I am wanting to clean the white parts of my Cordura Jacket and just wondering whats the best way to go about it without using the wrong cleaning product on it. Its mainly on the underneath part of the sleeves where it needs cleaning.
Any assistance would be appreciated.

I use a normal washing machine (a Gentle Annie) no detergent with two cap-fulls of NIKWAX "TK direct, wash in" ... wash and waterproof at the same time. You can get it at sports shops ... Works a treat.

If there is a heap of crap on it use detergent in a wash first ... then the "waterproofing" wash...

Just chuck it in the washing machine.

Last time I did it I just soaked it in a tub for 24 hours with a little bit of detergent.

Be careful with waterproofing agents. Once I used once made it my cordura slippery (hard to grip tank afterwards). I'd get any agents you use from an "outdoor" shop that understands your needs.

On the contrary I have always been advised that putting textiles into washing machines is a terrible thing to do for the fabric and heavily compromises the abrasion resistance. It won't hurt to give it a handwash. Unless of course, the nikwax stuff advises you to put motorbike gear into a washing machine...

I personally dont like the idea of putting it into the washing machine and would prefer to hand wash just the sleeves of it. The whole jacket doesn't need cleaning its only the underneath part of the sleeves that needs cleaning. My jacket is a IXON Red, Black & White with the white being on the sleeves.

You hear all sorts of stories about what you should and should not do, and how it compromises the alignment of the planets yadda yadda, but seriously I think thats just a whole lot of over-cautious hoo har.

Trust me, your whole jacket does need a wash. It will look completely different after a good washun. Try a wool wash in the front loader, where it just slops the jacket around in the machine gently and doesn't give a working over.

I'vegot the grey/pink/white ixon. way grubbier. Last timeI washed it I handwashed with old school sunlight soap. Got most but not all of it out.

Nikwax products:

To wash use Techwash....
Wash-in cleaner for waterproof clothing and equipment
Safely revitalises breathability and water-repellency
This product is a non-detergent soap which can be used regularly to clean clothing and equipment without damaging the Durable Water Repellent (DWR) coatings. Use this product instead of detergents or washing powder.

To rewaterproof use TX Direct Wash In....
Wash-in waterproofing for wet weather clothing
Adds water-repellency and revives breathability to fabrics without wicking liners.

I agree and have always handwashed our gear. Nikwax say both products can be used in the washing machine but I'm wary of the waterproof membrane being damaged.

The whole jacket doesn't need cleaning its only the underneath part of the sleeves that needs cleaning. My jacket is a IXON Red, Black & White with the white being on the sleeves. If the white bits are that grubby, the rest of it will be too...you just can't see it! From experience washing our jackets, the grub on the sleeves etc doesn't come off that well no matter what you use.
