Simple question I would have thought, but it might surprise you.

83 for the Gamma we know and love. Why would that be surprising?

The 500 was 85, as was the GSXR750, and they're no more modern...

1985

I think it was only the Japanese-domestic model of the X7 was called the RG-250 back in the late '70s.

Pretty sure it was the first alloy framed mass produced bike, and the first JDM RG250 was released late 83.

That it was. Now which bike was the first to be sold in the UK with upsidedown forks? (should be the same for here)

I would say the ZXR400 in 88-89.

Didn't the J/D RG250WD have twin front discs but the export model had a single front disc?

Close, but it wasn't sold new in the UK.

If not the 400 then it would have been the 750.

Are we talking mass production? If not its the Harris in 75.
Dunno about mass production. If I were to make a poke I would guess its 1991 GSXR

onearmedbandit

Well you may be right, but Superbike magazine claim it was actually the RGV250L late in '89, followed by the GSXR750 and 1100L in 1990 along with the Aprilia AF1 125. No mention of the ZXR. Chances are they got it wrong.

Were any H1's sold brand new into the UK?

errrr I swear no new RGV's were sold into UK until the mid 90's?

Yes I should have qualified it a little better, mass-produced and sportsbike. But seeing as nudemetalz provided some doubt to my source I decided to end the competition. The prize of a years trip following the motogp with all access passes and expenses has now been withdrawn.

Like I said there may now be doubt to the quality of my source. (Superbike Magazine Feb 2010 Pg 84)

RGVs didn't get USDs till 1991 (VJ22)

UK models (http://rgv250.co.uk/models.htm)
Jap models (http://rgv250.co.uk/japmodels.htm)

But if you told me that the VJ22 was released as a JDM in 1990 I'd believe it.

1985 would be first wave of KTMs fitted with USDs. Well what? you asked.

oh bugger....was looking forward to that too !!
I still have a feeling that the ZXR400's were brought in new into UK...but I could be wrong.

Some interesting stuff, why has it stopped? Who can tell me the displacement of the rear cylinder on an MVX250? Including the bore and stroke comparisons.

USD forks? I think some of you are suffering from a bit of memory loss.

Behold your new god, the 1979 Yamaha YB100.

With USD forks... front and rear.

I thought all 3 were the same slightly undersquare 47mmx48mm making an 83cc per pot

That would depend on how many times it seized and was rebored

Fail. The rear shocks are the right way up.

And so are the front, the uppers are just covers, there are tubes under them in conventional manner.

However. . . , now I think of it the Honda Nifty 50 scooters did have USDs
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Spree

but they were 1985 too, so my original answer stands.

I forgot to the add the bit about 'mass produced sportsbike' until post #18.

I prefer to think that the engineers just got bored and slapped on a miniature pair of the front forks.

Hence there are USD front forks on the back.

More than the rear cylinder of a LE Velocette.....but that didn't have a spark plug

Oh my god, I'm sorry!

I just realised that I accidentally posted the picture the wrong way round.

Here is the actual photo.

As you can see the YB100's suspension is indeed of the upside down variety. I hope this clears up any confusion I caused.
