View Full Version : Am I just unlucky or are Auckland cops arseholes?

About a month ago I was passing through Auckland on my way to Northland, during my holiday. Knowing the chance of meeting cops on the motorway was high, I kept it below 100kph.
On the toll road north of Auckland, where the two lanes merge into one to go through the tunnel, I tried overtaking a car in front of me before the merge. The cop was at the bottom of the hill but I didn't see him. He saw me riding for 5 minutes at least, under 100kph and speed up for 2-3 secs, then (when I noticed him) brake and drop back to 95kph. He pulled me over and ticketed me for 127kph (I'm not even sure I went that fast).
This weekend I went to Auckland to pick up a new bike - xr650. After looking at it, I decided to do a short test-ride. Being in the suburbs, I didn't think twice - just jumped on it thinking I will ride it to the corner and back. By the time I was back (1 minute ride) I had a cop on my back. The bike's rego wasn't valid anymore and it had no wof either.
After explaining to him all this, and the fact that I've just driven all the way from Wellington, I was tired and I just forgot to grab my helmet, he still fined me for no helmet. I know technically he could have fined me for no rego, no wof, etc, etc, but it was obvious I wasn't going anywhere and I wasn't a danger to anybody - just a ride to the corner and back.
Am I just really unlucky, or all the cops in Aucks are arseholes. And being pulled over in less than a minute somewhere in suburbs really freaked me out - it felt like they had been watching me all the way, waiting for me to do something illegal. All the way back (650kms) I've been watching my car's rearview mirrors expecting cops to pop up around every corner and from under any bush, pull me over and find something to fine me for.

Happens in every thread, bashing people who bash cops had become more common than bashing on cops!! (And i totally support this change :bleh: )

That is pretty unlucky - but being a licenced rider you should know the rules and can't complain when they are enforced.
Chances are you could do that 999 times and not get caught.

Spoke to a biker the other day at a stop, yes it was about being ticketed, he said '' we all know the rules eh mate''?
Certainly do, suck it up and stfu who really cares.

You don't need a 130k burst of speed to pass cars - just slide past them at the speed you are cruising at.
Wear your helmet.
Whats hard about that?

You're wrong princessbandit. It was not a lesson well learned. It just made me jumpy and instead of watching the road and traffic I kept looking in my mirrors and watching the sides fo the road for cops. From Auck to Welly there are so many temporary speed restrictions (that nobody obeys but you can get burned for) that you have to keep your eyes on the speedo all the times. Between mirrors, road sides and speed I wasn't left with any time for watching the actual road and the other cars.

Yeah, but did it make any difference to your riding? If so for the better then maybe it's been a lesson well learnt. It not then I don't think you're gonna learn anytime soon.lol, did I missread it or did he just say how safely he rode, only caught out by a short burst of speed (which I think all of us are guilty of at least once while passing), and his own decision, of his own safety? Yea, he'd better learn... I mean, how the fuck can we complain about this nanny state without contradicting it by scorning the personal decisions of others?

No cops, in general, are not arseholes. They are doing the job they are expected to do. But, like any large employer there is always the odd plonker in every job, just like any large membership internet website, KB also has plonkers.
Slow down in the Rodney District. It has a high rate of road deaths and injury/non-injury crashes and as such is heavily policed. For goodness sake wear a helmet and protect your cabbage.

Hey I've got on a bike and accidentally set off without a helmet on before.
It took less than 3 seconds to feel the wind against my ears.
The strongbraking effect as the ears dragged the wind was like driving a car with the handbrake on. So I turned around and got my helmet.
I don't believe anyone could actually ride for more than a few seconds and not realise they were not wearing a helmet. You then make a choice:
1. Faaark it, I'm not going far OR
2. Turnaround and get your helmet.
I forgot and didn't realise wouldn't get any simpathy from PC Plod as it is clear you are just taking the Piss.

Neither. Your the dickhead doing fucktard stupid antics, that wound you in trouble. You then take it one step further and come online to bleat on about it. Its because of idiots like yourself that the rego prices are going up and other retards ride their bikes at speed into wire barriers. Then everyone here call out foul and then try to blame it on someone else.
Your another reason why motorcycling these days, has become a big joke.

What the fuck does rego have to do with me riding without a helmet? Going to the corner and back I made 30kph or 40 at most. You can reach much faster speeds on push-bikes these days. When I do ride I always have proper gear on. This is why I got so pissed off - this was the first time EVER I've been on a bike without helmet.
You're talking out of your ass, especially considering that your signature is not quite on the same page with your post.
I see that I've started some kind of shit storm. Somehow, everybody loves the cops and got really infuriated by the fact that i've called the Auckland cops assholes. it's probably my mistake. I thought I was on a biker forum but I am clearly on some sort of PRO POLICE FORUM: whatever you do, do not diss Mr. Plod.
Considering that quite a few that have replied on this thread have bragged about their own antics (much more serious than riding helmetless to the corner and back) or complained about unfaireness of the police many times, I think this is very hypocritical. But that's ok. If you don't get any other satisfaction in life than talking bollocks here, be my guests: keep sucking your own dicks until they fall off, I don't mind.

You need to hook up with SPB, hes on the same blood trail (at least once a month) as you are.
If you feel so strongly that you were wrongly ticketed, write in and complain, dont waste your time on here doing it.
Cops are the same NZ wide mate, they enforce the law, thats thier job!
They dont care that you ''Normally'' wear all you gear, on this occassion, you were not.
Give yourself a slap and get on with it.

If it was the same cop that got you both times then you would have a point but it wasn't.
Its just a numbers game. More people = more cops = more highway patrol. But in Aucks and Wellywood there are approx. the same number of main roads to patrol eg 2 but more cops here to do it.
If you live here for a while you just get used to seeing cops all the time.

what I was trying to get across was that the cops hear lies and excuses on on a daily basis so need to just act on procedure really. Shit he got off with no reg or wof, maybe the thread shoulda been titled " Haha got away with 2 tickets today".
Who here would rather the cops got a lot more blaise about road safety issues? remember that there would then be more idiots on the road running into us.

As all the 250 riders seem to be saying, I guess he'd better sort his riding out before he does something worse:innocent:

I get very miffed at individuals that toot from 'behind'... Either back off or chill out IMO. The tooter normally makes irrational mistakes which have far worse consequences. ;
No you completely mis-interpreted the situation. He stopped, we sat there, I tooted (I did'nt lean on the horn....just a beep) He looked at me, I tooted again and he realised why and went.
Absolutely nothing wrong with that.......I know police make mistakes. You completely missed my point. I'm not digging at cops, or the driver, merely stating that i'd tooted and the cop carried on, as in cops are normal human beings......ie, not arseholes, in response to the op......
I dunno how I gave the impression that i'd done anything other than that. It's not like I flew up behind him and got all aggressive.
Oh yeah, IMO if you cannot handle a friendly toot from behind you when you are unwittingly blocking a lane, perhaps you are the one who needs to chill out.

If you are going to quote me, quote the whole lot mate.
It was you saying earlier about taking things out of context.
What he did was wrong, coming on here expecting back up was an even wronger thing (yes I know wronger is not a real word)I took nothing out of context, I just replied to a specific part of your post.
what I was trying to get across was that the cops hear lies and excuses on on a daily basis so need to just act on procedure really. Shit he got off with no reg or wof, maybe the thread shoulda been titled " Haha got away with 2 tickets today".
Who here would rather the cops got a lot more blaise about road safety issues? remember that there would then be more idiots on the road running into us.
And if he doesn't want people to comment how they feel , then why did he post it on an internet forum? ?????????
Needs to learn to suck the savI'm just responding to the trademark holier than thou (thats about the best description) "better clean your dangerous act up, sonny" posts that are coming out here for a traffic violation or two, and to make it better most of them are coming from new riders

The title of this thread has got me thinking about police head quarters.
It is generally accepted within the job that they can often fail to "get it right."
However for some time now they have had a policy of police officers reflecting the community they police, and your initial post and subsequent ones has proven they this policy is a success.

I think the police definitely need to give out more warnings (ie on file) because it causes a lot of hate towards police for things someone would never do again with a warning.
An obvious one is the helmet one. If he's got a big list of previous fines obviously he's got no disrespect for the law but if he's got 1 speeding ticket a talking to and written warning would have the same affect without the resentment!

How can you tell which are the new riders?

You see how hypocritical it is for you to talk about how the expenses of motorcycling have gone up, right? Not so long ago someone else here was accusing you of being a bad rider, resulting in another bad statistic and what I'm sure were quite a few riders fees being spent on you.
No its not you moron. I was riding a motorcross bike offroad. Go and get your facts straight, before you try to make excuses for doing some really stupid shit. With a comeback like that, is obvious that you thinks its ok to be a dumbarse. If it was not for dickheads with attitudes like that, the road would be a safe place to be. If I see some moron on a motorcycle doing obviously stupid and dangerous riding. I'm quite happy to wipe them out with my van, if they get in the way. However if I see motorcyclists having fun in a relatively safe way, I'll just wave. There are too many retards here that think that they can do what they want, when they want, on a motorcycle. Then some said retards come and bleat about being caught out, by the NZ Police. The reality of the situation is, you do the crime you do the time. Sounds like some people here just need to grow up.
Hahahahahahahaha!!!! You really expect to be taken seriously after posting that load of maggot manure? I don't know what world you live in, but mine is called reality. Like it or not, your the one who is talking out of their own arse. Grow up boy!

But I will say that it's a little strange you think it's okay to say (albeit piss and wind) you will "wipe" someone off the road for not riding in accordance to your rules. As for me thinking it's okay to "do some really stupid shit", many would argue that riding a motorbike isn't the smartest, so I just think people should get the fuck over it when someone else does their own thing such as not wearing the correct gear... Not sure how the fact that you were off road changes anything considering you still obviously had a fair amount of tax dollars your way, being your own reason that the "prices are going up".

Lets get one thing straight. You don't know me, nor does anyone here. There are some that knew me, but there is no one here that knows me now. I think you also need to read my post again, as you are implying things that my post does not state. Pretty petty and poor form, on your part. What I posted before was saying that if I see anyone doing dangerous shit on a motorcycle, thats likely to put other people in danger, I am likely to swat them with my van. I don't understand why you think that one person on a motorcycle, is more important than others who could be put at risk, by that individual's behaviour.
I see your able to take being a dickwad to an utterly new evolved level. Yes I have had tax dollars spent on me, so have many others in the past. Your just crying out your arse if you think that sort of personal attack is going to get you far. I also had open heart surgery as a kid, because without it, I would have died by the time I was 20 years old. The thing you need to realise, is none of it I asked for and all of what has happened was by the hands of others, legislation and moral standards. If you disagree with any of those, so be it, in fact I do also with some of it. But the fact is that you just come accross as a boy who is pissy about the fact that the $ well is drying up, that runs the system. So either build a bridge and get over it, or crawl under a rock and cry me a river.
Like I said previously, the truth hurts, which is why some people react this way.

Speaking of taking being a dickwad to a whole new level, you keep talking about growing up and getting over it, but it's getting dry from a man who spends his life 4 feet above the ground. I guess you're getting closer with the crawling bit, though. And talking about my "personal attack"? That was a personal attack. When I mentioned your rehabilitation, I wasn't trying to insult you, I was wondering how someone can criticize tax dollars going into others because of their behavior, when you've done that exactly, whether you were riding how you considered responsibly or not

I'm assuming none of you has ever ridden over 100kph or without a helmet in his/her life..
I ride without a helmet all the time. Every working day on the way home from work, I stop at the corner onto the 7km country road I live down, and if the weathers nice I take my helmet off.
I enjoy the sights and smells of the country, the wind in my hair, and being able to make some minor decisions about my life, and the things I enjoy. I do it just for fun.
I make decisions about risk all the time.
The DUMBEST thing I do, is riding a motorcycle. By any measure it makes me 18 to 30 times more likely to die on the road than if I dove a Volvo. My helmet, when I wear it helps. Its makes me 0.3 times less likely to die.
The dumb decision was hopping on the bike. The helmet is merely the lash in the gears.
So to all the "wear you helmet cos you might crash and cost me money for ACC" posters, just consider this.
The SAFEST way of motorcycling is wearing a helmet, by a 30% margin
The SAFEST form of transport is a Volvo, by a 2000% margin.
If you can prove that you must wear a helmet for safety regardless of personal choice, you have already argued that you should also drive only a car.

I always thought it was fair to pay the price (fine/demerits... whatever) if you got caught breaking the law.
I agree it's unlucky you got caught as frequently as you seem to have but the basics are there. You broke the rules, you got caught. Nothing unfair about it.

Looks like you will never learn, maybe let alone even understand.
The longer you want to keep it going is fine with me.
I'm in a wheelchair, this has nothing to with it what I'm saying here. I suspect that I've been around for longer than you and your the one who needs to be careful. As your the one who needs to make sure you don't end up some different shade of me. I don't recommend anyone try it, but that is up to you. Like everyone else I've payed my own way in life and not got upset when the price goes up.
If you can't afford the rego, how are you fill the tank and go for a good ride? With the amount of km I did in my lifetime, I sure as shit would'nt want to be paying the pump now. All registrations have or will increase, just as buying a new car or my rates will cost more. I don't like it either, but your still a twat. I guess your going to have fines to pay? Does that mean you no longer need to worry about the rego, petrol or the price of living in general? If you want to get on with it, do so. If you don't work hard enough to pay for everything, who is responsible for that? Perhaps this principle is the problem? Don't worry the current Government will make sure your working and I thank them for doing everything to making sure I can continue. Even if its far less than what I used to do and for far less time. Perhaps your crying over spilt milk, yes thats what one does at Kiwibiker.
What a joke, grow up and get over yourselves. Or not, but your the ones doing the bitching and you need to remember the majority of NZ are getting on with life and paying their way too. I would expect that many of them also own a motorcycle, hopefully own a R8. That is my favourite car at the moment it would piss all over any motorcycle in the places I used to enjoy riding. Although I know that I wouldn't enjoy the fuel bill, if I drive it the way I've been doing Nuremburgring on Xbox 360. Cannot say that I would like the repair bill either, with what I've been doing with some of the rides. The only place I can get my need for speed, although I'm sure it comes out for PC.
Did I tell anyone the price of living has and is going up? Yep, looks like you lot have noticed it.
