy riding with a group of chicks

Ratti dont let it get to you. have a rant and go for a ride :)

Hi Ratti, there could be several answers to this:

Guys feel overawed by single chicks on bikes - need to set the boundaries early
they have been following your cougars thread (no disrespect intended)

i have ridden with lots of guys - they all very well behaved. Their partners always come into the conversation. Why not? they are a part of their lives. I am sure its not a mechanism to let anyone know they are not interested.

dont give up on the rides, but get into some girlie rides (i know you been trying to organise them). Much more fun, no competitiveness, and lots of great gossip at the end.

aaah, yes the cougar thread... it is way disprespectful that thread! *giggle*

I can see that partners would be a normal part of conversation sometimes, but the one who felt the need to point out 'this is not a date' ???? WTF was that about?

Womens rides rock! Pootled up to Paraparaumu on SUnday morning. Had coffee and breakfast at Maccas with a great lady and am keen to do so again. In the absence of that type of ride tho, I'm stuck with male dominated rides. I'm going to start wearing the promise ring my husband gave me. Flash it around and it should stop any such discussions happening. Maybe? hope so anyway.

I have had this happen, not so much with group rides, I dont' do groups, but in other social areas. I have always believed their reasoning behind mentioning the wife and kids is not so much to put me off but more to remind themselves that they are married as they attracted to me..
....could be you just way too hot and they need cooling down with a reality check.

As to the this is not a date, maybe he is trying to flatter himself that you find him attractive. They are just boys on the inside and when left to their own devices they, well, they really struggle with the whole communication thing! dont' take it to heart, just ride better than they do.

Is it worth getting a ladies ride group together - working with your local Motorcycle Shop? (Assuming their isn't already local lady groups)

My local - Bayride (ROCKS!) who tend to get involved in the community with different events anyway, run a pretty good ladies group that was featured in the latest BRM, there's a thread in here I believe?

Hey Ratti.

Sorry to hear about this. I truely hope it doesn't put you off the group rides, as I was hoping to see you at tomorrow ride out to the coast. It's a lovely ride, and a pretty supportive group.

It seems that a few men may mean this in different ways. I know that a lot of guys I have met on these ride have mentioned their parters and families, but in a very loving way, and how much they appreciate the fact that they let them have some time out to go riding.

Don't let the comment get you down. The rides should be about the riding - that's exactly why I go as I just can't seem to get enough of being on my bike. And I get a real buzz riding in a group of people, who are there for the same reason.

Pleased you had a good ride on Sunday - sorry I couldn't make it, will try harder next time.

So, see you tomorrow hopefully? Me and Christy will be there to talk to and keep you saine :)

Hahaha this made me laugh at a memory...

my first ride ever on a bike was on the back of a harley that was taking "kids" for a ride around the block at a local event (only last year). I stood in line, payed my $2.00 and the kind man took me for a hell of a spin down the highway. Half hour later we returned. His long grey pony tail was flicking in my face, I was holding on tightly to his lovehandles, then he moved my hands up to his "moobs" for a more secure grip.

Ahhh he thought it was so funny. Well, actually it was. Lovely chap really, and thats the day I decided I wanted to ride motorcycles. All thanks to him and his moobs!

Usually 'don't flatter yourself!' works.... Or, 'Today, I'm just here for the bike riding'... 'If I wanted to jump your bones, you'd know about it, but it's not your lucky day'... or, just simply, 'I think you're confused!' and then steer clear of them.

If I was out riding with a group of fulla's, I think I'd simply ignore comments like that. I'd be wanting to concentrate on the ride and having fun, not on getting irritated by 'sexual dynamics' and ego's. Learn to let it go. Shrug it off. Learn to laugh at stuff like that...

Don't sell yourself short either, Ratti. Have a good look around and supermodels are few and far between. Most of us, yes, men included, are rather ordinary looking folk and don't rate ourselves too high in the glamour stakes. Usually all we need is a wee bit of fettling, a touch of lippy for the ladies, and a smile that lets our personality come through and we're attractive.

Speaking as a man, I am drawn to women who have that "something" in their face that tells one they are a nice person. Otherwise they are no more than a pretty picture to look at. It 's something that took many years for my wife to understand. She still thinks she's ugly and I used to point out the fact that all the men she met liked her for some reason, and of course I reckon she's a rather long way from ugly, too... She couldn't understand that I didn't want to jump into bed with every prety girl I saw, and I guess it is a stereotype of men, and may certainly be true of some men, that women are merely sex objects.

In the case of your OP, I do think that he was simply speaking without thinking, something people have a tendency to do and I would pass it off as of no consquence. Everyone who knows you through KB thinks you're okay.

I wish I knew how to multi quote on one post.

Let me see if I have distilled the basic thoughts from y'all.
- It's all in my head
- it's not in my head, there is something going on with these guys
- they fancy me and are trying to attract my attention
- they don't fancy me and want to set boundaries
- they think I'm a player
- they are players and want to let me know
- they treasure their partners and just want to talk about how wonderful s/he is
- it's just what men do

What did I miss?
Seems I should just bail up the men who did it and ask to clarify. Short words, Simple sentences, bullet points.

Of course it's ok to talk about your wife..but it should just be a natural part of the flow of conversation, not out of the blue. That's what weirded me out about the situations I am writing about.

I doubt it would have been the cougar thread as one of the groups I go out with is nothing to do with KB.

Still has been an interesting read. Thanks for all the input. Has given me some things to mull over.

Eyegasm dear, have you had the same unfortunate experience? Yes dear, I'm sure all the Tuesday crowd will agree that you are attractive.

...and what on earth is wrong with meeting a woman riding a bike and then mentioning that your wife rides a bike too....seems an obvious thing to say...with no double meaning or innuendo that i can think of.....have i missed something here??....

Entirely appropriate that you should mention it in that circumstance. But that is not the conversations I'm writing about. Yes you are missing something, but most likely because you are one of the many riders who do not do what I am querying. Just ignore this thread, it's obviously not applying to you.

I agree with you, but I think the bit you missed was where the guy pointedly said "This is not a date!"

I certainly don't take guys that come up to me and say their wife rides, as a warning... but, merely as saying we have something in common to talk about. It's still thought of as fairly 'out there' for a chick to ride, even though there are getting more and more of us.

So fulla's, don't be put off talking about your wife riding to us! We'll probably ask what she rides and does she want to come out on our next ladies ride or want her cellphone number.

Heck yes! You know, 25 years ago I was used to being the only woman I knew who rode. I'm really suprised that it is still sufficiently odd that folk need to comment on it. I am so happy that there are regular postors here that happen to be women.

Why is it that when one plonker steps out of line, every other male is tarred with the same brush.

I have been going on group rides for a number of years with both male and female riders. I have mentioned my wife and family during conversation and have never assumed that some pretty face talking to me was in any way interested in me rather than the ride. (except Quazi of course who does have the hots for me:lol:.... Hi Carla, how ya doing. Haven't seen you for a while).

I learned to ride on my Mum's BSA Bantam. When I bought my T500 she used to borrow it to go and visit her Mum, (Grandma, to state the obvious...), in Tauranga! We lived in Warkworth then and she loved the ride and the power... She's 78 now, and would probably still ride a Bantam if she could find one. I know where her old one is but the lady won't part with it.

Sorry to hear this Ratti, hopefully it wasn't on a Tuesday ride as most of the regulars seem quite nice and friendly.

Hey wait a minute - I chatted to Ratti on the last Tuesday ride - It wasn't me was it?

I was just glad to have someone to natter to.

But, if I was one of the offending males (can't remember if I mentioned the missus or not) then I have a damn good excuse: She hides bugs in my clothes and tells me off if I don't talk about her in every conversation I have.

Hehe, she can only hear the keyboard clacking right now - damn her bugs!

He came over to talk to me and one of the first things he said ti me was "My wife rides a Ducati"
WTF??
Get over it, he was obviously just very proud of her. Hey, my wife (to be) races an ex Isle of Man 600cc sidecar im proud too, dont be so goddam precious.

I have had this happen, not so much with group rides, I dont' do groups, but in other social areas. I have always believed their reasoning behind mentioning the wife and kids is not so much to put me off but more to remind themselves that they are married as they attracted to me..
....could be you just way too hot and they need cooling down with a reality check.

.
Oy would agree with the first bit not having met you. Maybe just guys trying to put woman + motorbike together & using a little positive affirmation with their familys as a starting point. I'm not really a social rider but always tickled when i do meet a woman on a bike, quickly followed by the confusion of social etiquette between women & men. I don't really feel comfortable saying " F**K!! that last bit of road was mint!" I would feel like a total knob acting like that in front of a woman I hardly knew whether I fancied her or not, married or not.
It's probably an understanding thing, not a communication thing, I think, maybe or perhaps. Then again.
I did meet a Canadian lady recently who has a 1098 at home, phwooar! Instant feelings of inadequacy.

Firstly I haven't read every single post cos my lunch break is nearly over so apologies if this has already been asked and answered...but I'm curious.

What did you say in response to the plonker who pointedly told you that 'its not a date' ???

My thoughts on that are that he has a pretty high opinion of himself!

Geez I have never encountered anything like it, in fact I have been on heaps of rides where the men conveniently forget that they have a partner. And I can tell ya that it sucks just as much, you feel really dumb being hit on by a seemingly nice guy only to have one of the other people on the ride tell ya later that 'Mr X' is married...grrr!

Maybe these guys you have been riding with have very possesive partners who have instructed them to make their marital/relationship status crystal clear to any single female??? Sure its natural to talk about your partner but to do so in a manner that makes another person feel like they have overstepped the mark is unnecessary.

If that ever happened to me I would ask the guy where on earth he got the crazy idea from that I was even remotely interested????

Thanks goldgal. The tuesday learners group ride last night was great, 4 women turned up, we almost outnumbered the chaps. Was funny tho cos a couple of the guys were really worried and had the 'was it me?' "nah it was you wasnt it mate" 'Nah I reckon it was....." conversation.

I will hold back the "you listen when men speak?" comments ; )
"I've got a wife" = "do you share?" or "mine's hotter than yours" (disclaimer: only funny coming from a woman guys)
"This is not a date" = "Come to think of it you Do remind me of a dried up fruit" or "bugger, my rash has just cleared up and I am ready to go"

Don't take anyone seriously unless they have vital organs you need, or they know your PIN number....

or has this happend to other women?

Ok i'm a little lost here. What's the fuss about? It doesn't sound like anyone was hitting on anyone and it doesn't sound like the "not a date " statement had much merit either. So what are we discussing this for again?

Can't say I've ever experienced that - but have had trouble with the men accepting that I can ride better than the majority of them, and would be in top 3-4 in our group, on occassion even leading the rides. Some guys just can't handle a chick in front

Those who can't handle the jandal, no longer ride in our group - shows the weaker sex (ha ha he he he)
But the big question is - do you finish before they guy has got started?
Apparently being quick is not a good thing

14th April 2010, 10:27
or has this happend to other women?

Well Ratti, 127 replies later......"is it only you".....What do you reckon now?

While I have had a bit of a rant over a post from a particular female rider (who shall remain nameless), I agree with Tart. There are plenty of us Males out there who just want to ride for the enjoyment of it, just like you. As I used to be a local in that area, why would it be a surprise if the publican knew my name? And as for drinking and riding - I see no harm in 1 drink during a ride. Truth be told she cant ride for shit. Yes, she can ride fast in a straight line (mmm nothing to do with the bike???), but on the corners all she does is hold us up because she can’t hold a line. Hell, I used to ride past her on the corners two up but now cant be bothered riding with this arrogant destructive person who has such a low self esteem she has to tell the whole world how good she is. Unbelievable!!!!!

This is such a rich comment from someone who has ridden with me only on two occassions - and someone who also made reference on this post in relation to not riding fast - and who has been reckless with their wife on the back too! I can corner as quick as the guys and this post was not about how fast or slow people ride, but why arrogant men like yourselves feel women should be on the back and not in the front of a group.

I have done many rides where I have not wanted to ride fast - and to hell with you lot who spout off that I cannot ride well, as that just confirms Ratti's post that men have attitudes where women riding are concerned. And you all need to check your man-hood, and cannot handle it - so lets just post up that she is useless and can't ride for shit !!

... just confirms Ratti's post that men have attitudes where women riding are concerned. ...

Quite the contrary. Ratti's post that started this thread is about men's attitudes to women who ride - in the sense that women riders are often viewed as 'easy'. You know - up for it...go off like a rocket...enjoy making the beast with 2 backs...will fuck anything in trousers.
Her post had nothing to do with attitudes towards riding itself. Either men's or women's.
Nobody cares if you're fast, slow or in between. But everyone is sick of hearing from you about how fast you are. And how there's so few for you to ride with.
And yet, every time someone 'challenges' you to do a trackday or somesuch, you have a reason (which is seen as an excuse) why you can't.
Most of us don't want to say anything to (really) upset you, but we've had enough. We're telling you - we don't want to hear it anymore.

And this is precisely why CH is finding a diminishing group to ride with. It's got nothing to do with her (self-proclaimed godlike) speed. Most of the 'fast' riders I know can and do leave her for dead (even on bikes with half the power of the GSXR thou). But those riders also know it's not a competition on the road, so they take it to the track these days. Where they find that egos ALSO have no place.

I reckon there is still a lot of male/female competition to be sorted yet. SOME men who are not comfortable with having women on bikes, SOME women who need to prove themselves against men. Just goes to show how caught up in the bloody mindless gender game SOME folk still are. I'd suggest getting over it and just doing what you like to do cos you like to do it.

Nothing like it indeed, a warm body between your knees, thrill of a being with a better rider than me
But its that trust thing that is so hard to find. There are so many who claim this and that, but the riders I would pillion with are few and far between. In fact I only know of one and he is a quiet type you would never notice in a crowd. But widely acknowledged in his circle as the best rider in the bunch.

However whats with this getting personal stuff , do you guys all PM each other to come and have a go at Crazyhorse. Having an opinion about riding and speed etc is all very well but this stuff is taking it to a very personal level on a public forum ,
Calling someone arrogant , destructive , low self esteem etc , and using the term Nag is just childish name calling.

Very disappointing

I am quite disappointed , any of you are welcome take me to task , but face to face .

Show me where I got personal, Dave?

No, I was not PM'ed to 'have a go' at her, nor was Mstrs. I can't speak for anyone else. She brought it on herself with her attitude.
I stand by what I said, and if necessary I would repeat it.

Fair comment ,now I go back and have a read , I will apologize, it just seemed to me that there was a bit of ganging up going on ( this thread was linked in from the Hawkes Bay page not PM'd but same effect ), and Stormy's post in particular I found quite offensive towards another in a public forum and I think Stormy is a decent likeable person as is Crazyhorse and most others who ride in hawkes bay, some are just more boisterous than others . I still think there is no need for attacks on peoples character , have a go at behavior if warranted NOT , who they are.

This post ( and the next few pages after) sum up the crap that the Nag bought into the HB rides scene, it ended up getting the HB rides thread put into PD and rides orginised by txt....... guess who wasnt on the txt list

Its a shame the Nag cant cant get put into PD too, good place for the general " Me Me Me " posts she does

And Jase there was no need for this mate , Just adding fuel to an already inflamed situation for no practical purpose other than getting another kick in.

I,m with Morepower ( in every sense) Dave on this one. Tough day at the office and all that ...jump on KB for some enlightened mumble and Whammo! this shit, now I'm so fucking depressed I might go and buy one of those Korean Higho sungs...maybe even splash out and get the GT RR and so on 250 model .That might just make me more more depressed than reading the above ramblings. I tell you what if anybody on this site thinks they have it bad...I mean really bad !! ......they want to meet the #@*&%'s ( words that are suitably descriptive enough haven't been invented yet) that I have to ride with. Some days I wonder why the hell I do it ? Anyway you catch my drift, keep it light team there is a lot of fun to be had out there and I would hate to see anyone miss it cause there heads are there arses.

Dave,

I am posting this not PMing you just to keep things out in the open. Yes you have taken umbridge to my personal comment, that is your perogative, but if you think about it all that has happnd is that CH's arrogant post (#110) was the straw that broke a lot of camels backs! One post to many on how great she is and how men cant handle etc etc etc (the reference to "if you cant handle the jandal" type thing just got up my goat). CH isnt a bad rider, but she isnt great. She can ride fast but she does struggle in the twisty bits, running wide, cant keep an even line or pace etc so she needs to eat a bit of humble pie and stop trying to tell the world how great she is.

Prehaps it is a man thing, but if a bloke kept proclaiming to the world how great a rider he was, then everyone would soon get sick of it and start thinking what a wanker he was. Does CH want to be treated differently?

No doubt we will have a chnce to catch up with each other on the road some time and have a chat.

Cheers

Good on you for playing the 'peacemaker'. We would all like to just get on with each other, on and off the forum/road/track/whatever. My response to post #110 MAY have been a little strong, but it said what I've been thinking for a long time. It dealt with her attitude (on here, anyway, since I've only ridden with her once many years ago). Have a squizz at my post #141...it should show that no malice is intended.

KB'rs???

what I see happening is like what happens in my chook run from time to time.
There is a group that feels the need to know where they are in the pecking order. So away they go flapping, pecking and generally asserting themselves. Meanwhile the other chooks are quietly eating bugs and getting on with their chooky lives. While the squabble may catch the attention of the other birds for a time, they quickly loose interest and let the wee bantys get on with sorting themselves out.

I see the factions developing here and in other threads. I suggest not letting it bother you if you are so inclined, but dive on in if you are of the type that needs it. All sorts of interesting things happening in the chook house!

p.s I have a degree in psych and education, can you tell? lol

I have to agree with you on this one. Perhaps there is some truth as to female bikers being treated diferently (isnt that what this thread started life as?)
From my experiances of riding with you guys (yes i know i havnt been out on the road for ages) and reading posts on this site - I have to conclude that female bikers are treated differently, If a bloke had started turning up on rides and had her attitude and was posting the sort of drivel that we have all seen on this site, he would have been told what to do in just two words by any number of us. CH is enjoying quite easy treatment by comparison.

Just my opinion.

There's being told to fuck off and then there's character assination....I think being told to fuck off is far more 'easy treatment' than what seems to be going on in many festering little pooh pockets on KB at the moment.

Most of the guys who are cocks just get told to fuck off and are then basically ignored females in the same position are hounded and end up having their whole character and values systems judged and comments about their 'worthiness or lack there of' thrown about, much is assumed, over analysed and dramatised.

:sherlock: If we don't like someone can we not just choose to ignore them? All these bloody online shit fights just look like stupid schoolkid scuffles for domination in the playground with a few more naughty words thrown in. :calm:

Tell you what tho, it is way cool fanging it past other bikes on a scoot.:bye: he will comfortably do 140 in a straight line. have to slow down to 100-120 for gentle corners. Then on the twistys he falls apart and handles like the scoot he really is.:scooter: O well, a scoot with the heart of a stalliion- or is that a cougar?

Its a fun ride within the limits of the bike and that is all I need really. Looks like my hubbys sons have backed off a tad and are not going to go after my zeds. So I may well have a rebuilt zed back on the road in time for summer. :soon:fingers crossed for me folks!
