Gah. You made me run Powerpoint... anyway:

Insert, Movies and Sounds, Movie from File, choose file, click ok.

For PP2003. I don't do Office 2007, silly ribbon thing gives me a headache.

Yes the nice thing about embedding an image is that it can be from an external source and just streams through using PowerPoint as a player.

I can't seem to find what I want on 2007 eaither :(

are you trying to convert a video into powerpoint, or have a video inside a slide? Which version of office are you using?
