Who can make me a new clutch cable on the city side. I know Rodger dose it really well on the north shore, and there is one outfit in otahuhu or somewhere, but i want my cable repaired today, and i want it done close to me. Im talking CBD, newmarket, western springs, pt chev.
Someone must be able to do such a simple job? I have the broken cable, but missing the main fitting for the lever (it broke off) and the outer is fine.
Suggestions?
as a last resort, are there good DIY kits? I've done the speedo cables DIY and they worked really well.

Get a drill, some solder, and an oven. Go nuts.
Or go to any bike shop. If the mechanic can't make a simple clutch cable, then he's a pretty piss poor mechanic.
/edit: One thing though, don't expect him to drop everything to do it there and then, and expect a bill for 20-30 minutes of his time at his regular rate, plus parts.

I would question whether its actually economic to make or often repair cables anymore, unless its something rare or very highly priced. If a typical charge our rate is $70 to $80 per hour and it takes half an hour to make a cable theres up to $40 straight away plus parts. And its never going to be as good as a original cable, in 90% or more of instances.

I used to make all my own cables back in the day. Cos it was cheaper. Then I stopped, because by the time I bought the gubbins it was almost as cheap to buy a new cable. Then cables started getting up around $100+ :shit:. So I started making them again.

I used to make my own too...still have some inner and outer somewhere, and still do if I find some carbs I'd like to try,or some apehangers that look cool. But these days genuine is the way to go.Making cables is like setting points,so seldom done these days it's a skill young mechanics haven't put in the time to learn.....and the old ones have to relearn,on your cable.

takes 10mins to do, and it cost me $40 all up, way way cheaper than a new one (although would u be able to get a new one for a 1988 bike?)
and how on earth could it be not as good lol its a freeking cable!

10 mins to make a complete cable, what shower did you come down in? And theres no way they are as good as an oem Japanese cable.
