View Full Version : Getting air

A long time ago, before speeding was BAD and in a land far away, I would sometimes detour on my way home from work and find my special twisty road. This road was special because it had 2 humps on it that even my shitty Kawasaki Z250 could get proper 2 wheeled air on. 3 humps on it my slightly less shitty FZ400 could get air on (even 2's up) and 1 of these humps on it that my mate's mini cooper could get air on (fuckin students eh?).
What roads are still around New Zealand where you can get air under both your tyres at less than 100kmph? And when I say 'air' I mean at least 2 seconds and a landing that may or may not bottom out your rear shock and blow your fork seals :innocent:

Wot, air for 2 seconds in the CBD? Where.....and surely in the CBD you'd have to be doing 50ish. ??

there's an intersection by my house where if you are going in the right lane in the right direction you get mean air. you cant even see it until its too late.
me and my mate used to do jumps on it at like 80 to 100 when the light went green. his footpeg broke off on one landing lol. we even made a suzuki and a hummer scrape.
but that was like 1 second cause it was fast, still awesome.

Sounds good. What I'm after is a proper hump (ooerr). One that catapults the bike into the air supercross style.....even at say 60 kays. There must be one.

You wont be getting 2 seconds air mate.... Check out this clip, this is what 3 seconds air looks like....

Intersection of Takutai Ave and Sea Spray Dr.
The nubs put a humped roundabout there to "slow" traffic down - it can give you some sweet hangtime if you do it right.
Though needless to say, wheelies jumps are neither big nor cool.

Pokuru Road south of Te Awamutu, used to be good for a bit of air over the railway bridge. Maybe just a tad over 100km though!

There is a road in Belfast, Christchurch going over the railway tracks that it would be possible to get air off. I don't have the balls/stupidity to get both wheels off the ground on purpose.

there are a few roads in blenheim, speed dependent. one on old renwick road, heading to renwick the cordia would get well in the air, and a few roads that run between rapaura road and old renwick road. especially the one that has a big hump, land on the 1 way bridge, through the S bend near knees down, and over the second hump leading onto a loooong straight. and NEVER seen a cop on that road. not that I would do that shit now. people been killed getting air on those jumps since I used to do it when I was younger. some awesome memories though

Pretty fun easy jump over the railway tracks coming from New North Rd,
if you dont have jump exp, landing is on incline, blip the throttle a bit to land square and not on the forks.
