Any ladies on the shore that would like to go for rides?
My friends all ride motorcross/enduro and think I am mad riding on the road!
Just looking for people to go for cruisy rides, I am no speed demon.....
Any one?

NASS is on the north shore I believe. Not a women-exclusive thing though. I would love to come along to a ride if you get some organised (I am rubbish at organising anything; it's a miracle I get myself from A to B sometimes) :) :)

I am not worried about the women only thing, I just thought it may be weird riding with guys and leaving the husband at home with the kids....... (tried to imagine how I would feel if he was off riding with a bunch of women and not me - I don't think I would like that!!)

Anyway, what suburb are you in? And what is NASS ??

Info about NASS from the Wiki:
http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/wiki/North_Auckland_Street_Skills

It is a free skills training session that includes a ride. I'll guestimate there is 4 or 5 woman that come along each week.

Suburbs have no relevance when you have motorsickle! :D
Mr. Hellokitty should realise that it's a male dominated hobby so you're going to be around men all the time anyway.

Mr Hellokitty is awesome, and trusts me completely, I feel bad when I go off riding and leave him at home with the kids - but they are his kids, not mine

I have heard of that, unfortunately, I have a really demanding job, and I would be far too tired to do an evening training session. I believe that it is too easy to screw it up and have an accident when you are too tired - mentally and physically.

You can always do jusy the car park exercises - you should be pretty safe at low speed. :)

You could try the Sunday ride.

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=96387

We are all different speeds so we wait for each other.
My other half rides as well and she is no speed demon and she is always complaining that no other women come along.

hellokitty. This is the lady with the Harley sportster that you sent an email to. I do not live on the shore but can just pop over the Greenhithe bridge or meet you half way. I am very tempted to offer you a ride on my bike to try her out, maybe in a quiet carpark or street, but wouldnt mind meeting you first. I have just got back to riding after many years and have a very patient friend who rides with me. I go for short rides often and am just starting to venture further so know how you are feeling. The Wed Kiwibikers that meet at the Shell Westgate and then ride over to Albany would be very helpful also. The guys there have been so supportive and respectful encouraging me. But I dont think I will ride much at night with them as I can ride during the day and I really just need the milage.

Hi! It would be cool if you wanted to go for a ride, and if you maybe one day would let me have a go on your bike, that would be awesome! I do have a full license if you were wondering.
Even just to sit on it and feel the weight would be really helpful, give me an idea of how heavy your bike is. To be honest I would probably be nervous as hell riding your beautiful bike!!
I am happy to go out west to meet you, it is a ride I do quite a lot.
I did think about doing the Wednesday night ride, but I have a stressfull job and am too tired to do it, I would not have enough concentration to ride safely.
If you want to go for a ride just let me know - I work all week but am free on the weekends

As BorisTheBitter says, I'm frequently at the back. I've recently come to realise the I have a large error in my speedo, and while I think I've been doing the limit, I'm actually going about 6km/h slower. :(

That's fine. i have to stay to the speed limit (too many points) but it is very hard to do.

as for the weight of a bike the rule of thumb is the weight of the bike should be no more than 3 times your body weight.

Hi hellokitty, that would be great. I will be free on Sunday at around midday and the weather is fine. Would that time suit you and just trying to think of somewhere to meet? I also dont mind coming over the shore. Have you done the run up to Helensville? Thats one I do thats really mint. We could meet up at the Shell at Westgate?

Cool! Lets meet at Shell Westgate at midday? I will be the one in the pink jacket on a silver Suzuki Intruder. I have done the Helensville ride, I do prefer open road to motorway for sure.
I will give you my cell phone number in a message

My husband had a good idea - he said that I should hire a HD sportster one day (and not try to ride yours) so that if anything happened I wouldn't be damaging someones pride and joy, I would just be damaging a bike shops rental and insurance would cover it.

But I would like to sit on your bike to get an idea of the weight

Hey I dont mind who turns up to come for a ride. I thought we could just go for a short ride up to Helensville and back, no pressure. I have found that the speed limit to some is 10klms faster than the speed limit signs and I often get left behind. I am also slow on the corners but getting better. Lol!!!

that is a baseless assumption espoused by the authors of the illustrious road code. what about all the harley riders who happily cruise around on 300kg+ bikes? personally, as a 45kg rider i find that almost everything i want to ride is more than 3 times my weight. i just ride what i want to ride.

like i said it is just a rule of thumb.

I don't mean to pick on you personally, it's just a rule of thumb suggested in the Road Code that has absolutely no meaning, especially given Nick Smith's recent nonsensical comments that the increased ACC levies "reflect how bigger cc bikes are usually heavier therefore people can't control them" (quote not exact but you get the idea). Several things wrong with that statement that is plainly obvious.

I would suggest that a better rule of thumb may be that if you can control it at stationary and low speeds, and you can pick it up off the ground when it's down, it's not too heavy for you.

on saying that then 90% of riders have bikes that are to big for them.

I was just meaning that it is a considation to make when buying a new bike.

it is a Honda VT750 like the pretty white one with flames, but silver. Is only a few months old and I am getting it for 3 grand below normal retail as it has a scratched back guard.
Ha! I could easily scratch a guard on a new bike myself, so I thought I would take the deal.

That's true. I guess if you can scratch a guard without scratching anything else it's likely that it wasn't dropped per se.

It looks like the bike was backed into something, ( the scratches are on top of the guard and the back of the indicators) kinda like the time I backed my GN250 into my stepsons car and busted the brake light  which is why I am not concerned about it - I think as it is not "perfect" then I won't get upset if I do scratch it.

Hi how about meeting at Burger King carpark, Westgate, around 12.30pm and heading up to Helensville, stop for coffee, then Kaukapakapa, Dairy Flat then down to Albany. Or we could make it shorter? I should imagine Albany carpark on a Sat afternoon would be very busy to meet up there. And I am not too familiar with Albany to suggest anywhere else. If we meet up over the shore we could do the ride in the opposite dirrection. I really one day want to cruise around the waterfront, Mission Bay, St Heliers. Be a biker chick!!!!

Westgate at 12.30 sounds good - is a nice "warm up" ride for me to settle down before I meet up with you. Albany would be too busy and I know where I am going now! Sounds like a good ride too through Helensville - will be nice to do it on the 750.
I did the waterfront last weekend after coffee at that cafe with the motorbikes - deus ex machina (or something) - got some funny looks as I seemed to be the only female riding (a couple of pillions but I was the only rider). We should do that another time.

Nah, last big ride we went on one of the chaps brought out his big cruiser... So long as you dont race off and leave us all behind! I used to ride with the groups with the big sports bikes, and trying to keep up with them was just plain dangerous... Hence the 'Biker Boyz' group! The way I see it, we promote a 'safe, hassle-free' environment for learners, whilst still having fun! I have had encouraging messages from other more experienced riders, some of whom are keen to help out with tips and stuff... Personally, I can't wait for summer to come back again so I can be out riding every weekend!

See the link above for any details of upcoming rides...

Hey all, metvuw seems to think that Saturday (and Sunday, kind of) are looking pretty clear:

http://metvuw.com/forecast/forecast.php?type=rain&region=nz&noofdays=7

I would love a cruisey ride with some coffee stops along the way. Been so busy I just don't have time for a day-long journey round the coro nor do I have the energy to be blasting around taunting the authorities.

Would the L-platers be intending on doing 70km/h or 100km/h? What sort of experience/comfort-level are we at?
