My yz has quite a lot of engine noise... not a graunchy noise or anything, just the standard rattle type noise a 250 makes when idling but it seems much louder than mates bikes. Rebuilt 40 hours ago, main bearings were replaced big end was fine. Not too worried about it as it has been like that since before the re-build but i wonder sometimes when im a couple meters away and all i can hear is the engine

Does it get quieter when the clutch is pulled in?
My bike has quite alot of clutch noise, kind of like a whirring noise, but thats normal for the gasgas' to do that.

yeah the clutch accounts for a little but even with the clutch in its still louder than a clapped out 04 rm

Could be the pv arm rattling at low rpm, does it go away as revs increase?

you may be able to localize the noise to a part of the engine with a bit of garden hose, one end to your ear, and poke the other round the engine, tis a bit of a huckory method, but often produces results!
