I am a bit drunk, but i will say this

I am impressed by the engines suzuki makes.

I have had a fair few suzuki's, and they have all been pretty reliable, my GSXR 1000 had 60km on it and i raped it alot and it always went well.
finish and electrics have always been a bit of a weak point, but overall my GSXR's, DRZ's, DR's, UZ's, GN's, GS's, and of course the TF 125 RR have been a great source of fun and just so thrashable and tough...
aint snapped a frame yet BTW!

I have had a bunch (and still do) TS and TF 2-strokers. Never had one die on me.

Picked one up that had been lying outside for a few years. Was rusty and shit. Emptied tank, carby, and motor. Filled with new stuff, pulled behind the car for approx 2 k's. She started to give some signs of life. After some more pulling she was running. We used her for 6 months on the beach and she was fun and fast. never opened the carbi or the motor...

Add to that the NZ250's we had. Apart from an issue with the CDI's they run like stolen!

Here Suzuki I would not mind...: http://www.trademe.co.nz/link.aspx?i=12145&id=282782315&t=cas&s=362372&c=57

Metal qualities, tooling and engineering tolerances these days means there is no excuse for a dodgy motor.

The only complaints I've read about with the SV motors are a tendancy for the camchains to sound a bit rattly as the chain stretches and / or tensioner doesn't do its job.

They are the best bike as far as I'm concerned - even have a tattoo to prove it! - So I'll never change brands. Stick to what you know and reliability counts for everything

My RMZ ran for 5-10 mins with little or no water - radiator joint burst during an enduro race, and I still haven't had any problems yet
The FXR got the bare minimum of maintainence and delivered when it was used every week day and most weekends for the 19 months I had it.
Haven't had the GSXR long enough to say.

FTR Have also had 2 Kawis, 2 hondas and a yammy in years gone by

Only had my Bandit 8 months but it's never caused me anything but joy (apart from having to replace the battery two days after I bought it ... not the bikes fault).

Shame they don't take as much care with the rest of the bike.
How much would it have cost to blow the swarf out of the head stock before fitting the head bearings, and just think, with the weight saved they could put the second seal in the wheel bearings - mind you 5 cents is 5 cents and who really cares when most of them are written off in 10,000 km anyway.

And the crank case knocking sound that plauged some bikes.

Your not telling anything new to anyone about suzuki motors and gearboxes.
Nearly all bikers realize that Suzukis have great engines. I Never had any electrical issues either btw
Suspension is the one area they dont match some of the european stuff.
That can be sorted with a few extra $ though.
I still don't know how Suzuki offer their bikes new at such good prices.
hey they cant make it up on servicing and spare parts, looked after, they rarely go wrong.

That suzukis are so common is only a testament to their value for money. If Ducati's were good value/worth what they cost, you would see them everywhere -> but you don't.

Not so sure.....The big story I heard last week in CH Ch is about the poor bastard who bought a 'mint' '06 'Busa with only 20ks on the clock and it's done the big end and primary drive gears and the list goes on. This was about three weeks ago. The Bikes been dismantled by the shop and repaired but the parts bill alone is north of 5 K . Evidently the original owner did the most of his 9000 kms in top gear at low speed and left it there for overtaking and the 50kmh stuff, loading the motor big time . Unusual to hear of a 'Busa motor shitting itself though and surely it should have coped with that = True Story

This illustrates why it is important to check out who owned it. One careful lady driver doesn't cut it for cars and certainly not for high performance engines.

Actually as someone thats owned a few in my time "spending money" was obligatory, that or i guess i could have just pushed them about.I am all for ride what ya like blah blah blah but as someone who over the years has owned a shitload of bikes of many different brands feel ive answered most questions i have ever asked myself about bikes bar 1 which is why if a bike is purely for road use would anyone spend Ducatis asking price for there top end bikes when theres the same if not better performance available for far less dosh.?Name on the tank?jesus be a whole lot cheaper to buy a decal and stick it on whatever, sound?surely not if it was about sound we would all be riding Bevel drives. Will admit though that even Ducati seem to be waking up to the fact that most people that purchase motorcycles ride them in the real world ie 848,Suzuki worked it out many years ago with the GSXR750,racing aside i guess they to figured there was plenty of vain buggers in the world so saw a huge market for the inline 1000s.
