I have had enough of my ISP. They do not understand customer service and they tell lies. Who do you all recommend? I need a minimum of 5GB per month. Currently paying approx $40/month.

Orcon is fine.
Depends on where you are, how far from the exchange, alignment of the planets etc

Orcon does keep popping up. I'm with Snap. Never had an issue, my 20GB plan includes phone and is $90/month. Was the cheapest at the time, other are saying they pay the same or less with other providers but as far as I can tell they're lying or they've all lowered their rates. nThe good thing with Snap is it does'nt seem to get as overloaded and slow down as much as other providers during peak, of-course that could be all in my head!
Would be worth checking out.
I was even nice enough to look for you. $40 month will give you 5.5 gig. You need to buy the 3 GB plan with a 2.5 GB top up. (i'm sure they;d just custom make you a plan but 3 GB plus the 2.5 topup works out at $39.90) The cool thing with Snap is you can actually buy extra download, and in several different sizes from 1-50 odd GB. I know for a fact that Teleshit wo'nt let you do that.

Ive been with Ihug/Vodafone since 2006,after Ihug was bought by vodafone, the service improved a lot and it's very rare that there will be an outage. I'm on the 5GB a month plan for $50. The data can be doubled to 10Gb when and if you need it.

Orcon is fine.
Till ya decide to leave:brick:
I've just changed to Xtra from Orcon (headache both ways), to take advantage of ADSL2. Speed is 5 times faster than I was getting with Orcon and no real extra cost.

My problem is getting broadband as I travel a lot. While in NZ I have been connecting on the Telecom XT network with a macbook pro. At moment connecting from where I am staying on ihug. This is no where near as fast as the connection in Brisbane where I am normally based.

You did WHAT?! You changed TO Xtra?!!!!!????
Not the way it usually goes, but ooooook. You get a really good deal or something?
We literally pay less than $10 more a month and we get 15GB more than what we were with Xtra. To get half of that was waaaaay more with Xtra.(10 GB instead of 20GB was more expensive WTF!?) We asked first. Laughed at the asked for price for the 20GB plan and left. My favourite thing about Xtra is the fact that you absolutely cannot, buy more broadband for the month. Once you've used it you're screwed......dial up speed or bust!

No. And we had heaps of problems with whoosh. Although to be fair, they were new at the time.
Oh, and wireless is never as fast as cable. (as far as i'm aware)

You're normal in Brisbane...?
I'm with TelstraClear and they've got a good package deal. I recommend checking them out.

I am with Vodafone, via ihug and predating that, wave.
Speed is so-so. Cost is so-so. Of late reliability has been much better - no outages for months. The only gripe I have is getting hold of them - especially if there IS an outage. Always conspicuous by their absence...

Xtra and Voda have signed up for the governments censorship system. I bet your internet slows down when all your traffic has to first be sent to nternal Affairs Dept for checking.

Yep choose a ISP that isn't into big brother censorship.

I am one of the ones who left Ihug after voldafone took over. There customer service turned to shit .. When I rang to complain I asked if they wanted my business - they said no ... so we cancelled immediately on that basis ...
With Telecom now ... its ok .. got a total home package which fully suits my needs.

Interesting responses. Thanks everyone.
I have been with Orcon since hteir inception. Spped has slowed to a crawl. Asked them to move my plan to my alternate line. They said they can't do that unless I buy a new plan with tolls etc. I said get me the boss to discuss my support. He never rand back so i intended moving. The they offered an upgrade that overall was competitive so I stayed. More fool me!! Turns out they can't support a fax machine and their solution is to charge me more money for a 3rd telecom line.
I got transferred to nowhere when I objected to be fucked around after specifically asking about the fax prior to making the plan change.
SO far the best deal appears to be a Telecom business plan. I need a static IP address and they are the only Co I can find to offer it for free. I do not mean xtra here. They charge shitloads for a StaticIP.
After 10 years I can truly say Orcon sux big time.
