my financial difficulties are sort of over. so its time to buy another bike and try being a motorcyclist again.

still learning, so i have my eye on an rg 150 thats local.

but its time to buy gear again.
i have the helmet, gloves and boots sorted. i am going for 2 piece leathers, i am absolutely paranoid about my gear being not the best. pretty much set on some qmoto gear for this.

but what i want to know is:
i have seen things like sentinel armour suit (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Helmets-clothing-footwear/Armour/auction-281109487.htm) and was wondering if it would be better to get something like that, and a leather jacket, sans armour over the top?

this is for a 45km commute everyday on the (free flowing - whangarei) motorway.
will a standard back brace give me the same level of protection, if worn with some leathers?

i plan on getting a drysuit to wear over the leathers for rainy days.

leatt neck brace: i am sure they work, but are they wearable for road riding? (http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Helmets-clothing-footwear/Armour/auction-280595228.htm)

i plan to do a track day in may, and then again in june, august, and october. (my best mate organises track days at taupo track, and he will give me 3 hours each time all to myself on the track if i do marshalling while the cars are using it.) so hopefully whatever i get will be suitable for this too?

i really want something like the full armor suit mentioned before, but how does this work with leathers?

help guys?

Jonno.

Dude, that's a bit over the top for a commute and even for a track day.
If you want safety get a back protector.
I doubt you're going to find anyone using a armour suit, let a lone a neck brace as I'm pretty sure they're both used for MX.
These things are likely to hinder you more then help you and hindering you means you're more likely to crash.

fair enough.
back protector = same price as armour suit. i just thought maybe its a bit better, if i didnt have the armour in my leathers, and just used that.
i am just super paranoid about some stupid little crash rendering me paralyzed.
as far as the neck brace goes, i have actually spoken on the phone to a guy in the states who started using one for road and track days, and now he says he is so used to it that he wont go anywhere without it

Have a look at some of the A* track protection vests if you're keen on extra protection.

That plus a regular leather jacket with the proper armour would be getting pretty close to one of those armoursuits you're looking at there...

Also, I don't think suits like that are all that good at abrasion resistance? (Someone will correct me if I'm worong :-) )

i wasnt talking about wearing the suit only, just wearing it under my leathers, which i will use but remov ethe armour from.
i have only taken the decision to start riding again two days ago, so i am still trying to figure out what is the absolute best i can use.

thanks

I'd check out these two online dealers in NZ - both have excellent reputations:
