Barkbusters

Hi

I've been looking at bark busters for the CR, are the 'Barkbusters' brand alloy ones any good, or any suggestions about what to buy? I was thinking just to get metal ones, not fussed about how pretty they look.

Brands don't really matter as long as the mounting hardware is decent.

I've had barksbusters ones, they're good at what they do, except mine always fell off. Doesn't seem to matter who put them on either. I lost an entire one in the mud on the Saturday at Desert Storm (didn't notice, too busy focusing on the quad trying to take me out). Annoying since they're expensive, but they're useful to have. And now I've got pro taper fat bars I'll have to buy another set...Don't know if I can be bothered. If you can manage to not lose them they're good for saving broken levers.

having ridden for nearly 20 years, and never had bark busters. ive never broken a lever. so allthough they might save levers, breaking levers isnt that common anyway from my experience. none of the guys i ride with carry spare levers, and none of us ever break levers

same ive only broken one lever and that was when my bike fell over in the garage while i was at work lol, im not a huge fan of bark busters, especially on the ktm's as they can swivel upwards and break the clutch master cylinders

I've broken heaps of levers when not using bark busters. But I am quite a munter sooo.

Theres a guy johnyballistix on tardme selling some knockoff ones which def wont break the bank (look similar to acerbis). If the mounts break you could always get a decent set off Djebbe Bruin (WMMC)

I used to be the same as booom (I used to think they belonged on farmbikes) but i like them now. You don't have to worry about scrub or branches suddenly jamming brake on etc. You can barge this stuff a bit easier. Another thing I really like is they tend keep your grips a lot cleaner if you have a muddy tip-over. Major drawback for me is extra weight on a weight sensitive place. Mine are all plastic but still full wrap around.

Ive got 11 bikes That get ridden By novices mainly, They all have hand guards, the performance bikes all have Protaper bars and barkbusters and I have never had a broken a lever in 5 years . the entry level bikes have the generic acerbis look alike brand for about $65.00 They are shit-They bend EVERY time the bike hits the ground, they break mounting brackets the inserts come loose, the threads strip and the plastic braeks and drops off- but they still save levers....

Read Dangers post last page - re safety and Ktm boys input re mounting to help prevent broken wrists.

i dont like them, but the def. have their place. certainly wish i put them on for the no way in hell, hit my hand on a tree and broke my hand. if i had barkbusters i would have been sweet. now ill run them on forest rides, but nothing else.

I find they make the bike handle differently. Heavier steering, but you forget about that 5min later

barkbusters are a good brand, never had any probs with them, mine look like they have taken a beating (came with bike)
just beware of getting your arm stuck in them in a crash

I got some from a TM dealer called pit werkx... think they were about $100. They saved my hands at the jolly rooster twice last w/end as I managed to find trees close to the track... probably says more about me than the bark busters but hey, I reckon that's $100 bucks well spent. They have a solid alloy bar with a plastic cover... I ride an XR so weight doesn't bother me!

Go with the Cycra's. Alot of top US XC racers use them, very solid guards.

I got some from scott, I like them. THey have saved my hands from a serious injury twice now.
