Last night night I managed to get along to the second part of the South Auckland Street Skills.
The second part was at the Council carpark in Manukau City.
There was a couple taking the course (in their own time).
We did some slow speed exercises with the whole group under lights in the carpark.
We even had a slow race! First one to the finish line loses.
Should see the old guy on his Harley if only I was half as good as him!
Lots of great practice.
It was great ,no one was laughing at anyone. No one was judging any one or their bikes.
We were givien a lot of safety information when we sat done and had a general discussion afterwards.
Just a group of people with a common interest learning and talking about experiences on bikes.
Or lack off like me.
We had people attend from as far away as Mt Albert!
I strongly suggest that if you would like to brush up your skills or you are a complete learner like me or on the other hand if you feel you have some knowledge to pass on.
Please get you arse to one of the sessions even if you cannot manage the whole night every week.
Dam this should be compulsary

Hi ya Darryl, well done, sounds like just the thing. we have things like that here but due to my committment as mother I'm unable to do things like that. They had one on a couple of weekends ago on a Saturday but I had to work. Buggar. Glad to see you are getting out there and learning heaps.

Are the trainers and the bikes tiny weeny?
I'm just wondering how you get them into a bottle. I'm sure you'll find more options out of your bottle. :)

well, being the Magic Genie that I am my bottle is rather accomodating to the general public, it has roads and hills, rivers and lakes, and cars and trucks and things that go brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr...oops that was the phone ringing.
Life in the botte is beautiful, bit like rose coloured glasses only more 'real'. Only down side is the smell of diesel fumes, smoke, sewage and of course bloody idiots who have no consideration for the humble motorcyclist coming down the road. You know the ones, the ones that pull out in front of you! The ones that make your heart leap and your blood to rush....sounds like love!

As a former flamer of Tryhard, and after actually meeting him, I can attest that he's not the dickhead I thought he was. He's got the gear, the gumption and is keen to learn, just like the rest of us.
Last night's training was good (super-slow stuff is harder than I thought) and yeah, Howard and Jayne are great riders.
Hope to see y'all again next Wednesday.

I agree, the super slow stuff is where the skill is at....I'd like to give the trial riding ago just to enhance the skill level

Good on ya Tryhard.

Damn I wish there was something like SASS or NASS down here in the Bay of Plenty! Sounds like the best way possible to learn the business of motorcycling. And to meet some good people!

Finally made it to meeting point after much talking about going and not betting there. A big thanks to the instructors making it a good 1st night ride after my off. It was a great night and I am looking forward to next week.

Scorp, I've done the ROADSAFE program organised by ACC here in Tauranga a couple of weeks ago. The most important thing I learnt was how to turn at low speed such as roundabouts and u-turns. You lean the bike into the corner but lean your upper body out of the corner to keep your centre of gravity closer to being above the tyre contact patches.
I'd recommend that all leareners or restricted riders phone ACC and ask when such a course will be held in their area, increased interest will surely mean more of these courses are held.
