Hi, I've not ridden for a few years and my first opportunity is this Sunday. I used to ride sandpit a lot and love it up there. I see riverhead have some event on Sunday, & that it may be last one of the season. I've never been to riverhead.
Is it a race/ competitive ?
Any comment which might be best for me for this Sunday.
sandpit ten bucks cheaper, whatever.
Thanks

Riverhead ride is just a trail ride.
The sandpit will be a bit soft and wallowy at the moment, not much rain.
The riverhead rides tend to be rather technical , wheras the sandpit has much greater variety of tracks.
So if you haven't ridden for a while and not yet used to the bike, maybe the sandpit would be a better choice, soft landings are much more forgiving than hard clay.

Try riverhead...It's not the usual "riverhead" ride, it's a family trail ride so there is a variety of terrain available and as it's been as dry an arabs arse up there the usual mud and slush fest won't occur.
If your not sure of the level of skill needed then how about Mr Motorcycles ride at Naike, that is a guaranteed family friendly ride and really good fun if your just starting back.
The Sandpit is good but when it's this dry you need to maintain some speed to enjoy it, maybe not the most restful way of getting back into off road...

No, its not about the income or lack of it. Thats never been what we are about. Its getting peeps on bikes and enjoying it.
Riverhead and Waitemata MCC are firends ( I know you are lookin Billaroo) I just think now we have had some rain that Woodhill would suit better in this situation.
As far as marketing goes. Looky here.
We had a recce for the Jolly Roosta Trail ride on May 2nd. Boy do we have a track and a half for you. Stay tuned and bring your camera .

good stuff was mint last year, you going to have the farm land bit in it?
The Jolly roosta would be great for all levels......as for sandpit or riverhead, I'd probably go for sandpit for a first ride in a while, safe, fun, and forgiving. Having said that riverhead is good too!!

I did think....for at least a nano second!
I'm not knocking the Sandpit Tony, it's great venue and one I enjoy but if he hasn't been on a bike for a couple of years I thought a hard surface would be better than a sandy surface so provided two options which I thought would be better for him.
I bet that rain has hardly created a puddle anywhere north of Auckland......

We went out to the Sandpit on the weekend and I was pleasantly suprised by how good the tracks were given how dry it has been-most of the return tracks seemed to have a good firm base on them and weren't too 'fluffy' at all

if i could i would do woodhill on sat (which i am) then riverhead on sun but thats the road bikes turn.
both places are good at the moment so i don't think it matters and it would come down to preferance.
