View Full Version : Had to laugh at TV3's report on licencing issues.

Not the age increase but the proposed power limits to be imposed on inexperienced drivers (ie mostly young new drivers). The idea in itself has some merit, although a piece of shit 1.0l starlet can still do 140km/h+ and kill, but what made me chuckle was the cars TV3 highlighted as targets of the new law. I give you, via TV3, the 'intended vehicles'. Porsche Boxter, Nissan 350Z, and HOnda NSX. Yes yes, there will be the children of the wealthy who may well end up with a Boxter as their first car, but come on, surely it would've been more relavant to list actual cars that these younger drivers are killing themselves in, such as WRX's, Evo's, Silvias etc.
Surely they were doing it as a piss take.

That is why I watch One News.....
It's far from perfect obviously but they always seem to show a fuller version of events, not only what people are wanting to hear.....
For example the story about the 90 year old woman who was tied up at the resthome a while back, 3 News reported that she was tied up and that was all, flicked over to One and they continued with the rest of the information....it was to stretch her leg for blood flow (or somesuch)
Right or wrong at least there was a full explanation rather than pure sensationalism.....I liken it to Fox news, and have boycotted it since the shabby reporting at the protest in the Domain where that retard fell off down lovers lane and focused the whole story on that rather than the prtest, then the above story soon after was the nail in the coffin.
I do however like 3 News' weather better though.
ps. I did'nt see One news at all last night, as far as I know they were just as ludicrous, but they're not usually.

Every cop car can tow a trailer with a dyno on it, then everyone on a learners or restricted licence will have their car dynod at the side of the road to prove the power output. The government doesn't realise that it's very difficult to put a power figure on a car once it's been modified.

When are they going to realise that it's not the car and that it's the driver that crashes? They will figure that out? 15 - 16... you've got to be shitting me... yet another piss poor effort from another government to win votes. "Look, we're doing nothing about it, but we've mentioned it, and we've proposed a solution, so we're looking at it, don't worry, the govt has got it under control". Like the OP mentions, the so-called allowable cars still have the ability to kill... and in some ways at least the "sports" cars have the gubbins to slow you down quicker, go around corners more stabley etc...

No turbos/superchargers (unless deisle), and nothing over 1.6L (2.4 if deisle), pretty easy to check that sutff. There, i've fixed it!

I just want them to realize that no one gets out (of life) alive anyway, and to stop being such a nanny state. Roads to safety strategy (or whatever the fuck its called) is a load of bollocks, someone just decided we need safer roads, haven't really though whether its actually feasible, or even worth the hassle. The only facts to back up their driving age reduction (that I've seen) is that other countries have lower crash rates and lower accident rates, which could just be correlation not causation. Rural parents/kids are gonna get fucked over with this one, and its my opinion that they are the better and lower risk drivers anyway. [/rant]
and in response to the OP, I quite often get the feeling 3 news are taking the piss (or the reporter at least) though it is done quite subtly, good for a laugh every now and then.

A Hayabusa engine in a Honda City would go pretty hard.

and he would still be in a honda city, which is severely lacking in 'pull', if you know what I mean!

I do, but I disagree. There's plenty of 'pull' factor in any Honda.

didn't they also say the car can't be modified?

My mums car has aftermarket tires and wiper blades so it's modified. Oh well, I've got a 1F so I can still drive it.

I went through a lengthy period of having an NSX when I was a teenager. Of course back then it was an abbreviation for NoSeX ... but nevertheless....I had it.
