View Full Version : How do you read the negative reputation stats?
p.dath

Under Site Stuff/Forum Stats you can look at the positive and negative reputation stats. Here are the top negative reputation stats.
1. 343/14239 DangerousBastard
2. 295/13482 skidMark
3. 246/25798 renegade master
4. 243/61776 Katman
What are the two numbers? Number of negative posts/total reputation? Can't quite seem to guess what the two numbers means.
Virago
1st May 2010, 09:08
The first number is total neg reps received. The second is reputation point level.
If you want to see who has the lowest rep, go the Member List --> Reputation --> Reverse Order.
First time DB has been best at something. Must be all that International action.

So although Katman has had 100 (or so) less negative reputation posts as compared to DB, those people who have given Katman negative reputation must have been "respectable" to have given out so much more negative reputation per post. Correct?
Katman has an average of 254 negative rep per post, while DB sits at 41 per post.

Nope - you're still reading it wrong - the two figures are not directly connected. The second figure is their total rep points, not the value of neg rep received.
The Katman example show that while he has received lots of red, he's also received a shit-load of green.

So looking at that - it seems that very few people ever green bling DB. Pfft go figure.

That's fascinating. I didn't know it was possible for someone to have so much neg rep!!!!

1. 343/14239 DangerousBastard thats impressive. More than Skid Mark mind you hes probably band. Still it`s only 1 neg to every 41.5 positive, by the way i enjoy your comments and those of others on that list, there lots of positive rep. Like the new avatar also.

Another thing, there is a recent thread where I got 15+ green blings - but when I saw my 'top rep posts' (or whatever it's called) I see no mention of this thread but a lot of other threads where I only got 5 or so 'blings'
How does that work?
Does 'bling' on rant or rave etc not count to your top rep posts or something?
Again another KB mystery...

so what is blue?
Blue is reputation given (either red or green) by someone that does not have enough posts and or positive reputation themselves to have any weight to their rep.

No, no, no. As I said above, the two figures are not related. 343 is the total number of red reps. 14239 is his rep point "score", not the total number of reps received.
Good point! How much do you need to get banned?
I prefer to dish out the green. It's like a KB hug.
People aren't banned on the basis of rep, it's a completely meaningless statistic which is easily manipulated for positive or negative.
And yes, most people dish out mainly green, to posts that they feel deserve it.
green = good
red = bad
yellow = infraction
so what is blue?
Infractions are separate from the rep system.
If you get a blue / grey rep, it is from a newbie with no rep themselves, and therefore has zero point value.
Wow, somebody with just over 600 posts total has waaay more green bling/post ratio than me

One of the mysteries of the (KB) world this reputation thing!
The rep system gives a major insight into human nature.
Indeed, many of those high on the rep ladder have low post counts. They are invariably part of "rep rings", groups of individuals who work together on a daily basis to boost each other's rep. Effectively they stand in circles, giving each other a "rep reach-around".
They will invariably deny the existence of such rings, but the individual rep stats and the associated rep comments speak for themselves.
What exactly they think they're awarding themselves is a mystery - it's a bit like giving each other Monopoly money from the box, and convincing themselves that they're "winning the game". It's all rather childish really.
The downside of such silliness is that many of those who collect rep with such avarice, will use their rep power to bully others with red rep. Many of those at the top of the red rep ladder have been put there by co-ordinated bullying by the rep rings.
Human nature, eh?
here, here... I'm with you on that one - in more ways than one
I rest my case...
I think some of the time at least the rep system is used more to give a private comment on a post rather than the whole positive negative thing. 'Tis faster than a pm
cc rider
2nd May 2010, 14:36

So just for clarity's sake.... is this how it works?...
When you are given a green rep. point the value of that rep. point depends on the reputation of the person who gave it to you. This value is added to your total reputation 'amount'. When you are given a red rep point, the value is likewise related to the reputation of the person who has so generously gifted it to you. This value is taken off of your total reputation value. When a total newbie or someone with a very low reputation total gives you a rep. point (green or red) it is represented by a blue/grey rep. marker - which has no (or little?) value. Your total reputation score is based on the value of all green points minus all red points.
Does post count contribute to the value of your rep. points?
Is there anyway to tell who gave you a rep. point?
The only red rep. I have ever given to someone was because they made a really offensive remark. Somehow they knew it was me and gave me a red rep. back on a totally unrelated post with the comment 'fuck you too'. Since they have been on KB longer, they have a higher rep. count, so their red rep. takes more from my total than mine does from theirs? Seems a weird way of doing things. Anyway, I've put them on ignore now so I'm blissful ignorant of their vehement rantings.
Is there a guide to this reputation system that I missed somewhere in the KB documentation?

Is there anyway to tell who gave you a rep. point?
When you have enough posts you can see who gave you the bling. Some people giving bling to someone with not many posts put their name in the comment.
I will always say my name (Maha or Mark) if I know the recipient wont be able to tell. Pays to be nice about things eh?
Except red, they can just get fucked.
So just for clarity's sake.... is this how it works?...
You are right on the money.
So-called senior members can see who awarded rep. 'Senior' does not suggest they are mature, however. As evidenced by several earlier posters...

Got this from the link that Virago gave...
The amount you give varies depending on three factors.
1. the amount of rep you have. For every +100 rep, add 1 to your Rep Weight.
2. the amount of time you have been a member. For every year you have been a member, add 1 to your Rep Weight.
3. the amount of posts you have. For every 500 posts you have made, add 1 rep to your Rep Weight.
Probably just easier to send someone bling and see how much they get though (eg. Headbanger)
