2002 Honda XR650R,alloy bars,barkbusters,aftermarket black seat,very very tidy - rego A2BLK

I drove to Alexandra & picked up the bike on thursday, the garage at his flat had the door forced overnight(auto door opener affair) & this morning bike was gone.

That really, really sucks. I almost thought I recognised the rego (my recent thread) as the first two digits were the same. Good luck, hopefully it's insured.

What part of town was it taken from Helen?

rustic101
28th March 2010, 16:41
Gutting - will keep an eye out on TM, Sella etc, although it may either be in parts on its way out of the country or allowing some prick to access his/her crops.

Can you remember anyone hanging around, odds vehicles or being followed?? Did his mates know where the bike was going??? Is there any CCTV, speed or red light cameras in the vicinity of where the bike was removed?

Hey thanks everyone!

Yeah JATZ,you & your boy have" been there done that"

Its gutting,Sam is devasted,I dont hold out much hope of seeing the bike again

No pics sorry!didnt get a chance to take any!
I trailered the bike home from Alex Thursday, got into CHCH 7pm & swung past Sams flat,he had it unloaded, was geared up & off in an instant!!
He had that ride & on Friday rode it only a couple of ks

Stayed in his garage from Friday avo till discovered it gone Sunday morning
I raced at Ruapuna Sunday,he was going to ride out & watch the racing & get some kickstarting tips.
I was going to suggest taking it home so we could give it a good clean & going over(as you do with a new bike!)
Not to be....

Could you put up a pic of a similar bike to give the folk over there an idea of what it looks like.
Is there a registry for posting engine/frame numbers of stolen bikes?

There's my ignorance on display, did'nt realise they made 'em for that long. Guess my sub-concious told me there ain't that many of them around and I don't know when I last saw one. My mate bought a new one back in '02, road only and plenty of grunt but...a little heavy on the track from memory .......Only saw one on TM today and looks like it's an import

Theres only a handfull of XRs in ChCh I believe....

Reality is its highly unlikely the thieves will risk riding it on the road,it will either have been moved out of Canterbury,or stripped down for use off-road

They are keyless, dscompression lever, kickstart beasts...not the easiest to start if you dont know what your doing....maybe the lowlife that stole it had a heart attack trying to get it started!:Pokey:

most thieves are pretty dumb tho.... so you never know. havent taken the dogs out for a while so will go big red pig hunting thiis weekend

one of the first things i got for mine was a keyed ignition. not much security but it is something - and normally the reason my bike wont start cos i forget to turn the key on

Hey Helen, thats a real kick in the guts, sorry to hear it. If Sam wants his CBR back just give me a yell and come get it. I will stick a poster up in the shop window tomorrow.
I will also write the rego number on the front window of my van so i can see it (as i have a hopeless memory) and if i do, i will (accidently of course) knock him off and park on the little fu*kers head until the cops arrive (bike may come back with a scrape or 2 but ...).

Swann -seemed to be concerns bike was stolen to order and doubts that a young guy & the geriatric mother could kickstart, let along handle the bike!!

Hey Helen, by "stolen to order" are they implying you purchased the bike with the intent to do insurance fraud by having it stolen then claiming on the insurance??
Get your ass-cessor (note spelling is deliberate) to give me a call if he has concerns. I can verify for him your riding skill level and sams competance as well.
At the risk of offending some people...... Swann..... pffft.

Once the "ass-cessor" had meet & talked to me,then gone to Sams flat & talked to him,he realised we are OK!
So all sorted now and Sam brought another XR at the weekend

Good news, its a real shame the thieves have not been located and dealt with but given our current justice system it would be better if they fell off and injured themselves in a horrific manner as their chances of getting of with a slap on the wrist is very high.

When Mrs Oakie had her bike stolen a couple of years back the 'guy from Swann' was actually a local private investigator who they retain. I guess that is why there is an emphasis on the possibility of dirty dealings because that's what he is used to doing rather than being a sympathetic insurance rep. Overall we were happy with Swann. I think it was a month from the bike being stolen to wheeling the new one out of Ian's shop.

Thats so what I thought when I heard that too!

So ran the Police, and was told we would have been informed if it was our XR,but it was Saturday morning and all she did was check the database where its still listed as stolen

But Im still half wondering if it was Sams .....
