I have noticed that not so many people these days flash on-coming trafic to warn them of police or cameras that they will soon be coming up to.
I have always done it and am very pleased when people do it to warn me. Just wondered what the general opinion is amongst all of the good folk on KB

I admit to being a bit two-faced on this.. I try not to be, but can't really help it.
I'm thankful when people flash me to warn, but then I sometimes don't flash for other cars. But (before the pitch forks come out), only if they look like they're doing a stupid speed or boy racers/fukwits who deserve to be caught.. Always flash other bikes. And cars if they 'look' ok..

Like a bloody christmas tree. Except boy-racer cars, 4WD's, cops.
Flash for all bikes, Flash for people that are speeding abit over the limit - because a speeding cage is fucken more dangerous than a bike. (by speeding I mean 150+ not 110/120/130)

Good to see the poll has a good majority doing it.
I always appreciate having the warning.

I flash most of the time, I dont' like flashing boy racers and nutters on the road. Definitely flash bikes and the greater majority of cars. :niceone: :niceone:

Flash for people that arent speeding
But what would be the point? Isn't the whole purpose of flashing to warn them so they slow down??
I flash most of the time when I'm driving a cage but rarely flash when I was on a bike

TazI still see it happening alot, sometimes I partake and sometimes I don't. What I really hate is when some punter flashes his lights at you, causing *mild paranoia* if you're riding/driving over the limit, and then there turns out to be no cop or camera further up the road!

Yep flash all the time. If I can save someone a dollar so be it. But on the other hand if I see some hoon driving like a maniac and I get his number sure as little green men living on the moon he will be getting a letter from Mr Plod about his/her driving.

Same. There is so many cameras around these days it gets a bit monotonous. If it is in and around town where you shouldnt be speeding I am less likely to flash - miles from anywhere always flash.

I know a cop that does that when he is off duty/in his own car, to get people to slow down.

And thats the point, alot of cops don't actually WANT to give you a ticket, they want you to slow the feck down. (However stupid and repetitive you think it is, speed does kill). Thats also why most cops endorse radar detectors, as they tend to slow drivers down.
I'm sorry, but I don't agree with flashing SOME cars and not others. I flash everyone when I see a possible trap. Just like I'd like to be flashed by a boy racer if HE/SHE see's a trap coming my way. I don't care who saves me a ticket, I'll take it :niceone:
JUST for the record, I don't normally speed. When I do, it's on my bike which is on the weekends the majority of the time (out in the quite roads like  ).
I only flash for yamaha's :sly:

I can live with that :msn-wink:

Good on you for restraining yourself from speeding SC...most of the time anyway. :msn-wink:
must agree its good to get a warning that there is a speed trap ahead, makes you look at your speedo anyway, and likewise i do the same to others, but is it a traffic offence to warn oncomming motorists? anyone know for sure?

I flash on a regular basis, I have the pvc raincoat, and a park that has lots of old ladies walking through it nearby.
But what would be the point? Isn't the whole purpose of flashing to warn them so they slow down??

read above your post.
edit: edited original post for those who dont read the entire thread.
For other bikes sometimes wave the finger in the air.
Bit of a bugger flashing in my bike though - it doesn't have a passing switch, only hi/lo.
I gotta say the shock therapy seems to be working....
Yes - I also dangle my genitalia in the face of oncoming traffic, irrespective of what vehicle it is. I'm not fussy ya see. That was the question - right?
As for speeding - I don't do drugs. Often.

That does happen, but remember some flash you coz theres a cop travelling the same direction as you!. Truck drivers are a good indicator of were plod may be hiding (some truckies are a bikers best friend on the open road).

Was coming back from Paraparaumu via Piecock hill on Labour weekend when we got to a bit of the road where people where flashing furiously at us, and waving their hands, sadly I wasn't going fast enough to be worried, but just up ahead was a mufti car with a radar gun so if I had been speeding I would have considered myself very lucky to be warned....

That they are mate, exspeciay on long runs via the interstate. (or SH1 here in NZ) Must be something to do with being a group of peaple that are on the road for hours on end.

I've decided that flashing is not enough any more - i've started mooning. Flipping the leg over to the pillion pegs and dropping the dacks at oncoming traffic.
Just be careful you don't get the leatherman caught on remount.
yeah i flash.

Used to, but stopped about 12 years back. I figure people need to learn by their mistakes, and if you go nursing them along the whole time, they may never learn.

I grew up and learned to drive when this was the norm, and for me at least nothing has changed. A little bit of courtesy still goes a long way on the roads and when no-one gives a rats arse any more about the other road users we will all be that much poorer for it.
We also used to flash people to warn of any other hazards like cattle or accidents on the road. Just polite really.
