Beatles remastered albums

Been having a shit time of it lately with one fucking thing or another so I decided to treat myself to some of my favourite music with a bit of cash I got from the UK for my birthday in a couple of weeks.

Went ouit and bought the remastered versions of my favourite Beatles albums, Revolver, Rubber Soul and the White Album.

Fucking amazing, sound really different. They are supposed to soud like what was heard in the control room during the original recording sessions and there is certainly some additional quality and individuallity to the music.

As a fat, pommie, musical git, I found them refreshing listening.

A fair appraisal sir. As an artist and producer for over 30 years and operating my own studio for the best part of 20, I would go some way to agree with that.

And if I wanted to analyse wave forms for loudness, then I would. However, I decided to leave my anal recording engineer self at home today and listened to these albums using the oldest audio replication and mastering device known to man.......my fucking ears........and my ears like what they heard.

As I said, it is a fair point and well worth banging on about, but sometimes the music is worth so much more than the techincal raping that so many people find important. I remmeber being in a studio with a very young Howard Jones many years ago. He came in with a set of Korg synths and a huge effects rack. He said ti the engineer that he wanted a really fat Fender Strat sound, right on the middle to back pick up slot with the classic 70's funk chop etc etc. He started to unpack his gear and began twiddling with knobs and buttons. The engineer shook his head and reached into a cabinet. He pulled out a Fender strat guitar, handed to Mr Jones and said (I have never forgotten these words):

"If you want a strat sound, why dont you play a strat you stupid looking hairy cunt"

Point is, feck the analysis, just have the sound.

Personally I'm 100% against digitally altering music, and when I play an album that has been obviously "retouched" it ruins it for me.

And engineers fucking with the artists music when the artist isn't in a position to stop them?, sacrilege of the highest order.
