But it's not mine, this one is my son's new toy.

'89 GSXR250, $1000 off trademe, 30k on the clock. Hadn't run for a couple of years so took a chance on it, was sitting there with a flat battery and flat tyres. Got it home, drained the carbs and hooked up a battery, a total of about half an hour and it's running. Stilll needs the carbs stripped and cleaned, new battery and probably new plugs to get it idling properly. Then it's a winter project to dismantle and tidy up the broken plastics and give everything a good clean ready for some L-plating in the summer.

Yep, thought that so had a good look over them, they're cheap but look near new and are in pretty good nick.

So I have the baby gixxer out for a ride today, new battery installed and now it starts fine, and seems to be running pretty sweet. After a bit of a workout it's now idling, still a bit rough but better than it was, so I think a clean of the carbs and spark plugs should have it sorted. At least the boy can have a play on it now without it stopping, and if he stalls it he can make it go again. So now time to think about some tidying.......

I've done some researching on the interwebs, and it appears to be on it's second set of plastics and has a mixture of colour schemes, the tank and rear are from the black/red
203165
and the fairings from the all black
203166
So given that the paintwork on the tank is scruffy anyway, and the plastics not too bad, I think a repaint of the tank to black to match the fairings is where it's heading. After that a few repairs on the plastics and a bit of straightening to get the mounting holes and headlights to line up properly and it should be looking pretty good.

Nice buy, that model is second only to the rr model you've picked up a bargain eh.

I'm pretty sure this colour scheme was more common for '89 and better looking than plain black imho (except they had gold rims not white like in this pic)
