Thought I would give that website a crack to see if I was owed any money, as it turned out, I was...all $368.46!
Only takes a few minutes and you can go back 5-6 years, as it turned out, I was owed money for last year a the year before. So its in the bank now.

What Steve means is that you have now authorised them to be your tax agent and they will charge you each time. I had to ring IRD and then ring them to remove them as my tax agents. You can always call IRD anytime and have your tax reviewed.

Not for me - they might decide that I owe them gazillions of dollars...

Do it yourself on the IRD website - you don't need one of these guys to do it for you.

The trouble is, IRD have a nosey at your account when there's activity on it.
I had one of those shopping mall stall setups do it for me a couple of years back.
Result was "you're owed $200-odd bucks, which you have to accept cos we want our fee. There's a $700 bill for another year (final pay was cocked up), but IRD won't catch that"
Lo and behold, IRD sent me a shitty letter a couple of months later along the lines of "Give us some money or we'll kneecap you, dick"

yep - i never realised i had signed them up as my tax agent either. i did mine myself this year as i normally do then find out i get my cheque from taxrefunds with their fee taken out. rang then up and removed them as my agent easily enough
wonder how many people like me do there tax themselves but got them to check the past 5 years just in case then get charged for next years 'service'.

How do they do your tax without you signing any declaration? asking for trouble.
Not all online taxrefund service providers are equal.

Waste of money giving them commission for something you can do yourself on IRD's website.

Bling sent to Maha for starting this thread.
Just done mine and found out I am owed $300+ from 2008 and $3,000+ from 2006. Nice little surprise.
Just gutted I missed the 2005 cut off as I reckon I would have been owed some for back then as well.
Happy for them to take their fee out of it as I am inherently lazy and wouldn't have bothered seeing about a refund if it wasn't very easy to do.

Intaxication = The state of euphoria that accompanies a tax refund. It lasts until you realise that the bastards are giving back money that was yours to begin with.

It would seem that these guys are causing a few problems with accountants. Our accountant has given warnings of potential complications caused by clients losing tax agent status to Tax Refunds and the like.
There's still no such thing as a free lunch (or tax refund) !
