Hi all -
Had a great time this year. It all started over a beer with me and a few mates almost a year ago when we had an idea on how to build a lighter commuter bike by designing a new chrome moly frame for the SV650 and then develop that into something that handled half respectfully in just two months of testing prior to the kick off of the nats at Ruapuna.
We hit the ground running in the South Island - and other than a few gremlins in the wet with an electrical missfire at Ruapuna and some very close racing with Terry Fitzgerald and Jason we managed to head back to the north with an 11 point lead over Jason "Gimpy" Easton and his neat little Tigcraft Aprilia.
Manfield was a real dogfight - with no races being one by more than .2 of a second, - but i managed to head to Hampton with a 16 point lead.
Both Jason and Terry turned up with their game at Hampton and I knew it was going to be close - when the combination of the Tigcraft and Gimpys skills with the busy Hampton track proved to be very competitve.
Jason grabbed 5 of those 16 points back in the first race and i rode as hard as i had all year long to keep Terry Fitz at bay and secure 2nd place.
The 2nd race was a bun fight from turn one, with Terry and I getting away from a slightly slower starting Gimpy in the first lap - but it didnt last long! - until he was onto us. Unfortunatley a brake seal failiure in that race caused Jason to fall and to his credit he managed to miss my back wheel by what bystanders said looked like millimeters. I was very lucky and am thankfull for Jasons quick thinking and skills by managing to avoid me.
With that happened - it was a matter of securing the position (2nd) and winning the championship as a result.
The last race of the day and of the season was the TT title - and with the championship done and dusted it was all down to one race for the TT title. We had a great battle with Terry Fitz but unfortunatley Gimpy could not come and play with us for very long as his brake issues re-appeared. At the end though the cunning ole fox Mr Fitzgerald - drafted past me on the last lap of the last straight and "hijacked me" for the win.
Goodonya Terry - you still ride damm well and its a pleasure to share the track with you at speed.
Commiserations Gimpy - you pushed me to new limits , and that makes one feel young again! - (god knows i need plenty of that.........) :-)
Cheers to all the Kiwibikers that kept in touch and for all the support from mates and family , it was an awesome season in F3.

Looked like an amazing season alright! fantastic to watch, the class is cool, two hand built bikes that couldnt be more different producing such close racing, the battle at Manfeild is the best race I have ever watched congratulations.

watch out for the Triumph TT450 next year ...

Good onya old fella. I really enjoyed the F3 races. There were battles going on right throughout the field in each race and it was great to see.

When I saw your bike a couple of months back I thought you'd thrown on some old fairings just in case something happened at the trackday. I was surprised to see it unchanged at Hampton Downs, especially considering the presentation of your bike last year. But if you've been fiddling with frames that explains things.

Well done Glen, awesome effort and all the more so for trying it with the innovation of a custom hand built frame. That requires skill, knowledge and courage .... all of which you clearly have.
Cheers mate.

They reckon it's harder to "hold" a championship than to win it in the first place. (I wouldn't know)

You've certainly had your work cut out this year Glen and it doesn't look to be getting easier :) Well done man, very deserved title again.

Congrats Glen , another cup on the shelf aye. At least you dont have to make new stickers for the bike now lol. #1 again.
You and Gimpy and Terry are showing us all what F3 is all about ," differant stuff that works well " .
Next year we hope to have Neils bike in a top few place so watch out for him .

Respect , Paul.

Well done glen,

your experience and faith in your abilities ( both on track and in the workshop ) really are showing through.
It gives us less experienced guys a good kick up the arse to get out there and take on this nationals thing!

I heard your triple blew up a while ago...interesting. My 20 year old thing can still do 7 laps with a blown head gasket!!

We are going to replace the gasket and a few other bits..... you wont be pulling away down the straights after my ife savings is gone... who wants to retire anyway?

Again well done - will buy you a beer for sure.

Yes it did, nothing to do with being a 450 though, just a failure which would have happened had it been a 600 still. Running fine now I put another piston in it.

A failure that led to it becoming a 450 you mean? Much the same sort of circumstances as my bike :)

Nope a failure that led it to becoming a 300, well maybe a 375, the dodgy cylinder still had about half compression.

Yeah a few crashes and some hard learned lessons (bike damage = expensive to fix) was a good experience. At teretonga i got to within 0.5s of the thread starter/champion. Levels should have been better but hard crash in qualifying. Next year I think I can give them a hurry up :)

So your frame made a difference?, looks great.

Frame took some time to get right, but in the end it was working well. Very pleased to be part of doing something a little different & getting it to prove its worth at a competitve level out on a race track.

Brilliant effort Mr Williams! I just love the beer fuelled ingenuity, exactly what the class is all about and long may it continue. You thought about marketing those frames?

Strength of beer appeared to be directly related to flex of frame initially ....... , selling , yes we have a jig capable of quantity production. US$ value was around 3500 i think ready to ship.
