Are there any bike gear shops open tomorrow in Auckland (Easter Monday, 5/4/2010)?

My partner has been keen to become a pillion, and I'm about ready to give in. I have everything needed, except a snug fitting helmet for her head.

It would be nice to get the helmet tomorrow and go for a ride together.

Being that Cycletreads is about 1km from me, I'll be around in the morning. Thanks!

I have an unused Shoei XR1000 size small that I haven't gotten around to putting up on TradeMe yet.
A friend brought it with intentions of getting into motorcycling but he got more interested in triathelons so I'm selling on his behalf. It's only been tried on in the shop before buying, never tried on the road.

Mate was looking for 350 - 400. It's a yellow and black design one, normal clear visor.

That's more like something I would buy for myself! This is for a pillion that will probably only use it 4 or 5 times a year.

The safety of a $200 helmet is similar to the safety of a $700 helmet for normal on road use. The difference in cost is normally things like helmet weight, noise resistance, breath guards, pinlock visors, fancy electronics, etc.

I would have no problem using a $200 helmet. The difference being I ride a lot, all year around.

So best you get off your high horse now before saying that I am prepared to accept a low level of safety for my partner.

So............. did you end up getting a helmet? I have a spare RJays helmet, black with a clear visor, really comfortable, but no good for me as my glasses don't fit as well as they do in my other helmet. It was $280 new I think.....

Like I said I got a Shark S800 butterfly for the wife and she loves it: 4 star sharp rating, nice features, pretty quiet and $300 on sale (down from 420). (But I'm biased as I have one aswell although not the butterfly :shifty:)

More importantly, did your partner enjoy the ride???? Hope you didn't get stuck in traffic, and really hope you weren't that guy up North that crashed!!!!!!!

Yep, got a good Oxford full face Helmet from Cycletreads for $129. Has a SHARP 4 out of 5 rating, the same as my Shoei. And we went riding with it this afternoon (my first time carry a pillion!).

Yes she did. And no, we stayed around the North Shore. Need to spend time getting used to riding with each other first.

Maybe she will want to get her own bike after today?

I don't think that is her kind of thing. She just likes for going for rides on the back so far, but who knows about the future.

Good to hear that both you and your wife enjoyed the ride. My wife too like to sit pillon but never want a bike of her own. Cheers.

You are so damn lucky! My wife got her learners, and fell pregnant, so now she hates on me when I go riding cause she can't. And even if she was not pregnant, she would say that she wanted to go riding whenever I wanted to go. And who is going to look after the kids I ask you!??

And now she wants her own bike and I cant get a track bike until she gets hers, and she wont accept a half decent older bike-only the new flashy stuff for her thankyou... dont do it I tells ya!! :shit:

:bleh: I should never have let her off her leash.. :brick:
