Interesting take on the "new zealand as a state of australia" argument that came up again recently.

As a pom/ NZ resident myself I can concur. At times New Zealand seems embarassed about its small population but that is one of its main strengths.

They were talking about it on Q + A a few weeks ago... the NZ Reserve Bank fella muttered something along the lines of it not happening over the next decade, but he expected it to happen over a generation... Vague recollection, but am pretty sure that's what he said. But as per usual the driver behind it is $$$... typical...

I prefer Hoarestralia to Newstrailia

Very disappointed with Simon Schama. His traditionalist's view of NZ as Little Britain with a bit of brown thrown in is somewhat archaic, and completely ignores Polynesian and Asian influences in the way NZ will change in the very near future. It won't be Australia we "join". We'll be forced to link ourselves economically to either India or China in the next 50 years. Australia will remain part of a diminishing sphere of influence made up of the EU and the US while we make an abrupt turn in another direction. The first steps have already been taken in that regard.

As long as we don't end up with the dumb-arsed Aussie gun & modified vehicle laws.

And feesh & cheeps.

The call is for a common currency and stock market - not a common culture.

Same with Fush and Chups.

My opinion of Schama has dropped markedly.
Imagine, being impressed by Paul Holmes. He must've been on the drugs.
