I'll probably sit this one out, I need some more time for the screw holes to fill in so ok for Easter.

Geriatric
17th March 2010, 11:35
Was hoping to make this one (would have my first race since November last) and then Easter, but finally got the bucket going with new piston and rings, took it out to run it in, blew a hole in the piston and seized the bottom end!!
Have managed to find a new bottom end for a frantic rebuild before Easter, but will probably be pushing my luck.
All going well I will turn up on Sunday to wave a flag though.

Hi

Clearly you have a timing issue if it blew a hole in the piston, that's detonation. Best to throw another rod in it, old cranks that have been sitting around always tend to fail when asked to make a race engine. The B/E bearing surface gets some rust pitting & it's on borrowed time.

100% of $0 = $0

But that is value for money when you get to see some quality racing.

Yeah I know, and the buckets are racing too... Did I say that out loud?

Seriously, anyone who hasn't been for a look, should. It's great racing, more interesting machinery than an A an P show and you get to see all the track from on high.

F*ck me. I was just outside prepping my bike for buckets on Sunday and found something DAMN interesting. My throttle cable adjuster has been broken for quite some time but I thought it wasn't too much of an issue seeing as the throttle still worked. BUT...... I have only been able to use 4/5 throttle for the last I don't know how many rounds. I wonder if that's been a reason why my bike is so damn frickin slow. AAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHH!!! All fixed now and possibly picking up a new carb tomorrow.

Ouchie.... New forks, preferably a new triple tree (but can probably get away with what I have got - just needa take a mallet to it), new left side rear set and gear shifter shaft. 2 weeks to get it sorted so I can be back for Easter. I'm gutted as about the crash but hey.... that's racing right? Hope you all enjoyed the rest of your day, I love it when Kaitoke is dry!

Loads of fun today, was nice to have a couple of riders today that I could keep up with and chase. Shame about the crash Hamish, hope you're feeling ok and get it sorted before Easter. Mint weather, mint track, mint company. Cya all in a couple of weeks when we (well you guys) give the out-of-towners the learn! :D

Excellente Trudes. That's why I asked at Taumarunui - just the not having anyone to chase I think looks lonely. You've got more guts in doing that than someone riding mid-pack and I totally admire you for that :)

Did Murphy come off today (his post is cryptic, trying to work out if it was previous damage or from today). I take it that it was dry today (make sure someone books good weather for the Easter event) :)

Thanks luv.... it can get a bit lonely when the only time you see others on the track is when they're lapping you at a zillion miles an hour or you're trying to avoid running over them as they have a little lie down on the track, but it's all good, one day I'll get fast and kick some butt!! (Pity is I'll probably be too bloody old to ride by then! :D)
Yep, poor Hamish had himself quite a crash, but he should be right for Easter..... so will his bike hopefully.

Just uploading some footage from the day will be about half an hour. Great days riding, revers track is a bit more challenging with the downhill section balls out in 6th. Or should I say really fricken scary. Yeh Hamish had a big off, front row seat for that one. He was riding like a man possessed.

Hi all I had a great day. Good track condition and some good battles. It was not good to see Hamish out so soon but good to see him moving about OK. There will be some footage of the damage. Brock had some major problems with the incorrectly assembled Loncin [not by him] luckily the senior Loncin teh man was willing and able to assist well done Fishy. Tex Richard Fishy and I had some good hot laps with some stagged starts. Thanks to all the helpers and flagies. It was a good learning day as we havent rider in that direction for a while. Hope the weather holds for Easter.
Thanks for the footage richard.

That's stunning footage, makes me sympathetic towards the B graders having us A's come past at silly speeds. Andrew you're a maniac.

Even the bright yellow "noob" vest doesn't make you less of a target it seems! The poor guy was sitting just in front of me when he got a little distracted by maniacs hurtling past at some point, forgot to corner at the end of the straight and ended up going straight instead of cornering, luckily there were some bails to ride into and he managed to stay on and rejoin the race, big ups to him for that! Talk about throwing him in at the deep end, still, he seemed to enjoy his day at least.

I could not stop laughing all morning it still brings a smile to dail as I am writing this. You are mental plus plus. Now I am thinking how do I block that line. This season is shaping up nice. Already had the best 2 crashes in ages, and now the best pass. What next? Bring on Easter.

hmurphy
22nd March 2010, 12:28
Yeah Easter..... I have 2 new forks already but I need to straighten them haha. They were cheap because they are bent but are stock FXR forks. One is reasonably well creased, the other has no creases. Will be interesting. Once I get that sorted, I'm going to try that passing move that Andrew showed off haha

The sooner we get back to A and B split races the better.
It's not fun having bikes passing at considerably faster speeds like that, makes it difficult to ride your own ride.

Yea I do feel for him and the rest of the B grade riders having to put up with us loopy bastard's that ride to fast but thats the breaks at the mo we need at lest 6 in each class before the kart guys will let us split into two groups. I for one try and give you guys some space and other times maybe not enough

hmurphy
22nd March 2010, 21:25
Perhaps introduce a casual rule that A graders are not to use the lap traffic as an opportunity to pass the guy in front? That way whoever is 1st in the race and meets the lap traffic wont have to worry about passing as fast as they can to keep their spot and so on. However this won't work for people who are trying to make up as much ground as possible to catch the front group, but it might make it a bit safer and more fun for the B graders and also reduce the closeness or risk taking of A graders around B graders. In other words, the first one through the lap traffic can take their time because they aren't allowed to get passed. I understand this might only work in a couple situations but it might be better than nothing? Also allows for anyone who gets slowed up by lap traffic to catch up. - OPEN TO CRITICISM ON THIS!!!

I am sure we have all been there at some point. I know I have. Just made me want to go faster. It still happens, you think you are going fast and someone sticks a move like you are standing still. Sketchy loves scaring the shit out of me. I would rather A and B were separate. For safety reasons and I like watching the racing. I had a chat with the young man and he is as keen as. He is amped for more and wants to spread the word to his mates.

Like some of the others have said, A and B grade will be split for points races (providing at least 5 or 6 from each grade turn up) so hopefully it won't be too much of an issue soon.
I know everyone just wants to get their jollies, which is cool, so do I, as long as it doesn't involve knocking someone else off in the haste to get around (especially those of us who are still trying to learn and are nervous about being wiped out). Like you were saying to me Rich, you often give your bike an extra rev so I know you're there and then you pick your time to pass, and you and Tex are probably the only ones who have never put the shits up me when passing.
Anyway, like I say, hopefully it'll be a non-issue soon.

Couple of vids from the weekend.
The first is Hamish explaining what went wrong. The sound is'nt great but you get the idea and a quick look at the bank he got friendly with.

The other should be good for out of towners to check out the track and me letting the 4strokes thru.

Father like son indeed!! Not sure how many other people got to see it, but Mr Adlam snr treated us to a beaut 3 gear wheel stand off the starting line on Sunday!! We were flagging in station number one and got a great view.

That man was on fire on Sunday. Wonder what he has for breakfast?!? I might get a box...
