Hi All. After 6 years of trying, 9 months of preparing and 40 hours of labour our baby boy Oliver arrived. We are currently having the fun and games that all new parents have but we are doing well. He's been promised a bike as soon as he is big enough :scooter:

Good on ya Ryan, welcome to our world!. Hope the lil' fella is sleeping/feeding/pooing well, and you guys are managing to get enough sleep.
Your future riding over the next year or two will be about quality, not quantity, when Mrs Cooney say's "you need to go for a ride", don't turn the opportunity down!

Cheers, CF

....Sooo... Has he been on Griffon yet?

LOL was thinking about the pannier shot this morning. Might get into just a little bit of trouble at this stage. Still trying to catch up on sleep, get the house sorted etc. Only came home yesterday.

The length of labour is a hotly debated topic in obstetric circiles. We were 40 hours from first real contractions to birth but only 16 hours from beginning of active labour to birth. Many midwives etc consider labour to be from active labour to birth only but its a bitch to be told that when you have just spent 24 hours in latent labour not being able to sleep and having contractions every 20 mins. My mothers an old skool midwife (64 now) and gets really pissy at other midwives who tell their clients that they are not in labour even though they have been at it for some time. I can see her point cause even the latent labour is a lot of work.

The other thing I want to say to explain things a little more - Ollie is a IVF baby hence the 6 years to conceive. We had all but given up on babies which is why we bought the Super Tenere and then the KTM 950 Adventure as distractions as it was a pretty tough time for us. If anybody out there is reading this and is having similar trouble the one thing you really have to keep in mind is "No regrets". Dont do anything you will regret in 2 years or even 30 years. The bikes were a good distraction and we almost gave up, but trying to imagine how we would feel when we were 60 if we had not done IVF kept us thinking we must do it even if it is hard. The emotional roller coaster than we went through was very tough. Still sitting here right now with Ollie sleeping on my chest is awesome.

Ryan, congrats to you & your wife. We also went through IVF, & agree it messes with your head. Good that your persistance paid off & you had a result.:cool:

Well done Mrs CooneyR & support crew of course!!
Going thru all the IVF will make you even more grateful of the lil bundle of burps & runny poos.

We too tried for many years & found out we were pregnant 1 week before both of us were to do the Coast to coast & 3 weeks before our 1st IVF consultation. That's the first lesson we learnt about babies- nothing goes to plan.

Best wishes from our whanau

Congratulations to you both - really pleased for you both - especially after the trials you explained that you both encountered along the way - as always I'm sure what you shared about your IVF experience will be of encouragement to some other couple! Enjoy - my kids are both adults now 34 and 32 - sadly they grow up way too quick - make sure you enjoy them - they're only lent to us for a time - cheers Aslan :)

Congrats man. Great choice of name also. We didn't go through IVF, but it took us many years to get our little Ollie (now 2 1/2).

Wait until he becomes your little shadow. Great value, but keep your tools out of reach.

Hi Ryan,

Huge congratulations to you both - been wondering when we would get this post!
Welcome to the ranks of the non sleepers - now, I imagine, more of a case of "karitane yellow butt" than "dusty butt"?

Thanks for sharing this Ryan. The memory of having a baby asleep on my chest is a precious one for me, and I spent quite a bit of time with our eldest just lying on the settee doing exactly that... She's 16 now and arguing about rock concerts on a school night, so the reminder of that quiet, connected time is very welcome!

Congratulations to you both and enjoy your Small Boy Challenge!
