"The officer has activated his blue and red emergency lights and sirens and begun a turning manoeuvre to follow the offending vehicle as a motorcycle came over the brow of a hill and collided with the turning patrol car."

U turning on a brow of hill?

Isn't that taught in policing 101??? :2guns:
That is really dumb shit.

Sadly, I guess it'll add to the number of motorcycle statistics - again, due by other people.

Terrible news. condolences to friends and family.

Going to court myself defending a charge that started with a cops attempted executing of a U turn in front of me.
They seem to be blinkered by the potential revenue gathering than the saftey of other road users.

RIP to a fallen rider.
He died doing what he loved, to which some people spend a whole lifetime never discovering what they love, that brings them such happiness to their hearts.
I hope his family can take some comfort in this sudden tradgic loss, my sincerest condolences.
No investigation needed, I'm surprised the cops haven't learned to change this blind spot u turn manouver, after the multiple fatality bike crash last year, from the same situation.

The saddest part about it is that it could have been anyone of us.

He was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Life ended by the unrelated actions of others.

Condolences.

If the guy going the other way had been allowed to continue at his speed, no one would have been killed.

Thats real sad to hear! I often think how much more dangerous it is when cops have to chase someone down thats going a bit fast, they have to do double the speed to catch them.

Anyone know any details on the funeral?

WHAT A WASTE ..... theres no sense in his passing like this - for someone with HIS bike control to be taken in this manner, proves just how fragile and fleeting life on our roads is. Deepest sympathies to his family and many on and off-track friends

I only just found out it was Paul, watching the news. I've been on track days with him and he was a damn fine rider. A good bloke, too. I just can't believe he has been killed like this. I was angry when I read the story this morning - the cops are just too keen to get into a chase and don't seem to care about the consequences. It'll just be the usual arse covering operation.

When I found out it was Paul I just felt sick. My heart goes out to his family. What a terrible waste.

Biggles08
19th April 2010, 18:30
Just saw the report on the news and I'm sorry for saying this in this thread but I'm fucking angry! That cop that did the U-turn in the spot they showed on the news should be locked up for manslaughter! Regardless if Paul was speeding or not no cop should EVER had done a u-turn there! Mad?!...what a waste of life! Paul...you were robbed of your life and I am truly sorry for you family! RIP and my thoughts go to Paul's family to have to deal with this situation... Justice needs to be done.

My intro to Paul was when Rich and I were selling a kwaka 600. He came here to check it all out and see if it was a good buy for a younger mate who was trying to get going. He traveled with a crew alot. It was sorta a Pied Piper thing. Alot of people dont take me serious with Rich and the pillion riding. Paul was always smiling at me and exclaiming how "keen" I was especially for a chick. But he forgot I was a chick most of the time and I was just a mate who rode with him alot on and off track. We rode to Wanganui together for the races this past boxing day. Had a hotel and alot of laughs. Strange things happen whenever he was around as if he had a mischief vortex. I called him Tinkerbell for his sprightly handling of his motorbike. He defied gravity it seemed. We did alot of riding that was a bit extreme and tho we talked death at times, we didnt dwell. You cant dwell or you cant ride. He was about to go in for long awaited surgery for his back, and we had all met up at the Coroglen. Our little gang. It had been awhile since we could all get there due to work or weather or well..life. But we all made it. We laughed. We had a feed. Paul told funny stories and horrible jokes. You could see he was preapring for the surgery. He had quit smoking even. I watched him walk across the street to talk to his long time girlfriend Sarah on the phone. I thought he looked sorta like he was just coming to grips with alot of things. I saw growth. He had his younger guys just coming up in the biker world as his pupils and he spoke with passion on our responsibilities as the "older" bikers to help the young to be safe but as fast as they dared. We all geared up, and began the return trip. Rich and I thought he was just out of our view but he had turned to go home. John waved to us from the side road and we joined him there. We still thought he was in front of us cause he was ALWAYS in front of us unless he was helping us with something. We got to Whangamata and I found out he had went home. I didnt mind but I thought, I didnt hug him this time. We always hugged good bye because we know first hand, it can be the last time at any time. We got the call shortly after we got home. He was NOT drinking. He was not acting crazy. He was going home to see his mates who had grocery shopped for him. And this...this... this supposed servant of the people and paid to enforce the LAW has decided he is above law and safety and that wanker on tv saying this cop had done this manuver thousands of times and it was ok is going to get a size 7 up his leather faced ass if I ever meet him. NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO PLAY GOD. Double yellow lines are always in effect are they not? We are gutted. Crying. Sick with grief.... Paul... Paul... We will get him Paul. One way or another. We will get him.

Very sad.

I didn't know him that well, but on the odd occasion that I could keep up I had some great times on track. Awesome style, plenty of backing it in. Scary to think that a man of his skills can even come across a situation on the road that he can't avoid.

RIP, Paul

RIP Paul. Very sad.
I raced against Paul a few times when he was on Carl Jacksons 955 Ducati at Puke. Even though mine was the faster bike I could not keep up with him except once in the drizzle, briefly.
He said they only had slicks and I said " me to, but don't worry, there's buggar all diff between them and treads when the tracks just greasy ".
So when it did start to drizzle Paul and the front guys slowed up and I shot past him down the front straight into Jennians on the white flag lap. My smile didn't last long because he obviously decided the slicks did have a bit of grip after all when he passed me going over the hill on a now wet track down to the flag.
I just shook my head and marvelled at his skill, bravery and determination.

Deepest condolances to Pauls family and friends.

Let us also not lose sight of the fact that whilst the cop did an extremely stupid manouver, he is going to suffer an awful lot in many ways probably for the rest of his life. He's also going to deserve to get punished and I hope he does but he's also now a victim and his moment of madness will cost not only him but many close to him as well.

I knew Paul through his younger brother Caleb from when I lived in T.K. We had some awesome nights on the piss, one of them involving shifting the dining room table and hinm doing douhnuts on the wooden floor. Took weeks to get the rubber smell out of the house! Another time we thought half way through a bottle of bourbon we thought the best thing to do would be to hide each others bike keys so neither of us could drive. We found his 10 months later in the bottom of the wood shed. Couldn't remember throwing them in there and we had to brake the barrel and hot wire his bike. Hell of a guy and I'll miss him a lot.

Does anyone out there know Caleb's cell number. Been 5-6 years since I've seen him, and would like his number. Please PM me if you have it.

Thought's with all of Paul's family and friends. Esp Caleb and Sarah.

The Ride
On the beast of power I do mount,
How fast I can corner does count,
Like a pack of wolves in the hunt,
The alpha leads from the front,
It is the spirit of the wild in us all,
Just don’t take a fall,
Instant speed in my hand,
I am part of a unique hunting band,
Cans of courage do help the cause,
Hear the grinding of your jaws,
Alive and awake your feel,
This is something truly real,
The force of wind against my simple mass,
As I accelerate hitting the gas,
On a silver horse I do ride,
With adrenal bursts of supreme pride,
Maybe fearless and stupid, for others who see,
Sitting in their boring comforting cage gaping at me,
Past like a bullet from the gun,
Just as I hit the mighty tonne,
Helmet, leathers and boots to go,
I am a warrior you know,
The destination I must make is part of the thrill,
It is like taking a magic pill,
Ride with me in the great race just above the ground,
Where wild spirits are to be found,
Back on mother earth it was a hell of a ride,
If I wasn’t scared I would have lied.

RIP Brother Biker
