The new Roadster is a gem. Improved cornering clearance via mid controls, much better sounding exhausts stock and stripped down to a style that is more 'speed triple' than de Ville.

Corners and throws around very nicely for the size of the thing (perfick for BD types) and the top gear roll-on is a thing of rare beauty.

Will post up some more pics on the KR site over the next few days.

Ah awesome awesome bikes! i would love to ride one, although id probably crash it within two or maybe even three meters. but one day when mum sez im cool, my garage will include one! I've always loved that picture of some guy wheelieing one of these dam things, mad respect!

Dunno if it's stripped down to be light enough for a weakling like me to ride.I always imagine myself bungling the sidestand and ending up lying under 800kg of motorcycle.

It's only with your feet on the ground that you would have any trouble.
When it's going it's all very predictable. There's a lot of it, but it all behaves like it should.

'I didn't know they made them in 250's' Motu said when he saw me on a R3. They are a delight for us economy sizes. It doesn't look like it's disappearing up my date.

Hmmm, wonder if they would like to trade a Tiger, excellent condition, one lady owner! :shifty:

I think that they are not so much motorcycles, as motors with wheels. Like someone had a motor on a workshop trolley and said - "let's just connect a drive train, some controls and be done with it"

I'm sure they are great bikes, they just look frikken scary!!1!

are these bikes considered hard to ride? i got nine months till my full then i reckon a couple years before i start getting into the higher cc bikes... but do you have to be a monster to ride them?? im 5,10 around 80kg so should i keep headin to the gym haha. I know a guy in Palmerston North who went from a Hyosung 250 cruiser to a big fat assed Halrey Davidson "FLHT" Electra Glide as his next bike. He now rides a Triumph Rock III and seems no problem. You can too, so the question is why not?

Sweeet unit isn't it - the new R3 will be reasonably OK for the compact rider too - saddle height is quite low.

What's the riding position like? Is it cruiser (feet forward, like the Thunderbird) or more upright?

I loved the Thunderbird (beautifully balanced) but it nearly killed my back in one ride! :shit:

I did 200km on it around the Northern Waikato this afternoon.

What lotto numbers did you say???

It's fantastic. Did Rangiriri to SH22 and up that way home and only scraped the pegs once. Wasn't hammering, but wasn't mucking about either.

Engine, gearbox, drive all first rate. Smooth strong and the definition of 'grunt'. It gave me some inkling of what a really powerful electric motor must be like - twist the throttle at 100kph - 2,200rpm - and it just surges on the 164nm of torque.

It uses a lot of fuel and the rear tyres are over 4 hundy - you'd want to be a bit cashed up to run one as a full timer. But ferk me - it's *blowing me away. What a ride.

* Cliche statement used for comedic effect.

What lotto numbers did you say???

The thought was of an unlikely performance vehicle. The Brooklands is very big, very heavy, very British and just shouldn't go like a Porsche! 0 - 100km/h in 5sec and a top of just on 300km/h from a pushrod V8 auto with every luxury item they can squeeze into it including the 16 cowhides for the interior upholstery.

Mr Bloor is making some bloody fine motorcycles, I know that much.

Had a burn on a new standard Bonneville last week while the Rocket had a service, Bonne with the 17" wheels - white one, fitted with the Arrow exhausts. It's one of the best 'step-up from a 250' bikes on the market I reckon. Up with a SV650. A really sweet - middleweight unit. They have proved pretty bullet proof and it's just a joy to ride.

Before that I had a New Tigger and that is a gem of a bike now too. The gripes I had about the suspension have been addressed with the inclusion of Showas all round and it's got what may be the best road bike engine ever.

And this Rocket is a blast (guffaw) - for a big bloke like me, it's just a delight. A large motorcycle with a 'normal' riding position - there isn't many of them - and the way it goes when you roll it on is stiffy material.

no fucking around aye! That's a big move for someone's first 'full licence' bike, the biggest mutha production motorcycle in the world! I can see how you're tempted, but it might not be the wisest move for someone coming off a 250. You might need the 200/month from the missus to pay the tickets.

I took a Rocket 3 touring for a hoon late last year. The only bike that's really intimidated me, especially as I had to do a u-turn within the first minute of riding it, lol. Oodles of grunt, and absolutely no buffeting, due to the large front fairing. The only negative was the vibeyness above 120kph, and on deacceleration. I guess with a motor that big, a few vibes are unavoidable.
Otherwise, I'd quite happily ride one on a trip somewhere. Super smooth sweetspot @ 100-120 kph. Pretty cool!

Like a Rolls Royce. If you have to ask....

+/- 200km to the $32 tankful - depending on wrist-work. The roll-on surge is so intoxicating I tend to slow down just to wap the throttle and get back up to speed. Doesn't take long!

Bit of restraint on a Touring gets you 280-300km / tank quite easily.

Interesting. I use 'when the warning light comes on' as the reference. 230 is the best I have got from a Tourer - and that was with a conscious effort to be efficient around the Coromandel.

I've seen it come on at 180km when tailing sportsbikes (which they do pretty easily).

Oh, the warning light? That's pretty conservative, comes on with 75km-ish to go. The trip computer on the Touring is pretty useful, you can run it down to 0 with some confidence, although the last 80km sometimes turns out to be 70km when you look at how far you've actually travelled.

And yeah, enthusiastic application of the right hand can see you get a 250km tank fairly easily.

I bought the Touring version in April this year. Have done 7000kms so far. It is perfect for me and the wife for long rides and touring.

Contrary to popular belief, it handles better than most cruisers (better than my old VTX1300 at least) and the ground clearance is better than most too.

The torque and accelleration at low revs is EPIC and with a few tweaks you can add 15-25 extra HPs - not that you really need to.

It is definitely rides like a bike and is NOT just an engine on wheels.

Lovin it and can't weight till summer when we can do some serious miles.

Bike shop didn't disclose everything I suspect, anyway took it back and swapped it for a Speed Triple.
Would own another Rocket, the new Roadster is a different beastie again, handles better, and looks the part too. Heavy, but manageable if respected.... I did a wheelie on my Rocket, but not as impressive as the one in this post... Far out... go hard or go home.

Hell, what do you call serious miles? 7000 kms in 3 months, that's pretty serious kays to me. I've only managed 6000 in 9 months on my Bird. It doesn't get used at all during the week though because of a company car.
