I have about an 01 RM125 that needs some love, anyone recommend a good / cheap (if that word and 2 stroke can be in the same sentence?!) repairer of said steed

Thanks in advance

Unfortunately Zephyr there is very few south islanders in the off road section but a few off the race or adventure boys might know of someone??
Good luck!

Try talking to Dirt Action Services.
They will give you an honest opinion on likely costs etc.
The owner is a long time rider of 2strokes.

DAS 2nd'd.

cheaper if you take engine out of course, but talk to them with preference.

Hey cheers, wow what a nice intro - I joined a cycling forum a while back (mtb not lycra lol) and it seemed like a year of hazing before any good info - thanks again for the welcome / info straight off the bat!

:

2 strokes are supposed to be cheap, and something like an RM125 is not complicated enough to get expensive. What needs doing? Pistons and powervalves are not hard to do,bigends are a specialist job....but hammers and punches, and a lathe with centres can get the job done for rough bastards.

NO no! don't take the engine out of a 2stroke until you have the barrel off and feel the big end! If it doesn't need doing fitting a piston, pin, little end bearing and decoking the power valve can be easily done in the bike once the tank is off! Taking the whole engine out of an MX bike is a pain in the ass! LOL!!!

So the pipe is off, the carb is off, unplug the stator & it's 3 bolts, ok often the Sw, but it's good to check that anyway. Sounds pretty easy to me, but the point was either you take him the whole bike or the engine if you aren't confident stripping the engine down.

Yeah,I'm sure Zephyrheaven knows all about being given half a job,and being held responsable for the fuck up on what he didn't have control of.

Blimey!!!

Anyone want an RM125 project LOL, been quoted about $1900 to rebuild the motor

Hmmm

Kinda more than I wanted to spend on a toy that will get used once a month

Bugger

Can you follow instructions? buy a manual and do it yourself, it isn't really that hard to do a two stroke single
