On saturday went to patetonga mx track to practise with my son tim we were practising starts and as i was riding back my front wheel just kinda slipped out and down i went.. not fast.. but landed on my arm and shoulder .. had a pain in my arm and shoulder so went back to the car started getting worse so we packed up ...now pain was getting really bad and was in my chest so i thought ok might be a lung as i know what a heart attack feels like as ive had 2 this felt different ..by the time we reached the patetonga cafe i couldnt take it any more so we called an ambulance ...now it didnt take that long but it seemed like days.. took me to waikato where i promptly flat lined and they had to do cpr and shock me back then rushed me up for stent number 4 in my heart that all happened on saturday ..its monday now and im home feeling tired but alive .. thank god still gonna go to mx but just be the pit bitch from now on i will list my bike for sale soon ... and probably take up knitting ...lol..NOTTT ive really enjoyed my time on this forum and although i will still visit and post my riding days are over ... the wife says if i get back on the bike it wont be the bike that kills me it will be her..my thanks go out to all you great guys and guys on this forum to the 2 ambulance medics from nahtia and the waikato casualty unit and coronary care doctors and nurses

man thats some scary stuff, what caused you to flat line? you say just your arm/shoulder was sore at 1st , did your chest take a impact as well?

yep my chest did take a small impact ...but the reason i flatlined was my blood pressure dropped to almost nothing..possibly caused by to much gtn spray they are not to sure but luckily when they brought in the crash cart they found a tiny bit of electrcal activity still in my heart........and whats it like to come that close to dying well..i felt really dizzy then went into the most relaxed sleep i have ever had then sudddenly there were all these concerned faces calling my name..it actually took some time for me to believe what had happened .... it was the horrified look on my son tims face as they had not had time to clear him out of the room when all the action started...he said it was just like a scene out of .... ER.. thanks all you guys and gals ive still got my xr100 and will still rebuild that.... prity tired and some awesum bruises and a sore chest from the cpr

Good to see you made it. They say time heals.

FWIW my old fella put us thru something similar in January. He gave it all away but one pacemaker later he's back at work a month early and back on his bike. He is enjoying life again. You never know how you are going to feel when you get better. Good luck anyway.

Oh btw: don't give up biking altogether mate a cruise on a Sunday on a road bike is food for the soul as well!

Health is the only thing that matters in this life mate. Rest up and do everything you can to ensure a full and speedy recovery. Scares the shit out of you when this sort of thing happens for certain. Take care of yourself.

Glad to hear you are mending, isn't getting old wonderfull?

Just a suggestion, how about trials? I've just started learning those skills and it gives me a workout equal to thrashing the enduro bike........I'm not suggesting you put yourself in a positon of damaging your health further but there are options that still use the off road skills in a less damaging environment.

Take your time & heal well.

thanks mate ..its kinda weird but the heart attacks only happen when i fall off my bike ..i know...i..know dont fall off ..well its not that simple..because in my mind im a great rider ..but in actual fact im probably prity crap.. it must have something to do with the sudden surge of addenalin..the doctors cant tell me why its happening i do have coronary heart desease in this one artery and it seems like when i get a sudden shock like falling off my bike a bit of that plaque crap breaks off the artey wall and blocks the narrowed artery:shit:..i think if i even look at a bike my miss's is gonna ..well kill me ..lol

Mate bugger the riding - just spend time with your son & family- any way possible.

My mum had the same peaceful sleep experience when she went down & came back during a bypass operation. It is funny but kinda made me felt a bit reassured when she did pass away a couple of years ago that she wasn't in pain anymore.

Heal well my friend!!

10th April 2010, 21:39
yeah thanks ......i definately get the message.....im gonna miss it .....but im not prepared to die for it ..besides i still get to be pit bitch for my son and our mates at mx..so at 54 ive had a great many years riding and have enjoyed every one of them...theres nothing better than to jump on your dirt bike with your son for a nice fresh early morniing ride those times have been some of the best times of my life..as many of you will know theres no greater feeling than to be out riding with family or mates..so do as much as you can when you can..you will still find me at patetonga mx track and also cambridge mx track....i will be the guy helping my son tim prep his yamaha number 114
cheers Dave

Hell Laser, that's pretty alarming. Sorry to hear that. Can't help thinking the docs haven't been keeping a close enough eye on your pump plumbing. Why couldn't they pick this up or at least warn of this possibility beforehand? With modern imaging technology surely they can see the narrow bits and slip in one/some of those stents in advance.

Pity you can't just swallow a can of radiator flush (for humans) to purge the pipes.

laserracer
11th April 2010, 22:40
yep radiator flush for humans would be a cool idea...unfortunately its more that they wait until theres something amiss before they can act..and 9 times out of 10 the first signs i have are the signs of a heart attack..everyone is different though..ive met guys that have had heart attacks and didnt even know it they are called (silent heart attacks} and those suckers are very scary..because you carry on as normal and just suddenly die..at least i have plenty of pain as a warning sign....my doc did notice slight blood pressure increase a couple of weeks before my last heart attack but nothing out of the ordinary...We all had a great day at mx today i really enjoyed watching and just mucking about abit ..hey at least im alive

Hey laseracer,

Sorry to hear this eh, but there are heaps of ways to still be involved and a lot of satisfaction can be taken by being involved with events behind the scenes in trail rides and MX etc.
Help is always welcome from organisers everywhere and the knowledge you have would be an asset to any club.

Hey lazer I gave up Kart racing to pit for my sons kart racing and it was just as enjoyable as racing mate!! Much better than the hassle of trying to race yourself and pit for him as well.
I had a brand new $8,000-00 YZ250 motor Robert Taylor had modified for me ready to go in to a kart and it never even got on the track.
Me and BJ did 48 kart meetings in a year he got 2nd in the north Islands and 3rd in the nationals in his class. Always in the top 6 unless his oldman screwed his set-up, up. Its great fun being a father and son team mate, if he gets into serious racing you won't even have time to wonder why you aren't doing it! That was one of the best years of my life, the ups, the downs, the tears, the victories, bloody fantastic mate a bond that will never ever break! LOL!!!

Well I have just got out from Hospital, i had a similar sort of thing as what happened to laserracer happen to me, but in the end no where near as bad.
Doing the fun time MX on Sunday, during the practice session I had a little off not a biggie, just fell over in a turn trying to avoid the already fallen in front of me,
I picked my selfup and got going again, but felt alittle tight in the chest, but being the pig headed bugga I can be at times, I pushed on and did all the races, my chest
was feeling real tight and uncomfortable after the last race, but still didn't do anything about it.
Got home, everyone saying go to the Doctor, yeh Ill go in the morning, Doctors looks at me, why did you come here you should have gone straight to Hospital, he did some test, next minute Im under strict instruction to go straight to hospital to get someone to drive me or call an ambulance.
After all the poking and prodding they did, my heart was fine, blood pressure a little high but all in all sweet. Mussel a little tender around the chest/heart, still a bit sore now.
They had me on the treadmill, just to give the heart a good workout, before they let me go, just to be sure, came through flying colors,
Ive only ever had 4 broken Hearts, but we wont go into that.

As the Doctor said to me any chest pain or discomfort don,t muck around go straight to Hospital, better to be safe.

stretched the mussels in and around my heart, (i went one way the bike the other), I didn't let the handle bars go, trying to hold the clutch lever in so as not to stall.
