But Honda did is 7 years ago. I wonder why the hell they never bothered making it available commercially... God dam 4 stroke lovers....

wouldnt it be nice if more development was done... that article tells truth- more power, less weight, less moving parts, less emmissions, less fuel consumption, less heat...... what more could you ask for in an engine!!

Yeah, doing some sort of inlet/outlet valve makes alot of sense, though with direct injection you are left with the outlet problem only right ?.
I could have sworn I read an article that KTM were doing a full revamp of the 2/ for 2012, should be interesting if they are.

Yeah KTM is doing some cool development on 2 strokes with direct air injection. They said that the power is very linear much like a 4 stroke.

KTM is pretty much where its at i reckon, still developing two strokes, developing electrics, making pretty damn good two strokes as it is anyway, wonder if they have any job vacancies? :chase:
also, the exhaust pulses in two strokes now pretty much do the job of an exhaust valve anyway

the exhaust pulses aren't overly efficient.....

not fuel-wise, but they must be pretty good power-wise, if they weren't somebody would have put valves in em by now!

A valve will cost you weight & complexity, so I'm guessing the tradeoff until emissions were a concern was not worth it.
It'd be interesting to ride a 2/ with a similar power curve to the TXC, it'd be helluva handy if they could keep the "I will not stall" feature of 2/ :)

I am all for new 2t technology, however feel they are primo as they are , I realise its all about emmissions but I have read in an american mag that one container ship burning fuel oil produces more emmissions than all the 2 stroke bikes ever made. I dont know how correct this is, but I am sure the 2t dirt bike isnt as bad as it is made out to be.

Try an EXC 250 or 300 Hombre, I am still being blown away by mine, last weekend we climbed a super steep loose rooty hill with little run up and my little goat just climbed it in 2nd gear at about 2000 rpm, was tempted to knock it down but it just kept labouring up with a determined throaty purr. No flame outs... ever. then when ya open it up on the roads it was keepin my mates 450 at bay. it was a good day.
