License restrictions in the US

I require some information in regards to license policies in the US

Looking to travel there at the end of the year for approx 1 year.
I currently have a passenger car full lic. And a 6L. At the time of travel I intend on having my 6 Restricted.

In the US a 6L enables a rider to ride a 125cc. That I understand.
However when I am on a 6 restricted what restrictions will I have on me as the US do not differentiate between say a 250cc and a 1000cc?

Never mind the legal side of it. Try getting your compulsory motorcycle insurance on your 6L or 6R in the states.

Why dont you just get your full before you go? Then you dont have to worry about any of this...and just get whatever bike you want in US

Hard as it is to believe, there are no license restrictions in the US. Any 16 year old can get a license, and walk into a dealer and ride out on a ZX14/GSXR1K/etc. Well, actually, the 16 year old doesn't even need a license, since there's no requirement to have one before purchasing a vehicle. But I digress.

I'm not sure what you need to get the US to recognize a NZ license, but I doubt it's much more difficult than filing out some paperwork, and perhaps passing a written test.

If you go to the US you can legally drive on your NZ license. So the restrictions that apply to you for that license apply. Capacity limits, curfews, etc etc apply to you driving in the US with the NZ licence. But there is nothing to stop you getting a US licence.

Ask someone who would know the correct answer, like NZTA or the driver licensing authority in each state you plan to visit, as they can all have their own rules.

Just get a international driving permit from the AA, cost you $30 and is accepted in the USA..
