Hey guys,
I am planning to sit my full licence test in 2 weeks. I currently hold a learner licence. I am jumping to full licence straight as i am doing an overseas conversion from my overseas full bike licence.
I was wondering if any of you guys can give me some pointers please(who have already done their full test)
I have already read http://www.nzta.govt.nz/resources/factsheets/59/motorcycle-full-licence.html
I am still a little concerned about little things.
E.g stopping on an intersection(traffic lights). Before stopping am i allowed to stop using my brakes fully with clutch fully in and not using engine breaking at all or does it not matter or .... ???
What about once i have stopped. Am i supposed to have both feet on the ground with neutral? or am i supposed to have one foot on the ground and the other on the foot brake.?
What about hands. Am i am supposed to have both hands on the handle at all times while i am stopped?

Another question i have is about U turn. When doing a U turn is it just like a car(except in a car its 3 point turn)? Someone please explain how to do a U turn which will make me pass. I mean the steps involved. Eg. for a car - stop on the left after indicating. indicate right. turn. indicate left. turn back. check all mirrors etc and blind spots etc. and then indicate right again and then go straight.

Another question i have is as i am on learners i am only allowed to ride at 70. But in the full test i will be asked to go on the motorway where the speed is 100. Should i be riding at 70 at all times or should i be riding at 100 on the motorway to show them that i can ride at 100.?

Please clarify. This thread is for pointers for the full test so please do not get off topic. If you cant help or dont have any pointers then please do not comment about other topic so we dont get side traced as i only have two weeks to clarify.

Thank you for your guys time in advance.
Regards

Jonno.

Edit I read it again: you can go 100 on your test I believe, ask the fulla you do your test with.
To do a u turn:

Indicate left to pull over
look both ways
indicate right
turn

The full test is a test of your experience and ability on a motorcycle. If you come up to the standard then you pass. If you do not, then you fail. There isn't anything you can do to make you pass except be experienced, and so you either are, or you are not.

Sounds to me like you are worried that you don't have the experience. If this is true, the best thing you can do is find a riding instructor or a patient mentor real quick and get started on finding out your weaknesses and get them ironed out pronto.

Good luck.

People are going to pop up about your both feet down question. No, one on the brake, one foot down is fine, as long as you stop, the instructor is'nt going to fail you unless he's doing it as an excuse for lack of ability. If you're worried just count to three once you have stopped then go.

U turn as described above.

Go at posted speed limits, you are allowed to go faster than 70 in your test.

As for rolling to a stop not using the gears, that just reeks of inexperience, if you have to ask you will need some practise before the test. As the intructor is in a car behind you, he wo'nt know, but really, you do use your gears to slow down right?

Keep both hands on the bars......er, yeah, where did you get your original licence!? You CAN take a hand off for a second or two I guess to make adjustments to your helmet/whatever, but I would'nt make it a habit.

Its been a while since I sat my full but from what I can remember...
stopping:
1) you should really be able to engine break.
2) Do what feels most appropriate, I really dont think it matters about how many feet you have on the ground
3) What you do want to do though is check your mirrors before you stop and once you pull away, and make sure they can see you do it.

U turn:
No dont do a 3 point turn., you should be able to do a u turn pretty easily though

100:
You're a learner until you pass your full, therefore you stick to learner rules, stay at 70

How long have you been riding and what bike did you ride overseas anyway??

You sure about this?

stay at 70

This is wrong. Go at the posted speed limits.

The instructor needs to know you are comfortable riding at the posted speed.

I'm so sure i'd put money on it.

Fair enough I must be wrong, like I said it's been a while. Although it is a bit of a concern that an experienced rider is worried about engine breaking....

It specifically states in the road code you are allowed to do over 70 while on your learners during your 6r test. As this guy is skipping the 6r test I don't know where that leaves him - obviously if you have your 6r when going for your 6f 100kph isn't an issue.

Best advise would be to ask the tester before the test.

Absolutely, i'm thinking that perhaps it's one of them Tongan full licences that you get immediately, which is allowing the guy to sit his full.

I ca'nt say i've even seen anyone ask that question before.

Scary thing is, this person will then ba able to go out and buy a Hayabusa!

Its all good though, our outrageous ACC bills will sort everything out though, won't they??

Egzacharry. We are getting a bit ahead of ourselves though, we can only presume all this stuff until we hear back from jafa, although it's probably spot-on.

on the motorway you can't stick to 70km, you have to do 100km - this is the only time a learner can go over 100km
I nearly failed my restricted because of this as I didn't know and the tester forgot to tell me that as a learner I may go 100km on the test

Guys,
Thank you for all you replies. As you all are wondering which country i got my licence from i am not going to disclose that. As there might be arguements and this will turn into some completely different thread. Thats why i said originally please do not get side tracked. Trust me its all ligit and i am experienced. I am not worried about engine breaking at all but the question was if they (tester) care if i engine break or not.
To whoever is concerend on me getting a hyabusa please dont be. I just spent 11k on a brand new ninja 250r 2010 (including gear). I am going to stick with this bike for a while. I am experienced but not too well in this country. And hence all the questions.
Just to prove i am going to be safe and responsible i have spent almost $2500 on gear. which includes a shoei xr1100 MRP $899.

Guys,
I received an answer from LTSA about riding at 100 on the motorway during my test. Thank you again for your replies. Please keep the tips for my test coming in.

Email from LTSA below:
Thank you for your email dated 29 March 2010.

During the test you will be accompanied by a testing officer, who in this instance will be your supervisor.

You will be required to comply with the permanent or temporary speed zone of the area you are riding in. For example, If you are required to ride in a 100km/h area you must ride at this speed (or within 5km of this speed).

Unless you are completing the test, you must ride to the conditions of your learner licence until the test has been successfully passed.

I hope this clarifies your question.

Regards

ive got my full test in mid august, right when the weather is crap.
Pretty much everything i did for my R test I will do again for my full, with some 100kph zone stuff added, I did the U turn already.
Basically Im going in with the idea that if I fail who gives a sh!t, ill just resit until i get it.
And i shouldnt fail more than once, coz when i shave my body hair, I dont look like a monkey.
