My company is looking for a new Photographic/Digital Imaging Technician.

· Experienced in a scanning or digital production environment<o></o>
· Experienced in colour and b/w printing in a production environment<o></o>
· Proficient in the operation of both Macs (primarily) and PC’s (a plus)<o></o>
· The ability to “read or interpret and image” and make efficient decision about colour and tonal corrections<o></o>
· Able to recognise digital defects or unwanted artifacts in an image<o></o>

· Understanding of film<o></o>
· Disciplined R & D skills<o></o>
· Leadership potential<o></o>

Sounds good, except the part of working with Macs. That would be enough to put most people off.

Actually the job entails Macs, PCs and the occasional *nix computer. Grow up dude. It ain't about the OS. We use the best tools for the job. If it happens to be a Mac then so be it. All the high end scanning equipment ($100K+ scanners) use a Mac. I'll work on an Amiga if it gets best results - hang on I have before (Avid VideoToaster). Sheesh. Next you'll be telling me Harleys are shite.

I've got nothing against Linux, I've just started using it myself and so far so good.. There is just nothing that great about Macs. If a Mac can do something, then Windows or Linux can do it better.

Oh pahleeeease - we're talking about imaging. Imaging professionals use macs. For a lot of reasons. Mostly sourced from more than 10 years ago when only macs had colour sync software and their existing infrastructure from those days. There's been no reason to change it.

They all run the same hardware now, it's merely case of what shiny buttons do you like best and the user interface.

The interface of Windows XP is much better than any Mac OS as well as being more functional at the same time. And it's just the fact that Macs are gay. It's like a guy driving a pink Honda Civic and then trying to explain to everyone that he doesn't touch himself at night over the thought of other guys.

It's about using the right tool for the job, as BD says 10 years ago almost the only tool that could do the job were Macs. The whole fanboi thing doesn't cut much mustard in the professional world.

Oh, and to add a twist of irony to your world, if you like how *nix works, you may want to have a closer look at what *nix and Macs have in common.

I still find Linux easier to use than Mac. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04, and I'm loving it. The fact that it's open source is even better. Look at the cost of a Mac vs a Windows based system. Why pay more for a less functional system? I will admit thought that Macs do usually look a lot nicer than Windows based systems, but I'd rather just stick with Windows and Linux and buy a nice painting for my wall to make up for the difference in the eye candy department.

Totally agree they are all much the muchness now anyway... and all using similar hardware... depends on the software and what you have to do with the what tools you have avialable at the time to get the job do with the best results... whether it is Windows, Linux, or Mac, for a long time I was using BeOS to do most of my multimedia work.
