I recommend that you don't fuck around with it too much. Hook up a set of heated grips and a radar detector mount so you don't end up having to walk home. The engines on these bikes are very highly tuned from standard, so any money you spend on performance upgrades will yield little performance increase. You're better off learning to ride better than to spend money on the bike so do a good service on the bike, put in new brake pads etc and saving your cash for a big bike once you get your 6F.

yeah i've come to that realisation as well, do you know where i can buy that mount from? and i agree i'm investing in some motorbike training courses to help me get a hang of it better. are you gonna go to the ride tomorrow?

I'm not sure where the best place to get a radar detector mount is, what ride are you talking about? I can hook you up with a good radar detector at a reasonable price if you're keen.

I've got a mate who's just lost his licence so he's selling his radar detector to pay off his fines.

It's a Beltronics, I'm not too sure of the model. It's in a good condition and he wants $350 for it. As for the ride tomorrow, I might be keen for a quick ride but I've got somewhere to be tomorrow afternoon.

Yeah it's meant to be pissing down with rain tomorrow and I have to go all the way out to my mates place out in the country side, last time I went out there in the rain my back wheel started to slide out from underneath me at 80kmh. It was good fun. If you get the cash let me know and I can hook you up with that radar detector. I think he said it's an RX65 or something like that. All I know is that it picks up the baconmobiles from well over 1km away.

And mate i'm jobless and living off student allowance so thats probably not gonna be anytime soon haha

i bought my one for $3200 and it's done 22000km but i spent another grand on tyres and brake pads and forkseals and just doing a full service for it, but i reckon i still got it pretty cheap

13th May 2010, 12:10
ahh cool. 3200 seems like a good price, could you tell personally if it had been thrashed or anything, or before buying it did you get it checked by a mechanic??

Hurrie
13th May 2010, 13:48
well i took it to my mechanic and he told me that it needed all that stuff, and there was also a fair bit of rust on it and i could tell that it had been dropped at some stage since the right engine side cover looked like it had been repainted with the wrong kind of paint so it was peeling off, when you go check out your bike just have a good look at the engine side covers if they are visible and also look for scrapes on the foot pegs or exhaust that could indicate it being dropped. also if you're gonna buy an oldish bike have a look in the petrol tank and see if you can spot any rust in it just cause this can be a pain to get rid of later, i've had that problem with both the bikes i've owned but it was worse with my old cbr to the point that rust would block up the fuel filter and would make the whole bike just turn off while riding it. so keep an eye out for that. also it would pay to put the rego number through car jam and check its mileage history since in some cases the odometer can click over the 100000 mark and just read all zero's (as if its brand new).

I brought My MC19 about a month ago and it stung me $4,500 and it only had 4,282Km's on the clock, all ligit it was imported two years ago with 2,300 k's on it and came with the original Odo paper work to prove so, the guy through in a new battery and service and had only had new tyres 3 months prior the thing still looks like its brand new for an '89 you could pass it off as an '00 bike if you wernt awear of the differences, that was through trademe, awesome fella to deal with too he even through in some free Astar gloves and a full print out of the work book manual

Since these bikes were JDM, many of them had their odometers wound back in Japan prior to importation into NZ.

Yeah I dont think I have seen the paintwork similar to my bike on many other CBR's , Its a wonderful little bike, it has a hole in the muffler at the moment so im working on the funds for that haha.

is the whole by any chance at the bottom of the muffler near the welding? cause if it is, its not a fault its how its designed so that the moisture doesnt build up. i've had 2 cbr's and they've both had the same hole in the same spot.

yah shouldnt be to bad, im gonna home job it to save some cash, im going to get a muffler to suit a MC22 which bolt on and all I need to do is make a flange and get it rejetted and retimed which I cant do, becouse im clueless when it comes to motors, but once thats done im in the clear, at the moment its managable, sounds a bit grunter becouse of the mini grandcanyon going on, but it should still pass a warrent.

Im actualy in the process of sculpting a mould for a one off custom tail for my CBR, I only work 3 and a half days a week, so that leaves me 3 and a half days of nothing, so i figured, its low cost till it coems to fiber glassing, but im thinking about completly removing the pillion seat, rounding the top of the tail so its not square and flat, installing an intergrated tail light and new rear blinkers, and i was thinking about making my own tail tidy kit built onto the new tail section, unfortanitly, the mounts on the rear subframe are underneith the pillion seat so im thinking about using those pins you see on some race car bonets, so you pull the pins and it just lifts out, and just making a removable pannel in the tail, that way I still have small stoarage as well as an acsess panel for the mounts. Im also considering making a one off front mud guard as well, something small.

Woo thats alot of typing.
