Octopedes. The plural is octopedes. I hate it when people get that wrong.

I saw a fishing program in the weekend where an octopus was lured out of it's hiding place by waving a metallic watch in the water by it's hidey-hole. It came straight out for the watch and finished up being tea.

In the commentary on that video when the guy said "I pointed the speargun at him" I got a mental image of the octopus sticking all 8 arms/legs in the air and surrendering the camera.

Although it is often supposed that octopi is the 'correct' plural of octopus, and it has been in use for longer than the usual Anglicized plural octopuses, it in fact originates as an error. Octopus is not a simple Latin word of the second declension, but a Latinized form of the Greek word oktopous, and its 'correct' plural would logically be octopodes.

WTF? Diving with his gun for some Kai Moana & he doe's not shoot the Occy. Taste just like crayfish when you smack them round & barbecue them, lovely marinaded raw with lime & chilli too. That bit of vid made me salivate. Maybe he was going to shoot Paua.

I loved the fact that it was able to be distracted, just like a kid or a puppy, by having something else dangled in front of it. With all those arms I'd have thought it could take off with both the camera and the speargun. Hahahaha (although o-pussies do give me the creeps big time)

They are an amazingly intelligent animal! So are Squid for that matter, but the intelligence of the Octopus is really something!

I do a bit of spear fishing & a couple of times have found Occys hiding in wee caves. If your gentle, they will come out & wrap their tentacles around your hand & wrist so you can stroke them, just like a cat. Waves of colour flash through their skin when they relax. A wonderful experience & guaranteed to keep them off my dinner plate. I can't kill a new friend.
