View Full Version : Personal plates on bikes

Yeah, vanity plates as known elsewhere, personal plates etc.
Anyone got them on their bike, and any really good ones, or funny ones on here.
I've always thought they are a cop or *555 magnet.
Obviously if you're a good boy or girl no worries, and if you're not, you're going so fast no one can catch a read of it eh:shit:
But everyone's different and like different things.
Never thought I'd be into one.............but I ordered one yesterday.
Fit of madness, old age, who knows.........a good way to throw 600 in the toilet etc etc blah, blah, blah.
Reckon it suits my Trumpy. Will post a pic of it on the bike when it arrives in the mail in a week.
Last time I thought of one for my Duc it was rejected as being offensive.

True, but a lot of bikes I see now have their plates on an angle, or deliberate tilt so its hard to see anyway.
I tried to see if I could recall plates a while back out of interest as I saw a lot of bikes coming up on me when I was in the ute. By the time they flashed past, it was pretty hard to tell or recall the digits..

Bastards did that a few years back .... any plate of 6 digits on a bike at the time couldnt be changed but from that point on only 5 digit plates allowed on bikes
Apparently it's a database issue at LTSA...bikes with 6 plate digits fuck the system coz they show as cars LMFAO (wonder how many ACC crash stats that was screwing up...77$ and all???)

The 1000 SS is sweet mate.
All sorted, been stripped and gone over, few cosmetic/colour changes. 1 piece rear tail housing in white/red. Power Commander on and tuned. Love it. Not as fast as a Jappa, but handles well and is light.
It's a keeper for me.
When I originally enquired about WOG SS the bloke had to take it to his superiors, who rejected it as racist and offensive, then I got some emails over the following week saying that they were considering it. Then after more time they said I could have it but it would cost 800!!!!! but I had to confirm it quick in case someone above changed his mind.

Apparantely if someone finds a plate offensive they can complain to whoever and it can be removed from you, reading all the small print.
Just playing around with offensive names and combos I can think of, and untold available, but when you submit them, they obviously run them past a censor dude first if in doubt, so I guess the chances of a nasty one getting thru is low.

When I bought the SV two years ago I looked at a plate - which was available. Then I looked at the price. And decided I didn't want it any more.
Couple days later some chickie from P Plates rings up and sez "I see you were looking at a plate. Is there anything I can do to help you buy it?"
I sed "Yeah. Take half the price off it!"
She wouldn't bloody do it...fucking cow...

When they first came out I bought mine the first week: MY HOG. I was soo happy... Had it on the bike for a short while. Then realised how gay it was and took it off and stashed it. Many years later found it when I was doing some tidying up and sold it for $500.
I wanted a old black/white plate on a old Trumphy I had. I found one, checked it up and it was available, so I registered it as a personalised plate, fitted the old b/w one to the bike and was happy.

See, I always thought this was a real tight ass thing to do. A 3 letter, 3 number combo is heaps cheaper then "full" personalised. I always thought people brought beemers to show off their money. Then they skimp on the plate? You wouldn't get an Audi driver doing that.

Originally custom plates of 6 digits COULD be placed on bikes, but it was a few years after they intoroduced custom plates the issue in the database was discovered where bikes showed as cars if a 6 digit plate was assigned
Been 5 digits only since then.

"Oh that's different, you want Assassin on your plate"
I couldn't stop laughing and after I looked at the spelling, I realised that's how people are goiing to read it...so no "SahSin" plate for me.
My new bikes name is "Green Envy" So I want to try and see if "GRNNV" is available or maybe just "NV" I dunno, still in the thought stages.

Ah, now this is a good point. But you have to remember:
"the manufacturing of the registration plate is in fact, a very small contributor to the overall cost of a personalised plate. There are database costs, administration costs, pissing in the governments pockets costs, buying the CEO a new car every 6 months cost"
This would be the official line...well maybe edited a bit.

But you can have TUTAE - which I understand means SHIT in Maori. Seen it on more than one plate (with a number at the end) so how did that slip through?
Can't have my initial/name on a plate (not that I'd want to) as apparently FKING is rude...

Seen EIEIO down here.
Yep, it's owned by a farmer named McDonald....
Well I paid my fee and an email came today telling me how to get my plate.
$599 later, online, fill in a form, licence details, etc etc, it gets sent to me in about a week or so, plate, new rego sticker. Stick it on and go.
No going to post shops and changing things over etc.
So thats a plus.
Best I sort out my rego plate holder, cos you know on these new bikes those godanged ugly stalk thingies that hang down 3 feet off your rear guard with all the reflectors.......well I kinda got to it with a hacksaw on Sat morn, so it needs a bit of attention.

When I enquired it said 599, so I emailed away and the bloke came back and said it was 799.
I then said that it told me 599, I'm not interested at 799..........he replied..........oops yep, my mistake, sorry.........it is 599, and thats where it ended.
Whether its a letter/word combo that bumps it up??
What I got is 3 letters, 2 numbers.........when I enquired again at the same time for my Ducati for 'WOG SS' the price came back as 799. Could be the space in between, or all letters, I really dont know.

Best I sort out my rego plate holder, cos you know on these new bikes those godanged ugly stalk thingies that hang down 3 feet off your rear guard with all the reflectors.......well I kinda got to it with a hacksaw on Sat morn, so it needs a bit of attention.
Get some 3M adhesive spray and spray the back of the plate and stick the label to it ;)
All perfectly legal too...

Im just not a fan of regular bike plates.
When I first enquired I was going to get 0DBT (No Debt) but that had gone when I went to purchase.

I always fancied either COPUL8 or FORNIK8 but they say 'cannot be released for sale'. Still, can't afford it anyway.

Hehe I reserved the one I want on my super duke....watch this space (gotta find another 700$)
Put my plate on Friday, only took 3 days to make and get.
Must admit I behaved myself, (as always, and never exceeded 100kph!) when passing cars on Sat, bit easier to remember the plate eh.
