Hi..

Going to Wellington on a wh-visa on the 7th of may. Hoping to stay 12-15 months working all over the place, combining jobs in all corners with trips on the bike.
Will have to take my licence once in the country and off course acquiring a decent bike.

I know this question I pretty hard to answer from a computer but here we go:
Im 170cm, 70kg quite experienced rider, not afraid to work on the bike myself.
Been looking at the Suzuki GSX/GT as well as the GN.
The GN seems like a good option for reliability but man, is it not ugly?
Saw a Kawasaki triple on trademe the other day that made my mouth water, any probs in maintaining such a machine?
What other bikes should I consider?
Could spend something like $1000-$1500 wofed&regged.

Thanks for a great forum and any tips about riding in NZ!

Hi Mate, welcome.

You can ride in NZ on a foreign license for up to 12 months. If you have to get an NZ license from scratch you will be restricted to a 250.

For $1000 - $1500 you will not get a good, reliable, ready to tour, road legal bike 250cc or above unless you get lucky. Budget another $500 at least with anything in that price range as it will probably need chain, sprockets, brake pads, wheel bearings etc.

Cheers
Clint

Thanks for answers, always nice to feel welcome.
Will be in contact when I reach wellington. It would be great with a few riding buddies or just someone who can give general tips on the city.
Anyone going to shows during the comedy festival?
