I need to get my racing licnce to race. I race with the buckets, so does this mean I need to join a club to get it? how much will it set me back?

I have just started to apply for a race license. First you need to join a race club, I joined the auckland one. I believe there is a Vicoria one and perhaps more? Membership form is here for auckland (AMCC):

Then once you have your membership you can apply for your race license from MNZ here:

For a senior membership at AMCC is $45.00 for MNZ race license its $90.00
