In June 2009, thirty riders on 50cc scooters traversed the South Island, on a mid-winter charity ride that raised over $14,000 for the Cancer Society. The route was from Air New Zealand’s hangar at Christchurch airport to Hokitika. The ride’s trigger was a work colleague of the Air NZ engineer organisers being diagnosed with cancer, and after his recent surgery and treatment, he will ride this year.

On Saturday 29 May 2010, it all happens again.

The purpose of the Safari is to raise money for the Cancer Society, and many more riders are expected this year, including Air New Zealand’s bike riding CEO, Rob Fyfe. If his schedule allows, he will cross the Southern Alps in company with the enthusiastic team - Mike, Jayne, Ben, Wayne, Damion, and as many other scooters that can be mustered.

Yea man - I am borrowing a scoot off a friend and putting it on a trailer and driving to CHCH. Signed up this morning adn have $400 donated already. Such a good cause.

there's about 5 from my work in Hamilton heading down - bikes got shipped out today thanks to generous backloading by Mainfreight.
