To the rider on the jap cruiser type bike waiting to turn right on to Linton street from ferguson st today @ 245ish...

Do not look directly at me while I am no more than ten meters away (and closing @ 50ks) and then proceed to execute the turn anyway (from a standstill).

You were damn lucky that I have pretty good awareness and managed to hit the brakes, but even so I was driving a 2 tonne people mover with all the kids onboard and it takes a fair bit to get the beast stopped, especially at that speed/distance, and to look at me like I was in the wrong:angry: I would hate for my kids to see the mess it would have made.

Next time I will not be wasting my reaction times and brake/tyre wear on you, I will just hit ya.....maybe that will knock so sense into you.....fucking fool

End Rant

Easy to think after the event of what you should have done.
Two months ago at Te Hauke on SH2 I was driving to Wellington when a chap on a Harley turned across in front of me to go up Colin White Road. He was wearing tee shirt, jeans and no helmet. I was doing 100kph when I hit the brake. He was lucky I was driving a Mazda 3 which has excellent brakes and that I was awake. The ABS was fully working and horn was continuous - for effect. Sadly I don't think he knew how close he came to meeting his maker. BTW there was a funeral just back up SH2 which I guess he had attended and probably had one too many.

Nope, that is normal driving for Te Hauke.

The Jap Cruiser would have made a nasty mess of your front end and probably ruined your day.

Glad it worked out OK.

Loads of idiots out there giving us all a bad name.

we had a school bus pull out in front of us on a 100k road today. was on the side of the road just before the bulls bridge on the ohakea side... had obviously stopped to unload kids, and then decided it was fine to nearly cause nose to tail accident... thank god the vehicle behind us was way behind.

I'm on the road most days in Palmy, and I reckon the driving standards are getting worse lately. I've had so many near misses .
Napier road seems to have a speed limit of 80.
Red lights mean speed up and get through etc.
I want to go back to the South Island!!

yeh i've had a few close-ish runs lately, basically people missjudging distance to the bike, though i'm sure most figure it out and refuse to look my way. Most time I just shake my head and keep going, dont often hit the horn as im hard on the brakes.

I don't know why the fuck that any numpty driving like a total wanker (and stopped by the cops) don't have to sit another test. Would keep a few more examiners in a job and you never know, might have the desired effect.

Heaps of shorts and t-shirt wearing wankers out on the road right now, thanks to summer. Hopefully winter will see these fuckwits retire their bikes and bring out their cars.

I think palmy has got worse due to loads of students back etc....It is funny that everytime you think "I should hit him to teach a lesson" you natural reaction is to brake and avoid.....damn my amazing natural reflexes ha

You mean the increase in traffic volume I'm guessing, personally hadn't noticed any with massey students, more noticed all the horrible people movers out to pick up school children. But your reaction should be I should get real close to scare the shit out of him to teach him a lesson, I know one lady that will look both ways when crossing the street from now on :shifty:

Lucky I try not to be on the road at school times since the kids are a bit young, I have noticed heaps of younger riders about especially scooters.....take a second look out there people...

I think palmy must be like that !

Was only the other day i was riding through there en route to a destination i'd rather not disclose !

Another story perhaps as i know most of you would find it hysterical !

I would !

Well anyway here i was riding through palmerston !

North that is, crikey heaven help me if i was riding through Palmerston Otago haha, i'd say it would be feeling rather cold there about now !

The last few years have been mild but the cold does play havoc with the old joints !

Can't for the life of me remember the name of the road i was on !

(In Palmerston north this is) But there i was cruising along minding my own business as i do !

Have learnt that if you don't, things can come back and bite you !

So i seen this other bike approaching, thankfully i saw him early cause the way my eyes have been playing up lately bwahahaha

It is getting to be rather serious of late though i must conceed !

The eyesight i'm referring to here, though the state of the riding seems to be also !

But anyway this pratt was closing in on me rather rapidly !

Perhaps not speeding, though it did seem so at the time !

I hope he was speeding, because the number of speed cameras around now, he was sure to have been snapped !

Not for what he did to me, but the camera may have caught him speeding (Snigger)

So there he/she was, basically next to me, but the other side of the road !

I am in no way saying this rider was in the same lane, ooohhh no, he/she was in their correct lane thankfully !

I say He/she because at the time i couldnt distinquish, what with a tinted visor and full leathers !

Not to mention the eyesight !

So there i was white cane waving hahaha

Nooo i jest, lol my eyesight is not so bad that i should need a white cane !

Or another eye test :shit:

But i think i might have mentioned, i was riding along minding my own business !

I do that !

Forget things !

Well fuck his eyes !

No there's a worry !

Must stop saying that, it appears Khama is sending me a warning !

The eyes, you know what i mean ?

But DAMN him !!!

The fucker Waved !!!!!

Still, it would have been easy to give way from 20km/h, right?

Just sayin' is all not sure if all the kids will fit (legally) on the bike, so i have to be able to get them round some how, that aside I think you will find it can often involve people movers etc , mainly because some bikers get the mentallity of "I can make that gap, its just a people mover/suv/truck/anything slower than my amazing super fast pretty much race bike and I am pretty much just as good a rider as rossi so I will hit that gap" but by the time this has run through their head and they start to move the gap has closed and they dont then stop to think " hey its a 2 tonne people mover that could wipe me of the face of the fucking earth, maybe I should wait 2 seconds and go once it has gone past, considering that there is no other traffic behind it" ..........

nah I think you will find I drive with the hazards on and the kids stopped making too much noise after the last beating......couldnt possiably be anything to do with the biker making a bad call.....cause we know all bikers are perfect.......

Hmmm, if only, the 20 kmph rule when passing a school bus from EITHER direction would be THE most ignored road rule we have. If you do slow down to 20 kmph on the open road - almost guaranteed that you will hear a squeal of brakes behind you and cop some abuse. Especially true if the bus is unloading on the opposite side of the road. Do people not know or not care?

third option, people disagree, why slow down to 20kmhr if you can see that no children are gonna run out in front of you?

Palmy traffic is a blast! it lets you know your still alive after each battle to get to and from home. I justifies getting suited up with all the armour I can find!
The number of close calls I have crack me up! Its like surviving fatal dodge ball and make me feel like ripping the finger and yelling out 'HAHA ya missed me f@#ker!!"
The main offenders apart from the lane splitting wheelstanding triumph clowns are the Courier vans and People Movers. Most other people seem to see the bike or the gear or the Handsome hero risking his life once again and slow down to admire the show passing them by!

You're bang on about the Red lights thing - I see it every day and it's amazing how often you're sitting on a green waiting for these tossers to continue across ya bows.

Re the South Island: I had 2 big scares with cars coming around the corner on my side of the road. They just had to pass even though they couldn't see around the corner - insane!
