Thankfuly not literally in this case, but certainly pause for thought.
Allergic reactions really suck the big red kumera  Infact I told the nurse at the A&E Shore Care this morning that I thought I looked like Mr Tomato Head. She said I was not quite that bad, but I think she was just being kind as Maha told me I resembled a Simpsons character, and I have it on good authority from someone that I saw AFTER all the cool shit drugs I have been given, I look like a red spotty zebra :pinch: You wonder about your friends sometimes eh?
Anyway folks, just a community notice from Mom, do not ever leave any weird sensations that involve your face/lips/eyes/lips/gums/throat for very long at all. Infact, do not collect $200 (unless you need it to pay for the friggen treatment :pinch:) and proceed to your neaest dispenser of IV drugs. Do not ever ignore the onset of spots, even tiny little ones for a few days if you have jsut started new drugs. Do not let the doctor you see on Saturday as you are now really getting spotty and itchy, fob you off with a small once a day anti histamine with instructions to come back in 10 days.
I dont really look like a spotty, red Zebra, but I can see how the two could be confused if you need corrective lenses.
Be aware, dont ignore allergic symptoms ever!
EDIT: I will live, but not sure if I will ever take another prescribed drug without finding out what exactly I am allergic to.

You know I asked the question today about claiming this treatment under ACC. Drug reaction causes serious illness. Was told I cant claim as the drug I took has a potentail to create this reaction. EXcellent!

Grass, pollen, dustmite etc allergens are not what I am talking about here. I am talking adverse reaction to prescribed medicines. Do not ever be complacent around them, they have the potential to kill if you develop anaphylaxis. I was lucky this time, I could still breathe.

One of the two reasons I wound up in a wheelchair was the effects of Dihydracodeine, or DHC. Combined with Cushing's Syndrome produced symptoms mimicing MS and although I was examined exhaustively by four different neurologists I remained a medical mystery until I determined by my own research that the drugs were a major contributor to my illness. It still took them 10 years before a very astute specialist diagnosed Cushings, and he is my hero!
My wife, working as a teacher with young children is trained in first aid and the center is very well informed and very strict on managing the allergies in children. My Grandson could die if he eats a peanut and has nearby at all times an emergency kit which includes an injection to be administered if he reacts badly.

No not shingles, this is a total body thing. Wish me luck for tonight, I have been told today if it flares again I have to ring 111 as the doctors can not do anything else for me, I need hospital treatment. Mind you the new ongoing drug regime appears to be working so far, I am off to the scratcher :pinch: Except I dare not scratch :D
Numb lips combined with a fat tongue that prevents you from talking properly gives you the total shits I can assure you of that, no herotics from this gal tonight, 111 will be my first port of call.
Added insurance, I have a bag packed, so should be sweet as for a good nights sleep.

I learned something really good about high blood pressure today too. It actually saves your bacon when you get a belt of anaphylaxis, what would be really serious drop from normal blood pressue, is only a slight drop in high blood pressure. Having said that, I went down as status 2, ended up with the lights on. They arranged to meet one of the oscar paramedics at Oteha Valley Rd onramp. I got the cute Nick ;) take me from there to North SHore, jsut avoided being given adrenaline in the ambo by the skin of my teeth.
I am absolute knackered. I have jsut taken my top up antihistamine. I am determined to get some sleep tonight and I WILL NOT replase tomorrow.
Big thanks to all the mediacl professionals that have taken care of me today. Honestly I could not have had better nor more prompt care. Thanks also to every one that has sent their best wishes, said prayers and sent positive energy my way, it is appreciated. Nght, night all. Hug the ones you love tonight, for they are all special people.

There are a number of groups with seperate forums to be found under 'groups' in the Community pull-down menu. Some of these groups are invite-only. One of those is Bitches'R Us. Bitches'R Us is populated by a number of KB's girl-members, and no doubt they use it to talk through issues that are intensely private, but needing of listening ears that can provide support without judgement. Some members feel threatened by what they perceive to be a part of KB they are excluded from, and make up all sorts of weird and strange tales of the supposed goings-on inside that particular private forum.
BTW - I wonder what goes on in Blast From The Past? That's an invite-only forum too...perhaps they are plotting to replace all the modern bikes with ancient, oil-hemorrhaging excuses for motorcycles?? Who'd know - until it's too late - unless they were a member of that group?

Thank you John,
Anne has had a couple of the South Auckland KBers turn up today, I on the other hand, I got caught up in a road spiking carry-on on the way home at Hatfields Beach.
Not me personally, but some dude in a stolen car had Eagle above keeping an eye on things, all very Police 10-7!
Think this guy was the problem... http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10636086&ref=rss

Yeah thats him. I got waved over by a Cop, I said ''whats up mate'' reply '' just get off the road if you dont want your tyres spiked''.
The car came back towards us from Waiwera end, saw the spikes/cop and did a U Turn, he must have gone up one of those driveways just North of Hatfields on the right.....Doh!

Managed to Wheel Anne outside today, just for ten minutes, needed to see what the real looks like, there are no windows where she is, not a one.
So outside we go, fresh air and I wheeled her over to see a sculpture thing. Got the wheelchair up the larger than normal curb ok, but it wasn't going to wheel off it the same, part of the wheelchair wouldn't allow this to happen (hard to explain) so I had to ask Anne to get out up and step down onto the road, then park back in the chair.

This pic was taken on Wednesday, imagine this all over your body, even on your face!
It itches and at times feels like pins pricking your skin, it has a burning sensation also.
These spots were at there worst yesterday, they looked a whole lot better today.
They have been applying a Menthol formula which, feels really nice going on but soon makes you shiver as the Menthol takes effect. The lure is coming out today, they are now treating it from the outside in.

Doing really good now from all accounts, energy level is way down still. Bruising has surfaced.
Got the Wheelchair out again today, Anne wanted to go outside again. It was fine misty rain so I wheeled her out in it for a while, nice to feel the rain on your face.
Looks like Easter bunny has been also, so helped her with that.
Walked in with a real coffee I got from Milford, oh and a Chocolate Brownie.
EDIT: More drama today on the way home, two cars over the bank on the southern side of the Waiwera passing lane.

Called in to visit Anne this arvo. She's almost looking human again and much perkier. Poor thing, been pretty traumatic for her and Mark!
Still a bit fragile, obviously and worried about what medication to try next. She may be out tomorrow when she promises to come on KB and do some stirring! Good sign, that! I reckon not to worry too much about an early release, though, unless the immunologist can sort the meds out fairly quickly. After this experience I'd be taking my time and making sure first, which is something she's thinking, too.
Was great to see her so much better though! Sorry we missed you, Mark.

Im going to get down there soon Ed, they have her discharge papers filled out, but dosen't want to leave without a script for some Blood Pressure pills.
They have had her off all BP meds for a day or two now.
They have also shifted her down the hall a bit into another room, the hospital is filling up fast today Anne reckons.

I am home. Thank you to all of you for your good wishes, calls, visits, texts etc. It has been an interesting experience for sure and one I am in no hurry to repeat. I have gained 7 kilos of fluid I am so swollen, and now my body resembles a bruised spotty swollen thing :D Absolutely knackered. The docotor assures me that all will resolve over the coming weeks and return to normal. They have stopped all steriods now (far out I have been pumped up on them big time for the past week) basically they believe that it has turned the corner now and should continue to abate. If not I can always redsort to 111 again :pinch: I have been signed off work for the next week to allow more healing time, hopefully that will be all it takes. I am currently covered underACC so that is good news. Mind you 80% of 5/8s of SFA is not a lot, but certainly better than a kick in the pants.
New BP pills have been taken, fingers crossed eh. Seems the thinking is it was not so much the one pill that caused the problem but the combination of the one I was already on and the new one, talk about special  I have to get a medic alert bracelet too.
