Is that the same corner where that ZXR meets a cop and lowsides?

edit: I think that was on sportsbikes.net I'll post a link when my "broad band" decideds to load

Yeah I saw that and in what seems like a pretty low speed crash. Makes you wonder about the road surface because none of them seemed to be going that hard.

interesting as the last two crashes,
ive managed to have, ive found other pieces of bike/car in the same corner

Jonno.
4th April 2010, 21:59
I've only seen the last two but [imo] they looked like they were both trying to get their knee down on an off camber corner and neither is hanging off ie huge lean angle for the bike aka less traction.

Common denominator - they are all sportsbikes.Of course it's the corner - how could the rider be to blame?

Seen this knob?
Are these guys using the road as there own track?
Listen to the comments when they get to the rider.

I blame the car for being in the way... fancy driving on a public road and getting in the way of a biker trying to be another Rossi!!! Just damn rude!

Just imagine sliding off the bike only to get one leg each side of one of those wooden posts under the guardrail.... ouch! Would be singing soprano for a while!

Sure does! Target fixation is a shocker.... damn hard habit to get out of. It is so easy to focus on what you don't want to hit. Having interviewed many drivers, they often confessed to having looked at the object they hit and invariably and literally drive/ride straight into it.

In the first vid it appears he loses the front end immediately after going across the change in surface. The front tucks and down he goes. In the second clip the guy is chopping the throttle quiet heavily suggesting everything isn't right for him in that corner, then appears to lose it through excessive throttle. The third guy to me (as all my comments are my opinion) once again just appears to be too hard on the gas exiting.

One thing I did notice as consistent with all the vids, was that the road just, well, lay there. It did what it was supposed to do, which is take you somewhere. And whether it takes you to your destination of choice, or to one you have no choice in (be it the hospital or morgue), the road is always dependable. Just laying there, doing it's job perfectly.

You can call me heartless or whatever, but I've seen the fourth clip before and I had the same reaction I did the first time. I watched again and again and again laughing at the clowns actions leading up to that crash. Passing a car on the outside in the outside lane with a guardrail 1m to your side and dirty pavement. What was he thinking was going to happen?

You can't go around the corner with your front brake hard on - one of the most common reasons people come off, panic and hit the brakes

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3mhXJiHluOg&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3mhXJiHluOg&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

The one on the blue bike who comes off; you can see as he's cornering he is actually leaning less than the bike - his body weight being higher than the bike - then his front wheel tips in? did he apply the brake?
Poor body position?

<object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VkalHQ6eRVw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VkalHQ6eRVw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

The guy on the white bike is in a better position, but I'm guessing his head and shoulders should be lower, then the bike doesn't have to be over as much - looks like a combination of light dust or crap on the tar and too much throttle at the wrong time

The real problem though is that they're all on the wrong side of the road

What he said. The road may have had a light dusting of sand on it making it slipperier than expected but then the other riders made it through.
The last guy just looks like he got target fixation after coming in hot ,gearing down to slow down and unsettling himself and bike.

Reminds me of a medium speed crash I saw online. I think it was an asian couple. The pillion was killed and torn apart between the legs after hitting the post under the guard rail.

When you have been there, it makes more sense that the majority of American riders cannot cope with a few corners.

We did a part of Route 66 including Oatman and Sitgreaves Pass. At Oatman we were enjoying the "town " life when a group of bikers came in from Sitgreaves Pass. The comments coming from the group were very interesting. We were about to do it and thought that it was finally going to be some roads to ride.
We really enjoyed the Pass as it was like home. There were actual corners instead of curves. One had to think instead of being on cruise control.

We would have liked to have stopped off at the Rock Shop (where the roads on the video are) but ran out of time.

An extremely dry and potentially dusty environment that can leave a fine dust on the road. Ride to the conditions.

Look at the difference in widths between the left lane and the right lane. The right lane is clearly smaller in the picture. To me that indicates that the camber has changed to off camber. That could catch anybody who doesn't look for camber changes. Throw in a bit of dust...

EDIT: I had a look at all the bikes that came off there- even the slow ones with no bad throttle control came off. It really does make you wonder if it is as simple as camber or dust - even dust would offer some grip. But in some of these, the grip just goes for no apparent reason. I seriously wonder if there is any dodgy substance on the road for the benefit of the cameras...

Nothing too serious? Holy hell, I'd be shitting myself sliding ever-so-ungracefully toward that barrier. Only takes one bad bounce and that looks like a pretty unforgiving drop on the other side...

and for the record, I think "rider" as my answer.

That last guy locked up his back wheel FFS.
They also seem as if they have bad riding position.
