Roughly how long will the ride be!?

It's my regular route when I need to blow out the cobwebs. Approx 1 hour one way if I'm going hell for leather otherwise prolly add another 1/2 hour to this.

I may be there depending on weather and what I've promised the wife.

jump on the north western, head to the city, get onto the northern and go over the bridge, get off at 'Albany' and turn left. Take note of the road and keep going till you see it. Isn't too hard. If you can score a guide tho, then can't go wrong. Can go the back roads, but that'll just confuse you more! Give yourself about 30 mins to get there

Eh - That seems a very odd way to find Botany Downs, which is out Pakaranga way. I would have said NW Mway , join to Southern, take TeIrangi (sp?) exit ,left down Te Irangi drive and it's on the right ???

Nice Bug,

No wonder you couldn't come this afternoon to get your leathers! :killingme :killingme

Yeah, get on the m/way heading into town, get onto the Southern m/way and get off at Sth Eastern Highway (just before Mt Wellington).

Then follow that until you go over a bridge over the Tamaki esturay (water) and get to a set of lights with a car yard on one corner and a liquor king on the other (Ti Rakau Dr). Then turn right and follow Ti Rakau until you get to Botany Town Centre - easy peasy. Might take you about 40min to get there.

Oh man, why always Sat? I might drop by on the way to church and say hi?

Feint, what about those who need to go into/thru town meet at the PlaceMakers (http://wises.co.nz/map/default.asp?a=find&svctype=1&zoomin=true&move=true) that's on the city turn off, from the northern? That way the shore bikes and west bikes can meet there, then we can cruise over to botany, since we're all going that way anyway?

As I am travelling from Massey happy to tag along with other westies, I am resonably familiar with that area as I work in East Tamaki. Let me know if you want to hook up, and we can sort out a place time etc.

Cheers for organising the ride, have wanted to do the ride out that ways for a while now, and at a slow pace suits me fine.

Cheers for the welcome, wifey gets to look after the kids :) All I have to do is take her out for dinner on Saturday night so it works out ok.

She has been on the bike only once twice, once when I did the Westpac charity ride, and the other when we went for a coffee up in Parakai, she is still a bit nervous about it, but it will grow on her, as i keep telling her :)

Ninjaboy has pointed this out to me. Traffic in that car park will be a nightmare, so the meeting place in Howick has been changed!

Hey it might be better to meet up at the BP on Chapel Rd (next to K-Mart). Its on the correct side of the road to go straight through to the Whitford rd roundabout. Instead of turning right at the lights for the Pak'n'Save carpark, go straight - 2nd set of lights go left.

Just know that the Botany carpark can get mighty busy even that early. If the turn out is anything like last weekend it could be a bit of a logistical nightmare mmoving through the carpark.

Thanks Ninjaboy for that update! :)

Got there and no one was around, carried on to Lyons Rd (Hunua turnoff), waved Zapf/dveus (how cute you two looked together! :Pokey: ), MacD, TS's dad on the Blackbird and Judderbar on, saw Nak1d plus mate cary on to Bombay and waited for another 15mins or so. Rode back to Mangatangi junction and then had to turn around back to town to meet some commitments.

ahhhh.. we went hyperspace and missed you all :bleh:

Nah, when we set off after chups, we turned right (altho it was a straight on, and I went round the corner - you ruined my knee-down-corner!!!!!), then toodled off, the rest of us followed the road round to the right, but you lot went straight on which was another junction. So don't know where you went. But the Mr Skid got a Mr Nail in the tyre, so we stopped up again till that was fixed. Then poodled into Auckland.

Nice one Feint, good ride. Didn't get my knee down at all in my new leathers, mainly cos the road was real damp most of the way round, and I kept getting wheelspin in a few spots, so wasn't overly keen on trying it. Plus I have to stretch them a bit more too yet.. but good first run in them!!

Where did everyone go? I followed the CBR600 and we seemed to be the only people on the road, and I ended up on the motorway

Great ride though. See you guys again sometime.

where the fook did everyone go??

My last conversation was with NinjaBoy, who said he'd wait at the Miranda turn off back onto SH2.

OK got it a bit wrong following JSG. Turned around when the road turned to gravel and then came across Mr Skid who had a puncture. Watched while MadGuitarist demonstrated how to repair a tyre with his puncture kit ( must get one of those). By the time all this was done everyone was well and truly gone.

I said goodbye to who ever was left (Feint, Mr skid, BJ, JSG, MG, Limmy, and some others) and went back home the way we came.

Sorry Skid, I saw you going a little slower but thought you had decided to wait for others. I would of stopped if I had realised you had a puncture. But then nothing I actually could of done. (Dont have puncture repair kit.) :D

ahhhh.. we went hyperspace and missed you all :bleh:

Plus I have to stretch them a bit more too yet.. but good first run in them!!
who was it that was ruining your knee down? Not lil' ol' me running in my bike?!?!

Methinks Mr $kid had sent Mr Nail an exclusive invite to the party with some demo's of rear brake application. "Mr $kids-too-much" mebbe? :Pokey: Didn't yo momma teach you to wipe properly bro?

I wonder if it might be due to powerslides on wet grass, or getting it sideways in the gravel carpark.. (http://misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=1&forumid=3#)

I was keen to go today but had promised eldest son I would go car shopping with him. By the time we finished it was 1 pm, but I hopped on the bike and headed towards Kaiaua on the off-chance I might meet up with you guys coming back. Got to Kaiaua but you had obviously long gone, so headed home. Bit of rain on the way back but otherwise a good ride.

Started with 14 bikes, number grew eventually to over 18.

A great ride, thanks all for coming. Sorry some of you got lost. Actually Bugjuice was at that junction where some of you were suppose to go RIGHT instead of LEFT... I thought it was quite funny. Ninjaboy chasing to tell JSG that he is on the wrong road and another 4 riders following thinking it is the right road...  After realising you are all on the wrong road, I thought you would turned "LEFT" on to the right road, but instead you all travel back the way we came..? So myself and buggy had to chase you guys. By the time we caught up, you all did a u-turn, so we had to do a u-turn. When we caught up, it was with Mr Skid at the roadside. Madguitarist! got out his "roadside mechanic" skills and fixed the puncture.

Nhuan, that is why we never came. We must have been 15 mins behind. Buggy rode up to the junction of SH2 and nobody was there, suprisingly he didn't meet you on the way. There was quite a few of us with Mr Skid (actually half of the group).

A great ride, the weather held up and it was great. Sutage, you doing good, just keep it up and you will be fine. DVEUS, hope everything went well with your puncture.

Hope the rest of you all enjoyed the ride. It was great meeting up with a few new faces. :)

Till the next ride, enjoy the photos and ride safe!

An alternative is to meet by the Regional Botanic Gardens by the Manurewa turn-off (Hill Road - BP nearby), then take Alfriston/Ardmore/Clevedon-Takanini Roads to Clevedon. Then Monument Road through to Hunua, on down to SH2, Mangatawhiri, and on to Miranda/Kaiaua.

Bit less time on SH1, some nice straights through Alfriston and nice windy bits through Hunua (it's also they way I came home on Saturday ;) )

Time for Mr Madguitarist to talk with the wife and bank manager and upgrade. Me thinks Mr Madg can say doctors orders are to buy new toy or he goes into depression and become suicidal. Me also thinks negotiation with wife is to get her a new auto rice cook in exchange for Mr Madg to get a new bike. :Punk:

Yeah what a memory, well done, cept my bike was red not black, my mates name that rode the Red XJR1300 with the 95UPQ plate is Stu (I have encouraged him to get on to the forums), my name is Brent, and Desmodreamer is Nick.

Cheers

Sorry Brent, my bad woops. Your bike is red. Your bike and Stu's bike are very similar except yours has a plastic fairing thing.

Sorry Ninjaboy, your name is "Gah" not Gary. Apologies.

I have been getting a few PM's regarding the pace of the ride. Most people are saying that it is a nice pace. I wouldn't consider the pace of the ride slow, I thought it was more of a medium / slow pace. What did you all think? Just want to know, so that in the future, I will know what to state.

it definitely wasn't slow slow. i felt the speed was a medium pace for me. I wasn't going pushing very hard but yet going at a good pace to have fun. i guess it would have felt a bit slow for guys with the bigger bikes...but for me it was just nice.

Well lets just say that I was riding along at 100 and still had you guys zooming past me.... that is not slow!!

It doesnt actually bother me tho. I like cruising along slow and easy.... I actually like to look around and take in the scenery, etc

The pace was fine for me. I guess that it doesn't really matter how fast or slow, so long that the group has the opportunity to catch up and people are prepared to wait for the slower riders. The stops we had allowed this to happen.

I wonder if trying to define the pace is actually the wrong idea? It seemed to me that the group divided up quite nicely into different pace groups without the competitive edge that you sometimes see on group rides (I admit I wasn't at the front though).

Maybe the term should be "cruise", implying you go at the speed at which you're comfortable?

Good idea, as long as there is enough people in each 'group' ie not 1 slow guy like me and then 15 fast guys, or 1 fast guy and 15 slow guys etc
but for each ride should just split into fast medium slow groups, that way all can go and all can enjoy

Yep! Thanks a lot! Did you also say the chain was loose? I dunno if this is it but when im riding around i can hear a .. 'clanking' sound, as if some bit of metal is hitting another bit, dunno if this is normal but hmm only happens sometimes so i dunno

but yeh the suspension is a lot better :D i noticed it just riding back, even though there werent as many twisties was still noticeable :niceone:

I was the one that said your chain was slack. I was following you for quite a while and that chain looked like it needed some tightening.

You are all right, I will write CRUISE next time. I just don't want the group to split up too much. That will happen if we have fast riders and slow riders. This will also mean more stops (for us to regroup). I usually define the pace and try to stick to that, at least we all get to ride as a GROUP. Well, this isn't a big deal, I was just wondering about the pace thats all. :) :msn-wink: :msn-wink: :D

Feint, "Cruising Speed" is good wording. We dont want to promote fast riding on public roads. If people want to ride fast than they should do so on the race track. We want everyone to come home in one piece. :ride:

This ride was perfect with people riding at their own comfortable pace.
