Nice ride thanks Clint & Rosie. It was great to meet and ride with similarly minded people. Great roads, great scenery - ah, it's nice to be riding NZ again :sunny: Looking forward to another one. I got home warm and near dry - The Sidi's let a little water through but not too badly considering that it got quite wet during the afternoon.
The bike gearbox seemed to develop some issues today. I'm going to check the spline on the gear lever and the shaft but I suspect I may have to look inside to resolve it. It was still rideable but wasn't going into gear sometimes. The only other issue I had was some rear brake fade/ loss of pedal through the tight stuff today. I did the 'ol sqeeeze the caliper trick that someone reminded me about and the seemed to go.
Now, food and sleep! :2thumbsup

Nobody was on corner man duties when we came down that real muddy and slippery road into the gorge. Kevin had dropped his BMW so we where on that raod for a while.
Anyway by the time we got to the Awakeri Shell satation no one was there, who was that last corner man.?

Thanks everyone-especially Clint and Rosie for a great weekend-the only down point being work today.Rode virtually all the way home in the rain with andy.No dramas except mufti car coming up behind me while about 20k over with lites and siren-then passing me and carrying on to Kawerau-Sweet. Hope everyone got home safely and that you didnt damage your BMW to much Kevin..Cheers...Keith.

Sorry about that. The cornerman thing became a bit patchy yesterday afternoon. You guys were in front of me at Taneatua, then there wasn't anyone manning the corner to go over the road rail bridge - did you go straight ahead towards Whakatane? We did a bit of a regroup at Awakeri, but it was hard to keep track of who was still coming with us, and who was peeling off towards Tauranga at various points.
I think we will need to organise that section of the ride differently next year

Big thanks to all who attended & made it a fairly stress free event!
Sorry to guys who got left behind around Awakeri yesterday, as Rosie says it gets a bit disorganised after Opotiki with people going different ways. Next year I think I will route sheet that section & ride sweep, then people can do as they wish without leading others astray. I might also route sheet the Waikaremoana - Journeys End section so the quicker riders don't have to do so much waiting around.
Looking forward to seeing more pics

Yes I had a nice slide down the slippery slope not going fast either, under the slurry the ground was rock hard bent the pillon foot rest but hey I am still riding and bike OK (Keith, only a bruise!), thanks Al for the help.
Pity re cornerman system broke down as we were both keen to ride the last leg from awakeri. Need to be better organised even though it was dispersion time.
Great to meet all the kiwiriders and thanks to Clint and Rosie for the hard work to make it happen. Happy to put pics on site or otherwise for anyone interested if someone can give me easy instructions.

Yep, the Advrider format is good for posting pics & trip reports, plus it's neat to be able to show the world what we did in the weekend. You upload your pics to a photo hosting site like photobucket or imageshack then write up the report on advrider, pasting in the links to your pics so they appear on the page.
Don't wait for me to start an MMMMM ride report on there though, get into it everybody. It'll probably be Wednesday before Rosie & I get sufficiently organised to post up our pics & being lead/sweep we missed a lot of the action anyway.

Hi Iain, sorry no pictures of Kevin lying next to his BMW, that road was slippery and he went down so quick, he had done a complete 180 spin and was facing me:shit: so quickly jumped off and helped him pick it up. Would have been good to ride home with you, as I was riding along I was thinking about were you had got to after Awakeri? Probably couldn't see you at the gas station because of the rain, was that the one on Welcome Bay road?

Thanks Clint & Rosie for another great MMMMM ride - special thanks to Rob & Ann Sherman of Journey's End for the their hospitality - enjoyed the ride this year on my Bimmer - great to have big bike friendly rides - highlights for me were the Forest (did it in both directions - very slippery going from Minganui to Rangitaiki on Sunday in the rain), Waikaremoana and the Motu.
Journeyed home from Rangataiki via Westshore where I met up with Howie, AndyMac and Bart. Shared a cabin at Westshore with Howie last night
Great food at the Westshore Pub last night and Groove Espresso Kitchen in Napier this morning.
Rode on parts of the Eastern Coastal route with Howie - on beach from Aramoana to Blackhead with the tide just going out.
Great riding - great company - replete - cheers Aslan :scooter:

Shortly after this photo was taken (and just as I'd put my camera away darn) there was a gentleman that made a sliding entry to the turn off to the pub. You know who you are, but as there's no evidence it's hearsay right?
The steak dinner at the pub is recommended!

Hi Iain, sorry no pictures of Kevin
Would have been good to ride home with you,
I think we all need helmet cams for the next trip so the evidence is undisputable, a certain KLR and Husqvarna stopped following me for a while near the coast but denied having gone shrub cutting (I have my suspicions but no evidence). :shifty:
I was stopped past Welcome Bay almost in Tauranga proper and ended up back tracking over the Kaimais, it was certainly unpleasant riding until I got close to Auckland.

The road from Taupo out to the start was very foggy and cold. Cold enough for the moisture to freeze on the front of bikes and jackets and the 950 drop to one cylinder not long before we arrived at the pub.
That is a coincidence, I was running on one when I arrived at the pub also!:
I finally made it at 0832, obviously to an empty car park, what time did people actually head off?

Ooooh, an opportunity to shred Rogers paddock, I'm in! :Punk:
On a more serious note, this is a good idea but you want bikes with proper knobblies for traipsing around on wet grass, the usual adventure tyre will just have you slipping over all over the place. Be worth doing this on trail bikes, if there is enough interest (and time / dates dependant) I can bring down the 200 and 250, otherwise you are better off on a dirt / gravel road practising braking and cornering on your adventure bikes with someone that knows what advice to give, maybe a n00bs ride around the Raglan area is called for?

It's good that you're interested, cos you're a better rider than me & you should be the one giving the lessons
I happen to know where there is a short gravel track where those interested could go round & round all day if they so wished. Plus the MX track & enduro loops. In Reporoa. If we were having an adv training day there sometime in summer would probably be a better idea though as then the adv bikes would be able to make it around the enduro loop.
Rex's place is near Matata he was also keen to have a training ride day there at some point.

Rex's site at Matata has some quite testing tracks , certainly way more demanding than a paddock , it would be a very good place for improving your adventure riding skills.
I've been through it with Rex in a 4x4. I'd take the Scram if it was dry & I had some EO9's or the like , guys on bigger adv bikes would certainly be challenged , it would be a steep learning curve for some. I'm sure Rex would still be keen to try & organise something

Given the bits of broken plastic in my shed that used to be around my tank before I ran out of talent, I think I'd be up for some gravel tips. Dry gravel was OK over the summer but the wet stuff was a different proposition.
Please make it a big obvious thread if it gets planned in. :Punk:

I do actually have some. But they are certainly more suited to beginners. Think small, and limited tracks. About 40 acres. Iian would get bored, but Roj and his lady could get a bit of challenge in places, as there are hills with tracks on, and some good small practice areas. My kids like them.
However they are pretty wet at the moment. Some pretty good mud practice, so more weight training than bike riding. Not fun carrying a bike.
However I am only about ten minutes out of town, so will PM Roj, and let him know when it is better.
I also like the idea Rex was talking about. Don't know his place though. In fact any single track type riding appeals to me. I am up for anything like this in the Hamilton area. Or further afield for that matter.

yeah mate thats the one, i always head over there to avoid the divi hill,
its good for a play like just after work or when times short, im normally back within an hour.
sometimes i'll head into the industrial area behind placeys, harvey norm area and have a play on some of the gravel carparks (figure 8s etc) theres a little area down a dead end road there that has a play area, some guys trailer to it on there MXs, its all good for 10-15 mins while on your way to the base

Methinks it was Rex I was speaking with, will need to catchup and discuss further:2thumbsup

chain was so slack I was really pushing it riding it like that - back wheel too for that matter! New chain and sprocket has turned up, waiting on lens and tyre and she's good as new.
Looking round yep :yes::yes::yes: something with knobs on, better suspension and a wee bit more power.:wari:

Going to check it out again this weekend hopefully & see what the way around looks like now. Also need to sort out Sat night accomodation as there is now a family living in the shearers quarters we have used. Likely date is 2-3 July.
Cheers
