I don't know if anyone else has these problems, and I probably don't have the right to complain BUT . . . .

We have this stoopid bloody thing @ work called "Mail Marshall", this means that anything or any site that we try and acess thru the net is "monitered". What it does is finds anything that is deemed inappropriate, blah blah im sure you all get my point. The stoopidist thing is that it will actually pop a screen up, which varies in colour depending on the "severity" of the words or explicit pictures blah blah. What I find amusing is the screen will actually tell you what words (in full) or pictures were blocked and how many times it appears in that particular site, for example ;
F**K - triggered 12 times
C*nt - triggered . . . And so on
Anyway rant over, but because of "Mail Marshall" I am unable to view quite a few threads @ work, I know that I should be working, but really WHY!!! Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know how to get around this? Or am I just dreaming!

We have "Websense" here at work where every staff member with internet access has a quota of 30mins internet surfing each day on non-work related sites. It is also monitored by our network administrator.

Thankfully, for some reason unknown to me, www.kiwibiker.co.nz (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/) isn't classified by Websense as non-work related??, so I have access whenever I like - good eh! :D

According to my IT dept they have the latest Spam filters and web site filtering software. So now I get unsolicited e-mails with the words t**s, c*ck,c**t in the titles but I can't visit the web pages for Middlesex or Scunthopre Local Authorities in the UK. Go figure!

...beside which, ignoring 99% of my posts, I don't do it anyway!

F**k having that sort of big brother monitoring at work. We do have moinitoring, but they don't enforce it to that extent. I would leave if they did. Anyway, net access is a requirement of any computer techs job.

I was actually told by my old boss when he was pissed at his leaving piss up that working on my biker sites from work was thought as being part of my package. He and the boss before him both ride TL's :niceone:

Hey , little brother - you've turned up at last. Mum will be pleased.

I am the monitor so I have to monitor myself :innocent:

And since a good bit of my job involves waiting around while things compile and process etc, an excursion out to check that the internet connection is still functional and responsive is a very use of otherwise dead time.

What?

I work for a large dairy company which frowns most gravely on staff accessing any fora (forums is not a proper word) via said company's electronic equipment. (and accessing porn is garaunteed to have them say "Bye bye"to you)

Got the same system. It was fine until someone posted a naughty word in one of the threads I clicked on. Now I can't get into the threads at all. I get a lot more work done though.

BTW, what is the point of telling me how many swear words are on the page t won't let me see. Seems like a bit of a nasty trick from the programmers - 'this is good stuff, but there's no way we're letting you see it'

If they block the site, you could try using an anonymous proxy to tto redirect to the KB site. There are a number of free proxies sites out there for this very purpose...

I don't know what you are all sad about, you still get free internet at work.

At uni, we have to pay per outside MB downloaded. Although on my to-do list is ideas for bypassing the proxy server... :msn-wink:

Using Wingate Proxy Server at work, can't be arsed viewing at work. Besides, I should be teaching anyway ;)

It also helps if you one of your best mates is the Network Administrator :Punk:

OH MY GOsh...be thankful we just got a memo saying NO personal web surfing at work at all or you will get a smack....

though worth noting.....Email, Internet are provided using work resources so remember they own it...so if you use it incorrectly like some people in the states you could get dismissed...esp if you use an annonymus (SP) website..most companies keep track of where you go even if they don't block stuff......

(and surprise surprise trademe is one of the biggest hits from most companies) kiwwi biker comes next...he he he nah kidding
